The Empire 8 didn't want Cortland in it.  Ithaca wanted us, but nobody else did, or so the story goes.  Also, we used to play Utica.  But Utica dropped us after we spanked them every season, and now they won't play us either.  Regarding the LL, Hobart used to play us every season when we were down in the 80s.  Then we got good and started kicking them around every season.  Now we are "not academically strong enough" for them to play us.

But the E8 did accept Springfield, a jock factory if there ever was one.  Why?  Probably because they knew Springfield would not hold up power wise if they left the weaker New England based schedule they used to make the playoffs with.

Why didn't we join the E8?  Because y'all didn't want us around.  I wish you did, because it sure would save me some miles on my car traveling to and from games!   ;)

The NJAC is a fine conference athletically.  Not sure about the "DJAC" moniker as Rowan has come a long way institutionally, and TCNJ is very strong academically.  I honestly don't know much about the other schools.  I'll let fans of the other schools speak for themselves.

Hey Dan,

I'm starting to lose it. The NJAC site really sucks. If it were not for the Rowan guys there probably would not be a NJAC site. You also do a great job here. Last year we had about 9 guys in the pick-em and as of tonight the only people who participated are xGSC and myself. If I get lucly with my picks I may be able to overtake him. :) Anyway, I'll be there in the rain tomorrow and hopefully another W for the Mighty Red Hawks. Good luck to the Red Dragons. It has to get better. ;D

LET'S  GO  MIGHTY  RED  HAWKS  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

I think that Cortland should get out of the DJAC and come into the E8 or the Liberty League, or hell, why not make a NY super conference.

1. Don't really see CState as LL material
2. An all NY super conference would be super, but only 2 teams could make the dance and that's hoping a Pool C is available.

I know this is the wrong board, but the NEFC should split into 2 seperate conferences and send 2 crappy teams to the playoffs.

Why couldn't we split into  2... I'm sure it could happen  ::)

Dan
I dont think Utica dropped Cortland  because we were getting our a$$es beat, but because we got into the E8 schedule.
Then we picked up some non-conference games against teams like Becker, Husson and Mt. Ida  ::)
I think Cortland would be a perfect fit for the Empire 8.

Dan, I dont think the e8 would ever let a public school in and Ithaca probably was included that but I assure you that the cortaca game is the #1 priority for Ithaca over any conference.  Springfield, although like Ithaca and Cortland has a good phys ed program but it is private none the less.  And Springfield had to end a huge rivalry with aic because of conference/division stuff.

(meaning that cortland would always be on ithacas schedule.  Ithaca would leave the league before that game would be eliminated.)

and public schools have its advantages......(nice multi-million $$$ stadiums)  you wouldnt believe it but Ithaca is really cheap when it comes to athletic funds in many areas......

Yeah, Cortland's stadium is gorgeous, and even a high school team gets to play there this year because their field is being redone as part of a capital project.

Homer High School's field and stadium renovation project is all done. The Trojans played their first game at the new stadium tonight. Homer did get to play at Cortland's Stadium Complex during the regular season for "home games." There's also high school soccer, field hockey and lacrosse at the Stadium too plus playoff games. They get good crowds for those high school soccer playoff matches. Go McGraw High School! :)

Warren,
you asked what i thought tcnj's "ridiculous entry requirements" were ?...ok... keeping in mind that this is a state school, supported by taxpayer $, with 97% of  its students come from the state...my feeling is that 1350 on the sat's, top 3-5 % class rank , 3.5-3.75 avg along with extra ciric. activies & lots of recomendations is a bit over the top because it eliminates too many regular kids who's parents  tax dollars & donations has fueled the place for the past 150 years...i graduated from there ,  played there, was a co-capt & made all conference & for the past 30 yrs i have kicked in my share of $, so i think it fair  for me  to have this opinion... i just dont like the idea that they have taken themselves out of the loop of being a state school for the regular  kids of the state.it's my cripe, & i know a lot of alums that feel the same way that i do... here is a list of colleges that i know of that have kids (many are football players) that were rejected from the "almost ivy school on pennington rd", but accepted to : rutgers, fairfield, nyu, unc, wvu, lasalle, mulhenberg , moravain, maryland, pitt, del val, fdu... get my drift ?... me personally i dont like it....for others , they think it great ... good for them

anyway... the kicker  (abbott )has a broken jaw & probably will not be cleared to play today... i guess the only way to negate that would be to score a lot of td's & go for 2 pts, & not have to punt ( no one to snap the ball either, those 3 have all been ko'd for the season)... but we can always squib kick the kick offs.... they'll win anyway !!

GOOD LUCK TO THE PROFS TODAY!

We will soon see if RU keeps the machine moving forward or will the Orihel loss be significant?  Rowan will not look past Kean and they should be more than motivated with the loss of one of their leaders.

Kean faithful-- your teams chances of winning today have increased because RU is missing a key cog in their offense, however, the defense and offensive lines are the same as last week when they dominanted a strong Cortland team for much of the game.  The same Cortland team that beat up on KU earlier in the season!

Beware of messing with a "wounded animal."  Even though Rowan may be wounded, they are more than capable of preying on upstart rilvals! ;)

One can argue that there are 10 NJAC institutions and they don't all need to have similar entrance requirements. Originally they were meant to serve regional college education needs – which is no longer the case. Now, I see absolutely no problem in having one of the colleges serve as an institution of academic distinction while another might fill the need of providing schooling for any student who might want an education. I wonder how many of TCNJ's students would have gone out of state if their entrance requirements and profile were the same as Rowan's or Montclair's?

Athletics aside, I think TCNJ fills a void among state colleges. Obviously they must fill some kind of need because the entrance requirements wouldn't keep rising if students who meet those requirements didn't want to attend.

...and if TCNJ weren't doing something right Rowan wouldn't have followed suit over the last several years. Now at least there's a sort of academic hiearchy among state schools instead of 10 cookie cutter colleges.

If TCNJ really, really wants to have a better football team they can call Johns Hopkins, Middlebury or Williams and ask to speak to Admissions. TCNJ's Special Admits average about 1100 on their SATs. Now the question is how many of these Special Admits does the football team get? My quess is that at places like Hopkins and Linfield the answer is PLENTY! At Middlebury ... well let's just say I doubt the ice hockey programs are made up entirely of MENSA members ... and Williams wins the Director's Cup every year mainly because that's the way the administration wants it.

Not to be picky, AC, but an exact double monkey stomp would be 42-0... 21 for each stomp...
Just ask Gro, he knows.
