I have not really stayed up on the conference last year.  Just saw the standings and results.
But here we go:
1.  Rowan
2.  MSU
3.  Cortland
4.  Kean
5.  Brockport
6.  TCNJ
7.  WPU
8.  WCSU
9.  BSC
10. Moo'ville (as stated above)
CONGRATS to the Sam Mills family.  As well as, MSU for the great honor he received and may I add earned!
They (Administration) at MSU should make the change and call it SAM MILLS FIELD/STADIUM.  Just my opinion.

Well since I live in Jersey City, am a member of the Secaucus VFW post along with the Mayor of Secaucus.  I do know several of the arrested politicians, business as usual in Hudson County.

I agree that it's fairly absurd that the stadium isn't named after him.  Sounds like a real nice guy.

He had the demeanor of a wise friendly "good guy" off the field, and the right blend of smarts and intensity on the field.

It's great to see Sam Mills get the recognition he deserves. Perhaps one day Susan Cole & Co. will "get it" and realize the University can get by with one "Sprague". My guess is that the Spragues are still actively donating. Perhaps if you take away one Sprague it will lead to more ticket writing by the MSU gendarmes to make up for the shortfall of funds!

I won't presume to pick the NJAC from 1400 miles away, but I see that most people are giving little thought to TCNJ already. The Lions have quite a few people back – including their players at the skill positions that helped them average almost 30 ppg last year. While their season record of 4-5 wasn't all that impressive in '08, they were only blown away by Rowan in the final game. They lost two games by 1 and 3 pts., lost to Cortland late after giving up a 4th quarter lead, lost to Kean after giving up a 4th quarter lead and a TD off a 60 yard INT on the games' last play – and they lost at Mills Field in a monsoon to Montclair. While '08 wasn't great, they might very well compete if they can take a step forward this year. They could get off to a quick start with 4 of the first 5 games at home against Buffalo, FDU, Morrisville, Kean (away) and Brockport.

Nice to see Hudson County representing in the national news! Sitting down here in Texas I can see how good ol' NJ looks like one large Sopranos episode to the rest of the world!

Phil, as a native Texan, I urge you to be patient. Sooner or later, something akin to the current Jersey scandals will erupt in Texas. It's merely a matter of time until some of the good ol' boys down there are caught with their hands in the cookie jar ....  :P

Warren,
You don't have to tell me. I was hired in November by a multi-national, billion dollar company to run their Creative Services department. By February, if you were watching the evening news with Katie Couric, you would have seen me leaving the building following a raid by the SEC. Lesson learned, never work for a Texan who pays more alimony than the GNP of some small countries and goes by the name "Sir Allen". His puppet President pal from Antigua (pronounced an-TEE-gah after I spent a week from hell there), bestowed his title of "Sir". Texas proved they knew how to do a Ponzi too! May Sir Allen Stanford and Stanford Financial Group rest in pieces. Too bad 2,000 good people had to lose their jobs because of 5 or 6 greedy bastards who were in over their heads. The fun will start when the former Baylor University roommates start slinging mud at each other to avoid a Madhoff style sentence!

Hi Phil,

You are alive. ;) Nice stuff about Sam Mills. I have never met him or seen him play in college, but I sure would have liked to. The homer in me picked Montclair to go undefeated. Might as well go for the gusto early. Fisher scares me at QB and Oconnor is way to predictable. A D3 QB has to be mobile and if not mobile he has to have a set of brass ones, and Fisher has neither, but as you know I can be wrong. If you compare Montclair, Cortland, Rowan, Kean, B-Port and TCNJ anything can happen in the NJAC as you well know. Easy to get bit in the butt. By the way Montclair dropped a -0- on you guys last year in the rain. ::) Can't wait for the games to begin. Will you be coming to any games this year?

How is the family doing? I'm going to be a Grand Pa on Feb 2nd, talk about getting old, but it's the best feeling in the world. :D

Whats up with Cortland guys? Did they lose a lot from last year? Just curious?

phil

Rams,
I saw Sam Mills play in '80. I don't remember much other than it was my senior year and Trenton State beat Montclair State and won the conference – both of which were a very rare occurrence. I remember the game was a war. Trenton clinched the conference two weeks later after beating Ramapo by scoring 50 points in the first half.

Montclair won the game before they took the field last year with that weather. Not normal to have a TCNJ team rely on the passing game so much – but when you can't run and the rain is coming in a horizontal direction the defense better be scoring points.

Congratulations Grandpa! I was just up in Jersey for my God Daughter's wedding. I met her dad at TSC in '79. Age sucks.

Family's doing well. Average temp was 100° last month. Golf clubs are retired until the grips won't melt in the midday sun!

I picked Montclair to go 10-0 and must admit I'm a homer. Cortland should be the team to beat. Montclair, Rowan, Kean & TCNJ will put up a good fight, but I like the Up-State Football Game, and that puts B-Port in thr mix. Should be a fun year !!!

Cortland is a bit of an unknown at this time.   We will be solid on the defensive side of the ball.  We are replacing nearly everyone on offense.  The key will be the play of the OL; they have great potential but no experience.  If they can hold their own, we have the skill players to move the football.

You guys have a big one with the Jets opening camp today. Must be a great experience. I'm sure the Cortland Football team will get some benefit.

Anybody know when the NJAC press conference is this year?  If so, where, by any chance?  Is it at Kean again, it was there last year.  Very nice facilities, I might add.

I'm sure there will be some news around the Kean campus with the former WVU RB Jason Gwantly joining the roster.

I Googled Gwanyly and was surprised what I read. A train wreck ready to happen. He went from WVU to 1AA, DivII and now Kean. We talk of Kean as MSU South. In 2002 we had talent, but the headaches went with them. It even followed to B-Ball. Montclair has cleaned up their act in both sports and I hope Kean does not go in that direction.  D3 is for kids playing for the love for the game.I hope all works out well for Kean. :-\
