Two 7-1 squads getting after it next week in Montclair.  Should be an interesting game.  Cortland's win didn't seem to convincing against a solid program who is having a tough year.  I figured it would have been a bit more comfortable.

Doesn't matter if it's by an inch or a quarter mile, winning is winning.

TCNJ up on Cortland 12-7 at the half. At QB for the Lions, Picatagi is 14-15 for 108 yards and a TD.

Picatagi was awesome.  He played perfect - no mistakes.  I won't say he is the better quarterback for TCNJ at this point, just that he is equally effective.  It's a much different look.  He runs the option well, scrambles, and has a pretty good arm.  I was very impressed with his poise under pressure.

I am sure they didn't phone it in, but it had to have been a disappointment for Cortland to play RPI in the ECAC game that year after getting snubbed by the NCAA in 2006.  One loss, in OT at conference champion Rowan late in the season led to the ECAC game.  Now credit RPI for getting the victory, but don't forget the Dragons were down to their third-string QB with Smith and Miles out, and I believe they were banged up and missing starters at several other key positions as well.

Actually it was the fourth string QB.  Remember we went down to #4 in the Cortaca Jug game (Smith and Miles were #1 and #2), and he was a freshman.

I forgot about that QB situation.  Didn't the third QB start the Ithaca game?  He did a solid job that game from what I remember.

Close.  We started a senior at QB for Cortaca (he was third string).  He got hurt on the second or third drive I think, so the fourth string freshman came off the bench.  He did play a solid game against IC.  All I can think is he was so caught up in the moment that he was able to make it through.  Reality set in real quick against RPI.

Well it was their running back that had the biggest pass of that game!

But yea, their QB's did the job and the coaching staff did a good job playing conservative enough to do the best with what they had.

Thats right Dan, I forgot about that, that was the kid that ironically beat IC twice in one season, earlier that year he was the qb in a JV victory over them.  Quite an interesting story that was.

Got dogged looking for Cortaca tickets.  I sat refreshing the site untill it sales came online (12:00pm).  By the time it popped up for me, the allotment was sold out.

Cortland has the pool A bid locked up.  A perfect season should make them a #1 seed (MUC/Muhlenberg import is possible)  So... can they do what it takes the next 2 weeks: beat brockport without looking ahead to Cortaca, then beat Ithaca?  Unique situation for the dragons.

Not an easy task.   A former Dragon transfered to Port in the late 90's.  When we eventually played, after the game he told us that Port guys went into the Cortland game with the same mentality that we took to Ithaca.  It was their rivalry but to us they were the cruddy green team.  We changed our attitude with them in '00 when they started their hot streak.  Hope we get them Saturday as they have been a thorn in our side for a while!

Difficult for sure, but Coach Mac is great at getting his teams to focus on the moment.  I don't think intensity will be a problem, practices are always intense and focused and we even used to do a hitting drill in camp that had game like ferocity.  Cortland players are simply too competitive to not be fired up for 'Port, who we look at as a top rival, and the IC game with a packed house and all the old alums from both schools back and the hype on both campuses and towns speaks for itself.

Congrats to Cortland.  This team could be really, really good but...with the exception of Willy P, I don't think that you will find a team that doesn't feel that they should have beaten Cortland.  Yet we are 8-0. We have found ways to win...a mark of a good team.  If we want to be competetive at a national level, we have to get more consistent.  We have much work to do.

Hey JT -

You've been awfully quiet lately.

What's your take on the big Rowan-Montclair game?
