For what it's worth, I think the NJAC had the stronger champion and the MAC a deeper conference from top-to-bottom.

Well, I'd say that the selection committee knew of what they speak by failing to invite an NJAC at large representative. It would seem that the once mighty conference has dropped a few pegs by looking at their representatives to the ECAC games and how they got whooped up on by their MAC opponents. I was looking for a very competitive game between DVC and Kean, but the Aggies just ran rough-shod over Kean and their potent NJAC offense was non-existent for the entire first half, and only showed flashes in the second half. When you looked at their size vs DelVal one would have expected them to run with success all day long, but that was not the case as the Aggies defense shut down their feature back.

Funny how this argument turned out, isn't it?  The MAC champion got soundly beaten in round 1 by Hobart.  Meanwhile the NJAC champion is headed to Alliance, Ohio.

Well, yeah, but the NJAC champion advanced to Alliance after playing 2 NEFC teams.  Easiest road to Alliance of any "east" team.  Period.

Cortland's true colors (as are all teams') will be on display vs. MUC.  I am very interested to see if this CState team is the real deal (ie, they just had one of those off days in the Cortaca game kind of like Hobart vs. Union, then the Statesmen rebounding to win out - until MUC).

Unfortunately, all signs point to Cortland (given their difficulties in the secondary/pass D vs. one of the most efficient passing QBs ever) losing by about the same score as Hobart did.

Don't forget that one of those NEFC teams beat the E8 champion.  Cortland has a great rush defense!  I imagine they will start strong but eventually will wear down.   I do not know much about Hobart's defense or the team outside opf the fact that they find ways to win (your NCAA win over us consisted of 75 yards of offense, and a 85 yd TD from a fake punt coming from your 15 yd line).  From scores posted it looks like Cortland plays stronger on the offensive side of the ball...but I also think that will provide little this week.  As you 'Bart guys wanted, so do we.  A respectable game.  Go Dragons!

Best of luck to you, and that's the attitude I would have going into a game like this.  Safe travels if you're planning on coming to Alliance this weekend.
They should have practiced harder.

thanks Raiderfan....with all due respect to your outstanding program...we are coming to spank the purple drank just like we did last weekend.  Hobart can be happy being respectable...that's not our goal.

Cortland.....hmmm.......and you are in the NEW JERSEY Athletic Conference, but in upstate NY?  How did that happen?  Seriously....inquiring Ohioans who have no clue about Cortland State would like to know.

And did the "Red Dragons" used to be the "Red Men", and change their name due to PC-ness?

Skunks,

The football playing schools in the SUNYAC (State University of New York)  Conference -- Buffalo State, Morrisville State, Brockport State, and Cortland State -- do not have enough members to form a legitimate football conference, therefore they all (eventually) became affiliate members in the NJAC for football.

No the Red Dragons nickname goes back at least a century.  They haven't PC'ed their nickname like other NY schools like Syracuse, St. John's and Siena.

Respectable?  Did the Gmen say that before they kicked the living hell out of the Pats last year in the super bowl?

Safe travels to all the Red Dragon faithful this weekend.  I have been trading hats/t-shirts with parents/fans for the past couple of years and would love to add a Red Dragon to my collection.  Anyone interested in a trade for something Purple Raider themed?

At this point my collection includes items from Bridgewater, UWW, Christopher Newport, Hampton Sydney, Heidelberg,...

I'd love to make a trade this weekend--and meet some of the Cortland faithful before, after, or during the game.  Contact me via email or PM if you are interested.

Good luck to all--and here's to an injury free game for both teams.

Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

Skunks,
Cortland used to be an independant and played many of the NJAC schools to fill its schedule.  We had a tough time getting other NY schools to play us besides IC.  When the E8 formed, we joined the NJAC out of convenience of a Pool A bid as the E8 wanted similar minded schools.  Cortland did not fit the bill as a State School in a private league.  Since the bulk of our schedule was already NJAC teams, they took us in.  Brockport, Buffalo, and Morrisville State followed as well as the E8 and LL were of a different kind of school.  Seems like petty politics but thats what happened.

The NJAC only had six full members that offered football when Cortland agreed to join, then Western Conn entered the conf and then NJCU eliminated their football program.  NJAC has five full time members that play football, Rowan, MSU, TCNJ, Kean and William Paterson.  The conference also has five affiliate members for football, Cortland, West Conn, Buff State, Brockport and SUNY Morrisville.  This is done to ensure the AQ for the conf and member teams.

Those mamby-pamby E-8 schools!  Figures......and people wonder why the EAST teams are so disrespected?   ;)
