Dave and 'Hawk -

I'll be shooting on the sidelines as always.  Dave knows who I am...I'm the short guy who always forgets to wear sunscreen.  Say hello.  I usually shoot backlit into the sun from the visitor's sideline.

Bolanos is/was a beast!!! We have a big MSU Football Alumni Beefsteak once a year, that whole crew shows up and are still as big and nuts hahah, all really good guys though.

It really is going to be a great game though, I do believe that MSU can pull it off; The Red Hawks defense is awesome!!!!! I am not sure about Cortland's O, but from what I have seen this year, MSU has the potential to be a very explosive offense with a very solid O'Line, playmakers in WR and the TE position, Bliss is very explosive at his first step and gets up field immediately.

If my memory serves me correctly, Cortland does a very good job at utilizing our team defensive speed against us. It's no secret we are a blitz heavy team and Cortland does a good at the cut-back, all types of screens, draws and are able to pick out the db who is on an "island" when we blitz. I think if we can minimize those big plays that they have successfully completed against us, we will win.

I am sure Coach O'Conner, Coach Giancola, Coach Agresta, Coach Pacifico, Coach Cappelo, and mad dog Coach Cierrie hahah have a great game plan and have got these boys ready to go up to Cortland ready for a 12 rounder. It could turn out to be a game of field position with the difference maker being special teams, we have a very good place kicker and punter.

Dave are you headed up??

Big game for us on Saturday..its going to be our biggest test so far this year. We have to stay focused and keep to our game plan. Line needs to blast off the ball and get our ground game jump started early. Than we can open up our air assault.

Going to eat, pack a bag and get on the bus...one game at a time.  Ready for War !!

I can't recall the year, but Cortland won down at Montclair.  The game was not that bad score wise but Coach G of Montclair ran after Coach Mac and started screaming about trying to run the score up.  If I recall, it was only a 21 point game going into the closing seconds.  I thought it was tackier for Montclair to burn several TO's to hang one in the end zone on the final play of the game making it a 14 point game.  The game was over and many guys were subbed through.  Does anyone remember that game?  By the way....Did Montclair rename the field a few years ago for Sam Mills?  I thought it was Sprague Field?  or was it Sam Mills Field at Sprague Stadium?

We have all just decided to call it Sam Mills Field.  Unless MSU did change the name and didn't tell anyone.

Hahaha I didn't realize it until you said it, I guess we do have a lot of Pizan's over at MSU lol....I played in that game, all I remember is all week our coaches talking to us about how scramble rules were in effect, what happens JJ Tutwiler went back and forth sideline to sideline like three times and I believe found that big Italian TE wide open in the back of the end zone....
I think we had this debate a few years ago and I got blasted by everyone, obviously I am biased bc I love my college and Coach G is like a second father to me. There are a few plays that stand out; one was when we were driving, had a big completion and one of the best WR to come through our program got flagged for  taunting the other team after he gave the first down sign. I also believe you guys converged on a very big 4th and 1.

Anyways, we were out of timeouts inside of two minutes, the game was over you were up by two scores. Cortland called a timeout to try and set up for a field goal, I including the rest of my team and G thought he was trying to rub it in our face. There are a number of different ways you could have handled it your coach decided that was the way to go.  Knowing G in that situation he would have ran the ball twice and turned it over on downs. If I remember correctly they spoke after the game and everything was settled. As for the score at the end of the game your team didn't really make an attempt to tackle our wr, he caught the ball and they just kind of let him tippy toe down the sideline.

Last year when we had the same discussion, someone said something about getting as many points as you can and G is a baby. My argument was, in football the kick is still considered to be the most dangerous play of the game. I do believe there is some type of statistic about your chances of winning if you block a kick. The very next day something similar happened in the NFL; inside two mins up by ten they called a timeout to kick a field goal. It gets block and seven points the other way, anyways I am really excited about tomorrow. I hope these boys have read some of these posts so they can see a little of the history between the two programs.

Let's get this thing going boys!!!! Red Hawksssssss

Semantics...

I also remember complaining on this board about Montclair running up the score against TCNJ while up by about 30+ in the fourth quarter. Thought it was a valid complaint as Montclair continued to pass the ball late in the game — only to be told that the Lions continued to fill the box to stop the run — thus Montclair HAD to pass.

Coach G went buckwild on IC after we went up by 14... in a PLAYOFF game. The guy could probably yell even louder if he'd get the baby bottle out of his mouth. In my experiences covering football, baseball, and wrestling, MSU's coaches are the biggest crybabys on the east coast, and it breeds dirtier play than even Cortland. A little guy named Brian Young's career ended against MSU...

XReddragon77, the game you are talking about was 2002 when we kicked a late field goal in a close game to put the game out of reach...Coach G did not run after Coach Mac.  Final score was 20-16 as MSU scored a TD as time ran out....

XDragon59

Redhawk,

That 2002 game wasn't an attempt to run up the score, it was the best decision to make at that point to put the game out of reach, wasn't like we threw a TD pass.  Our program was built on recognizable class.  The play that bothers me most from our battles was 2001 when we hit your punt returner to cause a fumble and score a TD and they called the halo rule on our defender, might have been a different outcome!  We should have a great game tomorrow and I want the Dragons to of course win, but I hope we have some classic moments to keep the rivalry going!

RE: cortland being dirty

-Wouldn't necessarily call them dirty but they are far from angels.  I only played against them once in the 2003 ECAC game but they were very undisciplined.  Could be the ECAC let down syndrome or the fact that we were up 40-17 at one point but they were getting flagged for multiple personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.  Including one of my favorite moments where a Cortland guy ran out of bounds on the SJF side and then threw the ball into the seats.  Why he did i have no idea, but it was funnier than hell...

Upstate -

We did have one player back then who was prone to doing stupid things like that.  I think I know who you are talking about, and he is one of the few Red Dragons I don't miss post graduation.  I don't think that was the only game he reacted like that in '03.

Dan,

The player you are referring to was a player who did alot for the program, he was an emotional player and I can't comment about the specific incident because I was graduated by then but he worked hard and the older players took him under our wing in previous seasons.  I think in all honesty the Cortland haters are grasping at straws trying to find incidents of when a Cortland player acted in a classless manner.

Besides  the Cortland- Montclair game.....is anybody amped up for the Oklahoma/Texas game?...  or the Florida -LSU matchup?  Sadly I will be watching poor ole' Army get its teeth kicked in by Central Michigan, or was it Eastern Michigan.   Whatever ???

I was a frosh in 01 and remember that play, I thought it was a good call but agree to disagree. You guys aren't talking about a WR by any chance are you?? He threw the ball into the stands I don't remember his name but he never shut his mouth always had something to say before during and after each play. I think he was number 24 used to hit you in the back while running back to the huddle and never got caught. The kid was a stud though.
