Sure will be nice when we have some FOOTBALL to talk about.

I agree. You guys have a lot to look forward to with the Jets coming to Cortland. This board will be quiet for quite some time. You would think with Iona getting rid of football there would be a lot of NJAC teams fighting over the Iona talent, but nothing. I think Montclair willo have a tough year if Fisher is the QB. I would like to be proved wrong. ;D With our "D" taking a hit the "O" has to step up. Throwing lolly-pops just won't do it. Anyway, looking forward to seeing you guys at Sam Mills Field this year. Also looking forward to having some fun with the Pick- Em's this year.

I'm in on the pick-ems.  The entire community is excited about the Jets.  I can't help but think that there will be long term benefits to our program.  We will see how it goes.  I know that there are some internships available and expect we will have several of the boys here earlier to work / volunteer / intern at camp.

Like you...I am very curious to see how our offense comes around after a huge graduation toll.  Looking forward to our trip to Sam Mills.

The Pick-Em's should be fun and thanks for coming back.

You guys have a lot to look forward to. The presents of the Jets should be a big boost to the town and the University.

The NJAC should be wide open this year. A lot of recruiting info needs to come out. I'm still curious where all of the Iona kids  went. I hate to say this, but Rowan may be most improved team in 2009. Bless me father for I have sined. :) You guys get the nod from last years performance, but you could make a good case for 5 or 6 teams. Have a good summer.

@d3jason

Rowan is ranked number six the the Sporting News preseason magazine. Montclair and Brockport mentioned on their others to watch.

Our key will be our offensive line.  If they can come together as a unit in camp, then we will be good.  We will be solid at QB, RB, WR but if we have no OL it will negate our strength in these skilled positions.  Defense will be sound.

As for Iona kids, we only got one.  A big OL kid who was a freshman last year and I don't think he played.

Nice to see Sam Mills going into the College Football Hall Of Fame. Well deserved and God Bless Him. Now Montclair has to get off their butts and re-name Sprague Field "Sam Mills Field" It's about time. >:(

I'm getting the itch for some D3 Football and thought I would put my 2 cents in on the Sporting News Rankings. I just saw Conrad's post :

Should Not Be In - Lyco, LaCrosse, Hopkins, Bridgewater. Rowan & Del Val
Should Be In - Ithaca, Salisbury, Mules, Williamette, Occidental & Stev Point

I can not say who should be where and most of the teams I said should be out should be in my mind, and you could make a case for Lyco, Rowan and Del Val.

I would love to make a case for Montclair, but our QB situition scares me.

Boy my Yankees are taking it on the chin tonight, but on a positive note I'm going to be a Grand-Pa for the first time, Feb 4th.

NJAC has TEN football schools. Empire 8 has SIX and needs a SEVENTH to retain an AQ for NCAAs.

Word on the street is that RIT is jumping ship from the E8 to join the Liberty League. Ithaca and Nazareth, also rumored to be jumping ship for the LL, appear to be staying in the E8.

NJAC...can you spare a SUNY school or two to join the Empire 8? Pep hears the Empire 8 ever so sweetly and tenderly singing that old hymn....

Come home, come home....all who are weary (of traveling to Jersey) come home!
Softly and tenderly, E8 is calling, calling, "Oh SUNYs, come home!"

But the E8 looks down upon state schools.

Yeah, other than travel, I see no other real advantages for any of the SUNY schools to jump ship.  The guarantee of Pool A and 9 conference games a year are really hard to pass up.

Yes, but the E8 last summer opened the door to SUNY schools. Ideally, the E8 needs just one of the four SUNY schools to become an E8 affiliate for football only. After all, there's the SUNYAC for everything else.

Should a SUNY school join the E8 as an football only affiliate, they'd have 6 E8 conference games and, more than likely, could fill out a 10-game slate with NJAC teams, no? That would leave NJAC schools with 8 conference games, unless Pep is mistaken.

Here are my thoughts as a D3 Football fan :

Lycoming - A team that is improving and could be a Top 25 team as the season progresses, but not in the pre season.

LaCrosse - Probably got in from past history, but should not be after a 3-7 season.

Hopkins -  Had a decent year like Lyco, but let's see how the season progresses.

Bridgewater - Past history again, 4-6 last year just, give me a break.

Rowan & Del Val - Both are border line, but the other teams I had as Should Be In get the edge from last years performances. I think the NJAC pre-season will be Cortland, Rowan and Montclair as top 3, and your Aggies could very well be the MAC pre-season favotite or at worst #2.

Just my thoughts and hoped to generate some activity on the NJAC Board.

I have been saying for the past 2-3 years that Wesley and Salisbury are perfect candidates for the NJAC as football affiliates only. That would allow Buff, B-Port and Morris (the longest drives) to join the E-8. That would get the NJAC to (9) teams which would require (2) out of conference games. Sounds great, but we all know it will not happen.

Frostburg St. is joining the CAC in 2010 so I would think that Wesley, Salisbury and Frostburg would all have to be involved with any conference talk now!!

Okay, so let's call for a swap. NJAC gives Buff State, Brockport State and Morrisville to the E8 in exchange for picking up Wesley and Salisbury....Frostburg State goes to the CAC(?)...does one mean the Centennial Conference?

That leaves the E8 with 9 teams (8 conference games, 2 non-league); that leaves the NJAC with 9 teams (8 conference games, 2 non-league) and Pep believes strengthens both the E8 and the NJAC.
