Agrre with Gordon...... Cortland proving to be a worthy champion. Give 'em hell and shock the world!!! Would also agree that the MAC had a more competitive conference than the NJAC this season. I do bleed green ans gold but still believe that Del Val was playing better than anyone in the MAC at the end of the season and may have been a better match for Hobart. They stumbled in the middle of the season and it cost them dearly.... oh well, some day I will get over it!!!

Cortland.....hmmm.......and you are in the NEW JERSEY Athletic Conference, but in upstate NY?  How did that happen?  Seriously....inquiring Ohioans who have no clue about Cortland State would like to know.

And did the "Red Dragons" used to be the "Red Men", and change their name due to PC-ness?

No the Red Dragons nickname goes back at least a century.  They haven't PC'ed their nickname like other NY schools like Syracuse, St. John's and Siena.

The Syracuse change was the most ludicrous of them all.  Please point me toward the Orange Men who were victimized and offended by their name?

My senior year at Siena in 1988 was the last year they were Indians (to honor the Mohawk Indians). I was disappointed when they dropped the nickname, but I guess I understand why. There were some elements that weren't politically correct, such as having a student dressed up as an Indian mascot running around like a madman at games.

I don't think it was offensive to any tribes or anything.  I think it was some of the women's athletic teams that had the beef.  Doesn't matter anyway as most fans (including myself)  still refer to them a sthe Orangemen.

On a football note, what are your thoughts on the game Dan?

I would say it is St. Johns that is the worst case of political correctness run wild.  The term Redmen is derived from the color of the jerseys worn in the early years of the program.  It had absolutely nothing to do with Indians Native Americans.

I must be living under a rock!  What did the 'Cuse change their mascot to?  They just the "ORANGE" now, or something different?

Boy....I hate all the PC stuff.  I understand about diversity and sensitivity and all that but geez...we all just need thicker skin and not take every comment so personally.  Now if you want to point to someone who hasn't changed....look to Fla. St.  Seminoles and their famed Tomohawk Chop.  Perhaps Seminoles isn't bad and can, in fact be seen as an honor to a specific tribe but the action of the chop is not PC.

XREDDRAGON77

How about the Bombers of Ithaca.  I once heard that they were going to drop the Bomber tag in favor of a Seagull.  How lame....and I hope that was a false rumor.  Nothing is better than having a 4 Billion dollar warplane as your school's mascot.

Actually I heard it was a logo of a barn swallow.  Not really but I just like the idea of saying "Ithaca swallows"......sorry,  I really do have respect for our neighbors.

ORANGEMEN! Bye Mr. Robinson and don't let the door hit your ^%$ on the way out!

While we're discussing the PC crap, what about the Widener "Pride"?  Please, please, tell me how a Pioneer is offensive to ANYONE!
Who gets to judge what is offensive anyway? What if a family of lions at the Philadelphia Zoo doesn't like the nickname....

At FDU, we used to be the "Jersey Devils", but I guess we offended too many NJ Pinelands Satan worshipers. Now, we're just the Devils  ;)

The PC trend has certainly run a muck.  It no longer allows us straight shooters to call a spade...a spade.  Everyone's a heart in our new society.

Ridiculous, and wasn't the Jersey Devil like the Loch Ness monster in that state?  Like an official  state folk legend.
