PEP

The Capital Athletic Conference in which Wesley and Salisbury are members in all sports except football. And Steveson another member is in the process of adding football.
Football !!! The ultimate team sport. Anyone who plays DIII football is a winner...

PA_wesleyfan...thanks for the clarification. +K

Pep's first thought was of a "Capital" conference but couldn't find it listed among d3football conferences and now Pep understands why. They don't sponsor football as a conference(?)...but with Stevenson adding football, Frostburg State joining, does the CAC then sponsor a football conference?

Pep,

It appears that the CAC would have (5) football teams for 2010 if Stevenson adds football. Tough to get (2) pool "C" teams from the same conference considering Salisbury and Wesley stay at a high level and they should. If they do not have plans to get to (7) teams, lets make the sawp we spoke about. Sounds great, but probably pie in the sky.  :-\

B-Port                7-3           6-3
Kean                  6-4           6-3
TCNJ                  6-4           6-3
Willy P                6-4           6-3
Buff St.              3-7           3-6
W. Conn             3-7           3-6

Pep this past week met former Montclair State Red Hawk Derek Sininsky, who has taken on the unenviable task of coaching the Marlboro Mustangs (high school) football team. Sininsky played for the Red Hawks in the mid to late 80s. He's taken a major step forward with the Marlboro football program by taking his football players to Mayberry RFD for Coach Dave Murray's Gridiron Champions Football Camp.

To quote a most perceptive Sininsky of his impression of Alfred, "It's quiet here."

Anyone searching for summer solitude.....will find "Vacancy" at the Saxon and Economy Inns.

Sininsky's boys were some of the 230 high school football players in camp this past week from six different programs including Raritan, also from NJ, and Victor, Chautauqua Lake, Central Square, and Corning East.

Pep believes another 150+ high school football players will be arriving in Mayberry tomorrow for the camp's second session...

I have never been to Mayberry RFD, but pretty close. My business travels take me to Falconer. E. Aurora, Buffalo, Rochester, Sytracuse, Rome, Hornel, Binghamton etc. On my way to Facloner I usually stop in Cuba and visit Micky D's for lunch. I went to the Montclair / Morrisville game and it appears that Alfred sounds like a big city compared to Morrisville. :) I went to college in Elkins, WVa (talk about rural) and live in my NJ neighborhood with no sidewalks and plenty of woods. Nice to see the Jersey Boys getting some Up-State Foolball education. Good luck to your Saxons this year !!!

On a prod but sad note Sam Mills was inducted into the College Hall Of Fame yesterday.

As a matter of fact, Pep holds an AAS degree from Mooville. The only difference between Mooville and Alfred is that Mooville has a four-lane highway (US 20) running through it and likely has more bars. One needs to go up into the hills to get to Alfred, six miles off I-86 (Exit 33) but not anywhere one would drive through en route elsewhere.

Pep actually perused Davis & Elkins promotional materials when considering college. Pep could have gone to AU tuition free (and probably should have) but there was no communications major at that time. Mom Pep was a secretary at AU for 30 years, while Bepa (Grandpa) Pep was superintendent of buildings and grounds and, in addition to caring for the meticulously manicured sacred ground at Merrill Field for years, was also the "Voice of the Saxons." Incidentally, Bepa also played bass drum in the Alfred Village Band during summers... which Pep is happy to pick up with the Pep Band, the "Sound of the Saxons."

Next time you're in Hornell, Rams, you'd best pay a visit to Mayberry RFD. Let Pep know in advance and he'll send you his cell phone # so he can give you the grand tour.

I've just been reading the E8 Board and they are having discussions on who will finish where in 2009.

I thought my above post on July 17th would stirr up a little action on the NJAC Board, but I guess not. I guess we'll just have to wait until camp opens, but that's no guarantee either. >:(

Not even a mention about Sam Mills being inducted into the College Football Hall Of Fame.  :(

Pat :

Nice story on Sam Mills. Thanks  ;)

I sure wish Montclair would change the name of our football field from Sprague Field to Sam Mills Field. Went after the Pres Susan Cole years ago and she let her VP, BS me.

Funny thing. The library is also named named after Sprague, and I don't think he would mind. I guess I'm just not politically corrrect.

Maybe after he gets into the NFL HOF Montclair will do the right thing.  I will go to Canton for the ceremonies when he gets in.  He was one of the guys I looked up to, when I played.  He may have been THE guy. Well, Sam and Rocky Bleier were THE guys for me.

I agree that it's fairly absurd that the stadium isn't named after him.  Sounds like a real nice guy.

On another note, can't wait for the season to begin -- Maybe I'll make a prediction or two soon on here.

pgo4,

Get your projections in, and maybe we will have some discussion on this board. :)
