Does anyone know if the conference has its own officials. I don't recall seeing any of the officials more than once

I am pretty sure the NJAC uses ECAC officials.

Pat- help this newbie out. What exactly is the ECAC? I thought it was just an organization that sponsored some post season football games. Obviously I'm way off here. What organization such as the ECACwould have their own refs?

Pat Coleman

Yes, they also have a refereeing group. There are other conferences that share officiating groups as well.

The ECAC also sponsors hockey leagues. Well, at the D-III level, that's going away as well.

D O.C.

I ducked into the S-W game before West Coast started.
Saw a good Wesley drive to answer what S had done before I tuned in. Was really surprised how S ran right through W to score on the next series. Right through them.
Then I left.

When I was a kid in the 1980's, the Boston Globe would always list some major d1 football teams that were independent (Penn State, Boston College, Syracuse, Temple, Army, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, etc) as ECAC Lambert poll teams, and these teams all had some part of the ECAC.  Since none of these teams were in a league and were independents, the ECAC was kind of a way to rank them without having any sort of official "league" although most of them would play each other.  Since the Big East/Big Ten/ACC etc has come about, the ECAC lost these teams, and apparently some juice as well.  The rest seems to be slipping away as even d3 is getting more organized and less interested in what the ECAC has to offer in terms of rankings and bowl games.

Either way some high profile Eastern Colleges are still members of the ECAC in d1 (Ivy, Patriot, Penn State, Georgetown, Boston College), and the ECAC's main functions seem to be all star teams, and some sports like track/rowing/wrestling that can have "ECAC meets" that many schools can be a part of.

What was your take on the holding calls. The refs let calls go al day and then one reference calls 4 in 4 plays one if which was 30 yrs behind the play..I think that the refs allowing Coach Woods to come on to.the field play after play to complain finally intimidated that one ref

Found it rather coincidental.  All came from the Salisbury side of the field.  Woods gets away with way more than most coaches do.  He is out of control and should be flagged more than once a game for just pure stupid histrionics.  The penalties all came on big plays by Wesley.  Hard to argue since the O line was getting beat more than that drums in the band at half time.  Salisbury should have been called for a hold on almost every scramble by their QB.  I have never seen more shoulder pads exposed on D lineman than I did Saturday.  No matter, if they play again Wesley will win.  The gulls did almost everything right and still only won by 3.

Pep remembers having these same thoughts at Alfred-Salisbury games with Coach Wood. Where is the line drawn on a coach's antics?
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

There's no way Salisbury's going to beat anyone of real significance w/their defense being that lousy...

I stand corrected...definitely didn't see Salisbury outscoring Wesley.  As they say, on any given day...

Interesting stuff. Thanks for the history lesson!!

Do you know what other games/leagues/conference/divisions the ECAC football refs call?

At the CNU games there people that sit behind me who have no clue what is going on. Every game. I'm not even sure why they come to games. This week's conversation....what beanie babies their dog sleeps with. On a safety, they were freaking out when the free kick was from the 20. They were wondering when that rule was changed from kicking from regular kick off spot. I wanted to turn around and say "1922". But they were busy chatting with their British accented guests.

I was annoyed beyond belief. They chatted about stupid stuff all game that had nothing to do with what was going on in the game.

Oh...the most noise they made was when the ROTC guys were shooting T Shirts into the stands.

GO HOME!!!!

And they also were discussing what WPU meant.....they decided not to read their ticket stub and instead determined we must be playing Western Pennsylvania University.

Pat Coleman

I'm not as up on the officiating assignments as I used to be but I know the MAC has used ECAC refs and I would guess the Centennial as well. Pretty sure the conferences in New England use them as well.

I started my playoff beard today.  I certainly hope I don't have to shave it off before the playoffs even start!  I know that should be unlikely.......

Ill be pulling hard for Frostburg State this weekend! Thats for sure. That two point conversion vs. NCC is of great importance now!

Looking at the Pool C eligible teams. Of the teams that have 1 loss right now, we have:
Wesley  (0-0 v. RROs last week, 49th SOS)
UW-Whitewater   (1-1, 74th)
UMHB   (1-1, 176th)
Moravian   (0-1, 135th)
John Carroll (although they have Mount this week, 0-0, 203rd)
Whitworth (0-1, 65th)
St. John's (0-1, 27th)
Wartburg (0-1, 123rd)
Guilford (0-1, 161st)
Albion and Olivet (Albion clinches MIAA with a win over Alma this weekend: Olivet- 0-1, 117th)

I don't claim that all these numbers are correct BUT it makes me feel a little better. Wesley's SOS is better than most (even though it will take a hit vs. WP) and Salisbury and hopefully NCC will sneak in to the Regional Rankings, giving them a 1-1 record vs. RROs.

Based on how things fell last week, Wesley will be the first team on the board for the East and if either Salisbury or NCC, preferable, make the RR then they look rather good compared to most of the other Pool C candidates.  It looked bad at the end of the game, but now I am pretty confident that Wesley will get in.

Mr. Ypsi

I would judge that Wesley, UWW, UMHB, and St. John's (in whatever order) are all essentially locks for Pool C.  The fifth and sixth spots are very much up in the air.

IF UMHB crushes ETBU just a week after they beat HSU, UMHB might even pass HSU for the B, and HSU might be dicier for a C, making it 4th, 5th, and 6th for the tourney. ;)
