You left out the multiple times he quit WVU, his inability and unwillingness to do anything in the classroom (at WVU no less), community college and his arrest record for underage drinking, speeding and failure to produce a license.

From a Newsday article back in 2008:
Gwaltney's return to West Virginia comes after a tumultuous two-year stretch that saw him bouncing between Morgantown and Long Island.

Even though he's at WVU again, the third time around won't necessarily be a charm. New head coach Bill Stewart has told Gwaltney he must spend this year in the classroom and on the scout team before he can see the field. He will use a redshirt this season, leaving him with one year of football eligibility for the 2009 season.

"He's back with the team, he's on campus. He's just not eligible," said Stewart, who was quarterbacks coach when Gwaltney first came to West Virginia. "As long as he goes to class, does what he's supposed to do, as long as he crosses his Ts and dots his Is, he's part of the family.

...Former head coach Rich Rodriguez was prepared to give him another chance following the 2006-2007 season after he re-enrolled as a student, but a June arrest for underage consumption of alcohol, speeding and failure to produce an operator's license again landed him in hot water."

Gee, let's have a guess at how that year off in the classroom went.

So we have potential NFL talent joining Kean. Very nice. Although the circumstances are as far from the spirit of DIII as it gets and are potentially damaging to the reputations of Kean and the NJAC, I say give the kid a chance. However, if Gwaltney fails to get a degree and is out of school before the first snowfall I hope Kean's head coach and admissions office are made to answer for this. I wonder how many other schools turned him down before this DI athlete from Long Island "found" Kean. Hilarious.

Don't want to hear any more about what Rowan did a decade ago when we have this going on at Kean in the here and now!

Anybody know when the NJAC press conference is this year?  If so, where, by any chance?  Is it at Kean again, it was there last year.  Very nice facilities, I might add.

I'm sure there will be some news around the Kean campus with the former WVU RB Jason Gwantly joining the roster.

Typically, it is the first Tuesday in August.

I hope Kean is smarter. As far as football, the NJAC has been pretty good lately and no need to start the circus again. ::)

I noticed on the NJAC site that media day will be Aug 5th and it will be by phone. It will be interesting to see the projections. I'm guessing the coaches will pick Cortland #1, Montclair and Rowan #2-#3 (either order) then Kean, B-Port, TCNJ, Willy P, W.conn, Buff St. and Morrisville. Let's see what plays out.

I also noticed a (3) page story on the NJAC on Montclair and my friend Big Al C. was not mentioned among the coaches for this year. Any comments?

USA today reports: Jason Gwaltney has been selected as a First Team Academic All-American for the 2009 campaign.

Congratulations to Cortland (#11) and Montclair (#21) for their rankings in the D3 Football Pre-Season Poll for 2009.

1 Rowan  (5)
2 Cortland  (4)
3 Montclair  (1)
4 Kean
5...
6..
.....

Interesting  looks good though, i thought my boys up in c land would have came out 1.  But Rowan brings back way more experience, so i cant argue with second.

That's why we play the games. To be honest I would have picked Cortland #1 and Montclair or Rowan #2 or #3, you pick-em.  After reading the NJAC release, I guess the experience goes to Rowan, but why in D3 Football .com is Cort #11 and MSU #21? Don't know. A big test for Rowan will be vs Lycoming, and  MSU vs Wilkes in week #2, will give us a better sense of what is happening. You gotta love the beginning of D3 Football. Good Luck to all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All:  Based on who teams have returning, I have no problem with Rowan being #1.  Cortland has too many offensive question marks.  As I said previously, they have some great potential but they are very young.  Talented but young.  We also have new offensive coordinator.  Too many unknowns to rank us #1.

Hey, Jets are in town.  A great venue to watch camp.  It has been great for all involved.  Tonight's green and white scrimmage should be fun.  If you are planning on coming, start time has been changed to 6 PM.

Does anybody out there have any info on how Montclair did with incoming freshman and transfers? There was a blurb in the record on line that Fisher appears to be the QB and nothing else. There are no current rosters listed for any of the NJ teams. Life as usual in the NJAC. >:(

Unless I have missed something, I have found no 2009 rosters.  I don't know if that is NJAC or school rules.  Just now starting to see bits of info coming out since the league conference call.  Cortland seems to be tagging Dan Pitcher as their QB and has named captains but still no roster info.  http://cortlandfootball.blogspot.com/

The only NJAC team with a 2009 roster is Morrisville. Usually rosters do not get published until camp starts, but usually there is some info floating out there. I guess I'm just frustrated and can't wait for the season to start. ;)

Keep in mind, we're still in early August. Most camps don't start for another week or so at least. This is why you need to sign up for the D3football.com Kickoff Preview to read the Montclair State preview :)
