I like how TCNJ already has post season plans posted on their 2005 game schedule for the playoffs:

11/19/2005 NCAA Division III Playoffs-First Round  TBA Noon

JT,

Are you going to run the pool this year? As the defending  ;D CHAMPION  ;D I just want to have the chance to defend the title I arrogantly won last year.

Looking forward to a great year of ROWAN FOOTBALL

xGSC,

I can start it, but would appreciate some guest pick 'em spread volunteers to do it sometimes.

I'll set up a pick 'em panel today, and do week one.

I'll assist when possible and needed.

NJAC pick 'em is up on its own thread in the East Region.  Volunteer pickers are welcome.

I'm a little behind with rowanfootball.com due to a PC crash.  All data was backed but recovery took a while.  Should have CNU preview done by Wed or Thursday.  Should be able to catch up during the Sept 10th Rowan bye week, and have the 2004 highlight video done.

If you want an "out of conference" member, I will volunteer.   Also I will participate this year...

I posted this earlier on the E8 board.  It just occurred to me that it would be appropriate here as well. In the next Newsweek:

JT & XTREME,
my relationship w/ the lions football program goes back over 30 years... i was a walk on who  played 3 seasons & was fortunite enough to be a co-captian & all conference pick my senior year... i will always support the football program, but (like a lot of other alums) i am growing a bit tired of the "we are almost an ivy league school" crap.... the admission requirements have gotten out of control... the school is by no means a place for regular n.j.kids and it has gotten ridiculously hard to get kids into the school who can play at the top of todays d-3  football level ...little by little i have been watching this go on for the past few years, now it's getting crazy... lets face it, you can only win so many games with big brains & good coaching, the skill position players, game breakers just dont come w/ 1350 on their sats, top 3% of their graduating h.s. class class & a 3.75 gpa ... those boys are going to all of the other schools.....

JT

Mentor,

Ouch.  I hope Hamilton figures out a way to compete. Looking at those scores, I wouldn't even get in.

Seems like TCNJ for a State school is lacking balance between men's athletics and academics

JT,

JT, Mentor:

The remarks about TCNJ remind me of a similar discussion at Binghamton University (formerly SUNY-Binghamton and Division III) about the role of athletics.

People sometimes refer to BU as the "Ivy League" of public schools, whatever that means.

Meanwhile others on campus have groused a little that BU Bearcat athletics have received more attention than academics of late.  BU recently jumped to Division I where they participate in the America East Conference.

Personally, I think BU could be, and perhaps is, a fine institution without worrying so much how they compare to others.  They don't need to be the "Ivy League" of anything to be a good school.  And it strikes me as a little silly to pretend that entering Division I puts BU on par with Syracuse, Michigan or Texas athletics.

Frank,

Do you recommend Mennen or Johnson & Johnson ?  :)
