12-10 Cortland.  Sounded like the Dragons were in the Red Zone like 3 times with no scores.  I hope we can hold on against Jersey and Brockport so we will have 7 W's heading into the Jug game!

Couldn't make the game today. Lots to do at home and the weather made it a no go.

I'll take the win against TCNJ. Giancola and O'Conner better get their you know what in gear cause our "O" is terrible. ::) What is going on. Yes I know the weather was probable horrible, but total yards 362 - 169 in favor of TCNJ tells me only one thing. God bless our "D". In (2) weeks we face Rowan and Kean and God help us then. Let's see if we can come away with a big win next week. I'm sure Fisher will make NJAC player of the week and then fold in the last (2) games. P L E A S E  prove me wrong. I'm yearning to go to a NCAA playoff game.
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

Can I start the annual bitching about availability of Cortaca tix?  There will be no doubt that a bunch of drunk students who don't know our starting QB's name will be scooping up tickets in hops of re-selling them to people who actually like the teams for $30.  The next two weeks are going to be a pain in the ass.

Couldn't agree more...I hope you were able to get into that alumni ticket lottery, I hope with demand down this year from the Cortland side we are all able to get tickets that way.

Kean's Offfense & Defense look sharp 2day despite the opponent's awful record. Morrisville keep playing hard all afternoon they just lack the type of players needed to compete in the NJAC. Kean had their 2nd team in by the middle of the 3rd quarter & their 3rd team in by the 2nd drive of the 4th quarter. They even tried to just run the ball to not run up the score unnecessarily. If they kept in their 1st unit & kept passing the game score would have been a lot worst!
Next up ROWAN PROFS[/b]

Game vs Willy P was ugly to say the least but will take the win for sure. Neither team showed any offense.  Willy P scored on their first offensive play on a bomb down the right sideline and Cortland scored on a pass out of the wildcat down the middle to a wide open reciever.  Alex Smith was tossing some really weak passes, many that were just floating waiting to be picked.  Not a lot of zip on the ball but maybe it was weather related as it was raining on and off.

Officiating was terrible.  Lots of late flags and really bad calls but that happened both ways so at least they were consistent.

My last complaint (You'd think CState lost!) is about the play calling for CState.  Seems to be all over the place but maybe that's why I sit in the stands!  Today I would have run the ball like there was no tomorrow.  This team needs to establish a running game in order to get some confidence on the offensive side of the ball.

Cortland had 366 yds of offense (138 rushing and 228 Passing)  I wouldn't exactly call that no offense.  Game played in the pouring rain all day.  I will give  you that the majority of that yardage came on 4 plays but for those four plays the play calling was great and it was enough to win with another great effort from our defense.

I think we knew that the offense was going to struggle as soon as we lost Pitcher.  I'll be honest and say I didn't think we would get 5 wins after that. now it looks like we could get seven.  I give the offense and the coaches credit for putting together game plans and personnel packages that keep us competetive.  On the other hand, I didn't understand the 2 point attempt at 12-10 or the 4th and 1 slant that was thrown incomplete.  Aside from that...5-2.  It was enough.  I think all our wins will be ugly.

Well said.  Guess I was a bit cranky after sitting in the rain.  But even after drying off and my second, ok fourth scotch, still think the play calling is off.  The defense is without a doubt keeping the team in the games.  They are playing outstanding football.  So I pour my fifth and raise my glass to ugly wins.

I'll say you should take the win and run! Out-gained by more than a 2-1 margin with TCNJ missing a 28 yard chip shot to tie the game in the last minute... makes me wonder what the Lions might have been able to do in good weather.

Cortland has been a team with no offensive identity for several seasons.  Yes they may have rung the numbers up the past few seasons.....but if you sat and actually watched, they are all over the place.  Last years IC game was an embarassment from an offensive perspective.  They are balanced in the pass/run ratio, but seem to call plays out of series which does not set the next play up.  Last time I think they were sequential was during the Tutweiller years when they were a split back, option oriented attack!  The mid 90's we were nasty on offense when were ran from the multiple "I", but thats 12 years ago and we had the horses to maul people.

I disagree to a point.  I think the game has changed.  It's more wide open with these spread and west coast offenses and zone blocking and teams, as a whole,  are much faster than the mid 90's.  You read and go.  I think "Sequences" as you call them are predictable.  That's what sequences are...your smart coaches know what is coming next.  That being said, I still think down and situation should still be the driving force and will agree that certain calls have not made sense in this regard.  example: going for two up 12-10 on a rain soaked day that has a good chance of coming down to a field goal. (and almost did).

This particular year they have done well with a young offensive line and a patchwork offense due to injury.  I think they made a key personnel change two games ago and we see it in the run game.  Who has ever agreed with 100% of the play calling? That's why they made Sunday and Monday mornings!   I'm impressed with what they have been able to accomplish under some adversity.

I agree about the IC embarassment but c'mon...it was an 11-1 season!  NCAA quarterfinals.  It was a bad game in an otherwise remarkable season.

I know I have been accused of being a big Pitcher backer on here and one of my disappointments this year is not being able to see him play more than he did but I think those who saw him, got a taste of his poise and leadership on the field with quick decision making.  I don't think we have seen that since Tutweiler.  Miles had skills but IMO wasn't as strong a leader or quick decision maker and that was exposed in the IC game.  He had more skilled people around him.  If everything would have played out as planned, I don't think we would look like we were all over the place.

I am curious on other takes on the wildcat.  My take is that CState goes to it before the team has had a chance to develop any offensive rhythm.  To your point that the game is changed, going to the wildcat adds a dimension and some unpredictableness if there's such a word to the offense.  I have been waffling on whether it's a good thing or not.  Anthony Giuliano throwing a TD out of it yesterday adds yet another dimension and certainly makes it hard to not believe in it.  Not sure the wildcat should always be in the mix but certainly with the injury issues they have had, it's helped CState get to 5-2.  By the way, heard Giuliano was a QB in high school. Anyone know if that's true?

Giuliano two year qb starter at Westlake hs in downstate Thornwood. All-state in '06 senior season

Ok so that's why the coaches have been going to the wildcat so much.  Makes sense.  They are certainly making the most out of the personnel they have given the injuries.  I know it was only one throw but it was beautiful!  Love to see some more of his arm in upcoming games.  Talk about a threat.  Anthony runs the ball well, runs the option effectively and if proves to be consistent, has an arm.  At the very least the wildcat forces opposing defensive coordinators to build and coach a plan that defends against it as well as the normal offenses.  Westlake seems to be turning out some decent players for CState.  The Giuliano brothers and two others on the current roster, Arnot and Gruber.  Steve G has seen some limited playing time on defense this year per the posted stats.  Is there maybe a third Giuliano graduating HS in our future!

Even though the hope is for Ithaca and Cortland to win out to produce a more hype game at the end of the year, I feel both teams are going to have their troubles running the table from here on in. Cortland is going to have their hands filled with Jersey and Brockport and I only seem them getting a split out of both those games at best. Cortland's D will need to step up to beat TCNJ.
