Coaching is part of the overall team quality, Clandfan. I'm not saying the coaching has been sub-par. I'm just asserting that you can't argue a team is great, but it lacks this, that or the other thing. It's a total team effort. If kicks are being missed, it counts. If the special teams gives up big plays against Kean, it counts. If the offense disappears for 2 or 3 quarters at a time, whether it is the players or coaches to blame, it still counts. And yeah, the defense got torched for huge yards and huge points against Brockport.

You can "say" you have your best team in years. But when you are sitting on 2 losses, and just gave up 43 to a 2-7 Brockport team, you have to reassess if this is really that great a team.

Cortland is good. I've seen better teams in Cortland in the last decade. The team that went into Mount Union and scared the hell out of them for 30 minutes was better than this team.

I think some of your bitterness toward Cortland admin is coming through.

Uhhhh....O Rly?

That is a rather weak assessment. I have no bitterness toward Cortland admin. Fran Elia is a long time friend, I always say hello to Mike Urtz (who always made sure I was taken care of) if I see him on the sideline or at the gates, and I am appreciative of the way Coach Mac embraced my site and gave me full access to the team, anytime I wanted it. And my cousin is an important part of the sideline crew.

I think that if you want to call me out for having issues with admin, then you should post with your real name so we can pass our own judgement on your subjectivity.

I took down my site because of personal differences, but I didn't harbor a grudge. It's over. I have no less than 4 website that I am running these days, and I am very happy to have a football blog again.

The truth is we weren't that great last season, and we have most of the same guys back. This team was run off the field by Alfred in the playoffs. Our OL couldn't block their DL. Their OL pulled much better than ours and dominated the game. Alfred didn't exactly turn out to be a regional juggernaut.

If you are going to criticize everyone who doesn't proclaim the Red Dragons to be a top regional team when they have two losses, then you are not showing much objectivity. And btw we haven't beaten Ithaca yet, or won an ECAC game. How will you assess this team if they are sitting on 3 losses?

Ya ... We got torched.  We dropped 64 on them, 4 picks, a defensive TD, a def. 2 pt conversion and they scored 21 in the last 4 min. Against our 2 and 3 deep, but we are the ones who got torched.  This team did beat Kean by the way.

DanPadavona

What part of Brockport scoring 24 points and rolling up 370+ yards in the first half against the Cortland 1st team Defense don't you understand? I don't care that they scored 21 meaningless points at the end. And I don't care that we picked off their backup QB 3 times.

Stop getting so excited about us scoring 62. Buffalo State scored 51 against them last week and beat them by 21 points, just like we did. Buffalo State is 5-5. This wasn't a huge statement win for Cortland.

You have pointed to Keans victory over Wesley multiple times and perhaps I have misunderstood your intent in doing that as meaning Kean is so much more NCAA ready than Cortland.  The same Kean that lost to Brockport, but cortland you described as being torched.  In my opinion you have been overly critical of Cortland and I don't understand your comment about wondering which team is going to show up (I may be paraphrasing, I haven't gone back to check the thead)...what game have they not shown up for?

clandfan

As for the comment about your relationship with Cortland, I apologize. I don't know the situation and had no basis on which to say that.  I know you have been a long time respected contributor to this forum and I do value your opinion even if I don't necessarily agree with your current assessment.

DanPadavona

Kean obviously didn't bring their A-game for Brockport. We didn't bring our A-game for Ithaca in 2008, but we still belonged in the NCAA playoffs. In 2008, Cortland had 2 huge statement victories: Montclair and Rowan. Brockport and Kean were each good that season too, and we beat them both.

Kean has 2 statement wins in 2011: Wesley, and on the road versus Cortland. If they beat Montclair, they will have a third statement win. That's pretty impressive. Montclair owns a huge win over Cortland, and they can put Kean on that list with a win on Saturday.

Cortland has 0 statement wins. There isn't a single borderline playoff team we can point to and say, "We beat them." In order to move from good to great, you have to have one of those types of wins. A 2-loss team which can point to blowout victories over Morrisville, West Conn, and Brockport hasn't proven that it is great.

I don't get how calling Cortland a good team is disparaging.

MSU Pride

Before I commit to Kean vs MSU...I have to tip my hat to Coach O'Conner MSU's offensive coordinator, he called one hell and I mean one hell of a game yesterday....The QB had over 300 yards passing and D'Andria had over 100 yards rushing!

Congrats to Montclair and Kean for getting it done against Cortland. Not trying to take anything away from them.  Whomever gets into the playoffs, I hope represents the NJAC well and I will be rooting for them.

But how about this.  If Cortland were to play Montclair or Kean today, who would you take straight up?  Unless I am totally being a homer, I think most would take Cortland and rightfully so IMHO.

On to Cortaca.

I agree, I can't belive I just said that. ::) The "O" needs to perform every series, not just when we want them to. That's why we shoot ourselves in the foot so many times.
That's why I stress 110-60. It has to be. ;)

I'd take Montclair. :) Take care of business against Ithaca. Good luck.

There are always exceptions!  Same to you versus Kean.  Will be a great game for sure.

I'm with ya RDF and I am proud to be a homer just as Rams is proud to be a Homer; you didn't really think he would agree with you did you?  It is what it is....time to kick some bomber butt when they are down.

Jonny Utah

I guess we all agree that Cortland sucks then?
