Any pot that is sweeter for athletes than it is for non-athletes is going to run afoul of the NCAA financial aid auditing process. I just think you were misleading by saying it was that way for athletes, when in fact, it has to be that way for everyone, within the NCAA's 4% variance.

Kean was tossing out a disproportionate amount of scholarships to athletes until they self-reported and disqualified themselves from the post season in volleyball and men's & women's soccer. All this to try appease the NCAA once the you-know-what really hits the fan over grade fixing and the laundry list of allegations surrounding the women's basketball team.

To JT's point, though MUC has done nothing wrong, the football players, who make up a disproportionate amount of the student body (remember Swarthmore's logic for axing football?), still benefit because of their sheer numbers.

I just started looking at potential college costs for my oldest daughter. Assuming good grades and no aid, it's currently $10k cheaper for my daughter to attend U. Texas at Austin than TCNJ. **Sigh** Hook 'em horns ... I guess we'll be in Texas for awhile longer...

Phil, have you bought all that burnt orange stuff your daughter will need to survive in Austin? You know ... T-shirts, book bags, notebooks, sweatshirts, shorts, nail polish, a vintage Corvette with real longhorns on the hood? It's never too early to plan for the future.  ;)

Who's to define what's proportionate? At Mount Union, yes, 20% of the men are on the football team. Linfield, 19%, and heck, at a place like Presentation, right now more than half of the males on campus play football.

What, a 69 Eldorado convertible with longhorns isn't good anymore?

Warren,
I'll take the vintage Corvette and put the antlers on the wall ... that's the closest I'd let them get to each other!

Pat,
It's not for me to say what's disproportionate ... but if I did, I'd say 20% is a pretty good indication. Still, MUC's doing nothing wrong. Kean, on the other hand, is breaking new D3 ground in this area.

Its good to be back home. Power is back.

I'd take the caddie if it was baby blue.

I've always wanted to do a car restore.  Have an opportunity to get three broken down MG's.  Two have decent bodies.  I'm thinking I can make one good one.  I'm also thinking MJT will sh*t.

She goes away on a business trip for three days next week.  I am so tempted.

The 69 Eldorado would work as well, though especially for a middle-aged Texas oilman with more money than God.  :)

big game this weekend at rowan and very little discussion.  i believe that if montclaire is as good as some think, they will win this game and set up the njac battle with kean next week.  i think the game will be low scoring since montclaire has a strong d and rowan has an average o, or at least they were average when i saw them play cortland.  i guess the question will be can montclaire score enought to win the game?

The Rowan "recruiting" stories from the past were amazing. A good buddy of mine had a son who played QB at a legendary high school program in Southeastern PA and transferred down a level to Rowan. The K.C. Keeler stories were classic. He was the best at getting the I-A, I-AA and II transfers that I've ever witnessed in person.

I've also got numerous stories regarding financial aid packages for the University of Pennsylvania football team. Another buddy is paying less for his football playing son at Penn than he is for his daughter to attend East Stroudsburg:)

I think the key to the game will be our QB play and what the "O" coordinater calls for him. We need to mix it up. The "D" will do well. Destiny is in our hands. If we win out we go to the dance and should be ready to maybe go (2) deep. Rowan and Kean are no walks in the park. ::) Let's see how it plays out. ;)
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

MSU Pride

Yeah I know who that Rowan QB was and he was highly overrated....

My Red Hawks, this is why you play the game!!!!!! I have such fond memories of the preparation week against Rowan, the practices were intense, we practically slept in the film room, we all held our heads high, with a purpose and the true meaning of the word brotherhood could be seen on all angles...I remember, it didn't matter where I was on campus, I couldn't see anyone except my team, it didn't matter who was talking, I couldn't hear anyone anyone except my teammates and coaches. This Saturday fellas, put it all on the line, send of F$%ing message to the conference, to the East to everyone that MSU is ready for War!

Montclair-Rowan is huge. I have had my doubts about Montclair since they lost their QB in the Cortland game. They weren't the same in the second half of that game and nearly lost, and then did lose a few weeks later to TCNJ.

No question the QB position is the most important in football (see: Colts with Manning and without), and college football is becoming more pass oriented at all levels. So I'm not a believer in Montclair until they go into Rowan, score points, and get the job done. If they do, I think it will change a lot of our perceptions about the Red Hawks current situation.

Lots of big games tomorrow. None bigger in Eastern Region than Del Valley at Lycoming imo.
