As for the lot who are fussing about who is and is not qualified to comment about the kicking game, let's talk a bit here.

I believe it clearly states in at least one place on this website that these boards are for everyone in D3 football- fans, players, parents, and the like. If the intention was to create a board for ex-players, I'm sure the staff would have done so. In my case, I spent my four undergraduate football seasons as the video coordinator at Wilkes- those years included two NCAA trips and the 2006 MAC title, and I was there for all of it and more. On the practice fields, in the locker rooms, on the bus for the away games, in the meeting rooms, at the after parties...you name it, I was there. So if any of you think I (or anyone else on here) don't meet your credibility standards, I'd love to hear your reasoning.

With that said, I really am laughing at your notion about coming down on the freshman kicker-good for him when he made the kick with the game on the line. We all know extra points should be automatic, but like everything else in the game, it dosen't always work that way. In my senior year we lost two games to NJAC teams- 21-20 to WPU and 14-13 to Rowan- directly because of missed PATs. We then picked up our first win on the year when the Lebanon Valley kicker shanked a game-winning, chip-shot FG off the left upright with seconds left in regulation. I'm sure all three kickers involved in those plays would love one more shot, but that's the nature of the beast- we're talking about college kids here and not the NFL.

So if any of you bleacher QBs want to critique your team's kicking game, go right ahead. But in the real world, in the first game of the season, PATs get missed and the like. Cheers everyone ;)

My thing wasn't thaat I was necessarily criticizing the kicker, I was just saying how they might not kick the field goal because he had missed two Extra Points.

dlip believes that at this level of football extra points should be made period. If there is a kicker who struggles with making extra points then the following should be applicable: 1.) he should be criticized by fans, coaches alike (of course not on a personal level but regarding his performance or lack there of)
2.) he should most likely be replaced by someone who can make extra points or his team will certainly struggle
When you play a game at this level (we are not talking about T-Ball here) and your performance is not up to par, then fans and coaches should be able to criticize that performance as long as it is in an appropriate way. dlip does not condone personal attacks on student athletes in any way, shape, or form. pg.04 did nothing of the sort. If you are a kicker missing ****in extra points at this level well then you better be prepared to recieve some criticism or get out of the game.

dlippiel

What makes dlip an expert on this? He was a T-Ball All-American for the Shocktown Horsecollars in 84-85 and then again in 86-87. In 85-86 he was out with a torn ACL.

Don't you hate it when you get hurt tripping over the batting tee plate? ;D

Any comments on my below post on the MAC Board this morning to the Wilkes fan from any of the Montclair Faithful? See you at Ralston Field this Saturday.

In the NJAC Pick-Em's I had the Mules as -3.5 and took the Mules Straight and Wilkes with the Spread. I always said that Wilkes is a well coached team and always in the game. Wilkes wining did not surprise me, but I thought the Mules would win. Congratulations on a great start. I'll be out at Ralston Field on Saturday. A little tailgate and as usual an exciting game. I think our "D" will be fine. Decent receivers, decent running game and the jury is out on our Soph QB. Saturday will be the test. IMHO this game could define the Montclair Season as to the teams Character.

rams1102,

I'm not sure if you're giving me a well-intentioned shout out or a little backtalk- I'll go with the former for good measure. My comment on the Muhlenberg game was just some good-natured fun after a great upset win over a very good Mules squad. I can completelty understand many people picking Muhlenberg, and if I were in an objective situation, it would be hard to argue the pick. If you think I was being cocky or arrogent or anything of that nature, I wasen't, so we will indeed see you at Ralston on Saturday. MSU has always brought a great group of fans who know how to tailgate, so let's have some fun and we'll see what happens-lots of players and fans from the Garden State on either side of this one :)

Please do not take any offense. There was none ment.  :) I was just trying to get some of the Montclair fans awoken. I guess it did not work. :( I will be at Ralston tailgating with my daughter. Works out well, after the game we will visit my Mom in Nanticoke then back to Jersey on Sunday. I'll have the "Red" grill. Stop by, say HI and get something to eat.
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

dlippiel,

Thanks -- If we only had people that ever played college football being able to talk football, then -- well then no one would know anything about D3 football because none of these sites would exist!

That's what I thought- just thought it best to cover all the bases :) Let me know where you'll be and I'll be more than happy to say Hi. As for waking up the fans, I'm sure they will be involved later in the week- MSU always brings out a great crowd both on gameday and on the boards. Cheers ;)

I'll be at the end of the parking lot for an easier access to the stadium if possible. I set the line for the NJAC Pick-E'm with Montclair (-3.5). Your thoughts?

I finally have a new design for http://www.rowanfootball.com/dev.  I'm turning it into a blog.  Found a free wordpress newspaper template and modified it.

The old site is seven years old... very tired looking, manually intensive, and with JT's schedule, hard to keep updated.  Now programming improvement/updates are free and future templates are free or low cost. Plus people are always designing new widgets.

Also it will be more interactive since people can comment.  Will link to the old site and convert old data over time.

What do you guys think?

TCNJ up 47-24 on Buffalo St. with 2:00 left.

Does anyone have some insight on Buff State. I know they lost this weekend to a good TCNJ team, but I am just trying to see what they have? Any information would be appreciated.

Don't count on any info from this board. It's pretty quiet. Maybe clandfan may have a little info or maybe pgo4. :-[

Sorry guys.  I don't have any info on buff st. other than what boyes, himself, said in the njac teleconference.  He's a great coach but been away for awhile and doesn't have much to work with right now apparently.  If he stays long, you can bet buff st. will, once again, become a force to deal with.

mwafb

At the TCNJ/Buff State game.  Buff state was simply terrible.  TCNJ's offense can compete but their defense is horrible.  I am surprised that no one has gotten on Hamilton's case for bringing in his son as Def coordinator.  The guy is clueless!!  This is a classic case of nepotism that should have been stopped by the AD.  Unfortunately the guy is a stooge!  Last year kids were quitting and yelling at him to just coach!  He has no clue, the problem is the head coach is trying to set his kid up to be the head coach, unfortunately the only job that the kid has had is a manager of a liquor store after taking 10 years to get his degree.  The best thing that the old man could have done is set him up as a GA in another program to learn something.  After the 2007 playoff season Hamilton got rid of the two coordinators for no reason - I heard that he told Alercio that he would die before he allowed him to be the head coach at TCNJ.  Those two hadn't gotten along in years.  Not sure what his problem with the DC was, but got rid of him as well.  That defense was nationally ranked (top ten) the previous two years.  Unfortunately that program will be only mediocre as long as Hamilton remains the head coach.   Too bad for the kids.

phil

So Alercio suffered silently under the tyranny of Hamilton for the last 15 years as the first and only full-time assistant coach in TCNJ history – only to stick it to the coach by becoming the head coach of Castleton State. Methinks to become head coach out of 150 applicants, one would have to receive a glowing review from the former head of the football program as well as the athletic director.

As far as other people moving on and Hamilton Jr. assuming a key role ... you might want to investigate what the effect of the NJ budget cuts have done to higher education – and the trickle down effect to athletics. By gosh, do you realize some athletic programs have actually cut sports in other parts of the country – or were you waiting for Pete Carroll to come to TCNJ for 50K per year and a beer named after him at Triumph brewpub?

QuoteUnfortunately that program will be only mediocre as long as Hamilton remains the head coach.

Quite a comment since the guy was the Eastern Region and NJAC coach of the year a couple years ago – and is widely known to get the most out of a program that has to manage with the most difficult college entrance requirements in the NJAC.

...always love a first time poster with a grudge and little to no info to back it up. No question TCNJ's defense is not where it needs to be, but give us a little more than baseless accusations. If you want to single out an under performing defense that embarrassed itself – take a look up the road in New Brunswick!

mwafb

Phil - you are wrong on everything that you have posted.  Alercio wanted to stay because of his family and the only reason he went to Castleton was when Hamilton told him that there was no way that he would ever let him be the head coach.  The DC is still at the college as a professor and was a former NFL player and was greatly respected by the players and staff.  Money had nothing to do with him not staying part of the program.  Hamilton got rid of him to allow his son to take over.  Regarding the rave review the one way that you get rid of someone is to say what a great guy he is so you can get someone to take him off your hands - that is exactly what happened.

The NJ budget cuts had nothing to do with what has happened to the TCNJ program.  Speak to coaches around the league about what has happened.  You are clearly passionate about TCNJ - that's nice but your facts are 180 degrees from the truth.  I was part of that program during this time period and know the information from inside.  Not from the stands or from a post.  I just wanted people to realize what is happening.  Its become clear to me that there is no accountability for what happens.  I find that sad.  Last year 10 players quit that could have helped that program succeed and repeat as Champs.  I suggest that you examine this without the rose-colored glasses.  If you love the program, then demand accountability from those that run it.
