Note that I as well as Phil's other "soreheaded detractors" are, in fact, reacting to what he posts about RU in his inimatable backhanded-comment manner (or as he says, just having fun with you guys).

Well, lets just say that we're just having fun with Phil as well.

Regarding the offer of some kleenex for me, please send it.  I get choked up at times reading the empathetic posts of support from Phil's admirers.

Phil

Time to move on, brother!  Check your thesaurus and come up with something cute to lay on the Willy P faithful ... and, if the Lions stumble, you can tell Willy P that they have a myopic view of DIII and TCNJ is academically superior.  Also, don't flatter yourself, you don't frustrate me, you amuse me!

As the Valley Girls say, "Whateverrrrrrrrrr".  Stop it, you're forcing me to use some of my Kleenex from Warren.

RU:

Let us know when your Kleenex runs low ... we'll send another case or two.  :)

Stalker,

You are correct about Sam Mills being honored this Sat vs Kean. This should have been done at the opening game vs Iona, and Sprague field should have been re-named Sam Mills Field. I'm sure past President Sprague would not mind, since the library is also named after him. Sometimes I just can't figure out Montclair State. ???

Let's see if we can erase the ill effects of Cortland, kick some Cougar Butt, and start a five game winning streak. Ya gotta believe.

Let's  Go  Mighty  Red  Hawks  !!!!!!!!!
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

Dave
If Montclair is to honor Sam Mills I think the 6PM game on Saturday is as good as time as any to do it. Most people in the area who attend high school games are done for the day, any students which are still on campus might attend (though I wouldn't hold my breath), it's Homecoming ... and then there are the coaching connections between the two schools.

If you go to Montclair's web site and read the full story they seem to have quite a nice halftime ceremony planned. I might even stop by after the WPU / TCNJ game.

But I agree Dave, if any NJAC stadium needs to be named after a former player it's Sprague Field – which I will refer to from now on as Sam Mills Stadium.

RUfan
...if there's anything I remember from the past season it's your need to have the final word – so have at it.

We'll at least there's something going on in this room.  I am starting to get into the Phil vs. RU Fan "War of Words"

If I can swing it. I might have to stop by for the Mills tribute.

just keep your words simple so everyone on this board can understand.... ;D

Senor RedTackle

is that Rowan or the NJ State Pen team?

if you wish to respond...catch me in the LL room

dpadavona

Whatever.

Maybe RPI should schedule Rowan and find out for themselves?  It might be fun to play a decent out of conference team, besides titanic struggles with Endicott and Utica.

Yea...Kean, Cortland St, and TCNJ have really torn it up nationally the last few years. And Robert Morris??...sure, RPI used to play a dive 1 school too...Siena. Crushed em every year.

Hey..I'm not knocking Rowan. They are the Atlanta Braves of D3...great record every year with alot of talent but never win it all. How many of Rowan's opponents have more NCAA appearances since 2000 than RPI?..any of them? I honestly don't know.

Anyway, all I'm saying is that if a school is going to be a football factory, at least they should win the title more with that kind of talent (ala Mt. Union)...because Rowan isn't exactly an academic factory compared to RPI. Different expectations...

RPI has made the NCAA's twice since 2000....not really what you call  tearing it up nationally.  Rowan has Montclair St and Brockport on their schedule and those teams have made it to the NCAA's three times and four times (respectively) since 2000.

dpadavona

It's not fair to lump Rowan in with the Braves/Bills.  Basically you need to do that for all of Eastern Region.  As I remember you guys failed to get the job done with the Jonnies, and Union failed with their attempts.  Eastern Region the last decade+ has simply sucked in comparison to the Mt Unions, Linfields, and Jonnies.

RPI putting Rowan down for getting to the big dance and failing is kinda like the NY Mets ripping on the Atlanta Braves for being a laughing stock.   ;D

So when are one of you dudes going to start up rpifootball.com?  We could use a few more good independent sites.

Senor RedTackle

twice since 2000? Try 3 times...See, this is why I ASK about stuff I'm sure on rather than look like a mope by not knowing the facts.

..and go back and look at RPI's 3 appearances in the dance. The first was a loss to a Rowan team that ended up losing to Pac Lutheran in the finals. Prior to that loss, no one had played Rowan as close as RPI in the in the playoffs. In fact, if you really do some homework, the game was closer than the score because of RPI giving away crappy turnovers that were turned into points.

The next appearance was a disappointing loss at home to a strong Ithaca team.

The 3rd attempt saw RPI take down #1 in the East Springfield at their place as well as Ithaca before losing to St.John's (after being tied 10-10 at the half)

My point is that none of Rowan's opponents are, in my view, that much more accomplished at the national level than RPI.

Montclair, Brockport State, and Christopher Newport off-hand.

The problem with sticking to NCAA playoff teams is only 1 in 8 or 9 make the playoffs to begin with.  How many can you reasonably hope to schedule.

It's better in my opinion to look at "losable games."  Rowan has to play competitive games against Montclair, Brockport State, Christopher Newport, Cortland, TCNJ, and Robert Morris.  Western Conn is decent most years too.

RPI really only has 2 "losable games" all season long - Union and Hobart.  That's it, two tests.  And no the fact that you lost to Utica last season doesn't count in your favor.    ;)

Also I know from past experience that RPI, for its incredible academics, has the ugliest female student body on God's green earth.  What's up wit dat???  I really feel for you dudes.  At least you have that nurses school nearby to visit.

Senor RedTackle

Ok...you have me by the short hairs on that one. I can argue football opponents, academic programs, the field, the tailgates, even the city of Troy....but I cannot, in good conscience, defend the caliber of women (or lack thereof) that RPI seems to attract. I speak mostly from my own time their in the early 90s....and it hasn't gotten any better for me professionally since I work in IT and not in retail or at a coffee shop.

However, RPI does seem to be making some decent strides...for example, the cheerleaders are actually passable..

http://cheerleaders.union.rpi.edu/

..some even worthy of the Flying Camel

'gro

all right, before anyone goes apesh!!t one of RPI's playoff appearances was in '99... whoops. 3 times ain't bad though, and they have gotten better with each appearance.

RPI girls suck, there's no argument there. But there are another 5-6 schools in the area and if you have half the game of a 6th grader you'll be alright on the weekends.

Rowan is a school for cretins, bug squashers, and criminals.
