Gwaltney should be good. Lord knows he's been on enough college football teams at this point. Was it two or three chances with his D1 school with a couple of arrests and a conviction? Toss in a JUCO then a DII school in his home town – only to be disliked by team mates and then tossed by not following a post season conditioning program...

Yes, I'm sure Kean is his dream school. I'm also sure his last day of classes will be the day before the last game of the season – if he's there that long.

Tell me Phil, how do you really feel. You know there is no love lost for Montclair South :) Could TCNJ be going the way of Penn St. after Sandusky left and Papa Joe let his kid do the recruiting. They didn't climb out of the hole until Papa Joe got back on the road. ::)
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

Sounds like the second coming of Artis Garris.  Gwaltney is only going to Kean because NJCU no longer has a team or Coach Miller.

Gwaltney has more youtube vids than Kimbo Slice.  Hasn't twittered in a month... but he plans to be the best running back in country in 2010 (2009 I'm assuming).  He's certainly a workout freak and built like a brick you know what.

I'm surprised that NOBODY's talking about Kean's offensive backfield with the addition of Jason Gwaltney @ RB this season? Gwaltney & Jared Chunn @ RB behind the blocking of FB Sean Atkins complemented with a QB as accurate as Thomas D'Ambrisi I think the Cougars could be a force in the NJAC this season! ;D

Let's not forget about the other pieces to this offensive backfield:
Thomas D'Ambrisi is a former D1AA QB @ Monmouth University
Jared Chunn is an All NJAC performer
Sean Atkins had a stellar HS resume'
Add Jason Gwaltney to this mix & that's a receipe for success!!!  ;D

Does anybody at Kean enroll as a Freshman and play four years? Is it the 1990's again?

Any comments on my below post on the MAC Board this morning to the Wilkes fan from any of the Montclair Faithful? See you at Ralston Field this Saturday.

In the NJAC Pick-Em's I had the Mules as -3.5 and took the Mules Straight and Wilkes with the Spread. I always said that Wilkes is a well coached team and always in the game. Wilkes wining did not surprise me, but I thought the Mules would win. Congratulations on a great start. I'll be out at Ralston Field on Saturday. A little tailgate and as usual an exciting game. I think our "D" will be fine. Decent receivers, decent running game and the jury is out on our Soph QB. Saturday will be the test. IMHO this game could define the Montclair Season as to the teams Character.

rams1102,

I'm not sure if you're giving me a well-intentioned shout out or a little backtalk- I'll go with the former for good measure. My comment on the Muhlenberg game was just some good-natured fun after a great upset win over a very good Mules squad. I can completelty understand many people picking Muhlenberg, and if I were in an objective situation, it would be hard to argue the pick. If you think I was being cocky or arrogent or anything of that nature, I wasen't, so we will indeed see you at Ralston on Saturday. MSU has always brought a great group of fans who know how to tailgate, so let's have some fun and we'll see what happens-lots of players and fans from the Garden State on either side of this one :)

Please do not take any offense. There was none ment.  :) I was just trying to get some of the Montclair fans awoken. I guess it did not work. :( I will be at Ralston tailgating with my daughter. Works out well, after the game we will visit my Mom in Nanticoke then back to Jersey on Sunday. I'll have the "Red" grill. Stop by, say HI and get something to eat.

That's what I thought- just thought it best to cover all the bases :) Let me know where you'll be and I'll be more than happy to say Hi. As for waking up the fans, I'm sure they will be involved later in the week- MSU always brings out a great crowd both on gameday and on the boards. Cheers ;)

I'll be at the end of the parking lot for an easier access to the stadium if possible. I set the line for the NJAC Pick-E'm with Montclair (-3.5). Your thoughts?

Man, that is one long quote :D

On the line, I'm not a gambling man, so no comment, as it would not be very educated. I haven't looked up much on Montclair yet, but with Coach Giancola and a fertile recruting ground, you know the program is always going to be good and you're going to get a tough game. I haven't seen MSU play since they beat us in the weather-interrupted game in 2007, but I know they Jersey guys (of which there are many on the Wilkes roster) will be pumped for it- being a NEPA guy for life, I was suprised by how big the game was back when I was with the team.

If you've got the grill running, I'll be there :) I assume you've been to Ralston Field before, but if you or anyone else reaidng needs tailgate info, or directions/tips/etc.. just give me a yell. Cheers :)

First off - Let us never forget and remember this day and honor those who lost their lives and help support their loved ones in any way possible today.  Never forget!  Take time today by going to one of the many memorials or just take time at your desk to remember.
I know I don't get to follow things as much as I would like and I hope all is well with everyone.  Today - all of this seems meaningless in comparison - Just my 2 cents -
Phil, you speak as if Kean is only surviving because of transfers and what, no other NJAC school has ever taken transfers into their program?  Kean has 65 returners from last years team (out of the 100 man roster).  One of which was a transfer last year - Dambrisi.  I know your pride is with TCNJ, but Kean has come along way from where it was.  According to the roster there are 15 seniors this year listed, which shows growth in many ways.  I remember a few years ago there was 5 or 6.  I don't expect you to recognize any of the strides made, but you're acting as if Kean is a transfer mill.  Come on.  Rowan, Cortland, WPU, MSU who has historically taken chances on some transfers, even TCNJ has transfers on their roster - so let's not be so quick to bash Kean (even though I know you will regardless).  I would think after watching over the past few years, kids transfer to the D3 level into the NJAC for several/various reasons.
65 returners from a year ago says alot about the program from an off the field vantage point.  2 transfers in two years (Dambrisi/Gwaltney), one of which has proven himself on and off the field at Kean and is only a soph this year, the other only time will tell.
I am sure that regardless - Kean to you is and always will be the red headed step child to throw you know what at...
Best wishes to all the NJAC schools this season.

phil

I don't mean to degrade Kean, but the free agent acquisition of Gwaltney taints the rest of the program. Sorry, but there's no other way to put it when you read his long history of missteps, foibles, arrests and inability to find campus classrooms. Make no mistake, Kean has come a long, long way. They are now right in the mix and have separated themselves from the NJAC second division teams. I have no doubt that Kean can win at least two games against TCNJ, Cortland, Rowan and Montclair this year. That said, there is nothing in Gwaltney's past that should make us expect anything different out of him in the future. He will have every opportunity to prove me wrong – for his sake I hope the sixth time's the charm and he makes the most of this chance. Of course, if he puts in a monster season and is gone from the school before the Winter break, I won't care what he accomplished on the field. Tell me something. Do you really believe he'll last the semester? The school year? Will he get a diploma from Kean?

Let's keep in mind that DIII football is more than putting the best team on the field. I like to think there's a little more integrity involved than in the other divisions. Several years ago I went after another poster in the NJAC who thought their team was going to be remarkable because of a boat load of high profile transfers (it wasn't in football). I thought they had some really shady characters on this team and that it could all backfire and reflect on the coach, team and institution. Not only did this team implode with personality conflicts and players quiting (on paper they might have been one of the best the NJAC has ever seen), but one of the best players was playing under an alias, had a rap sheet a mile long, and was selling drugs from his dorm. He finished the athletic season in the state pen.

Now, I'm drawing a drastic parallel, and I'm certainly not saying Gwaltney is a felon – but there are transfers, and then there are transfers that you're going way out on a limb to bring into your family. As I said, there is nothing in his past that would suggest he's going to be in school for longer than the football season. For his sake, I hope I'm proved wrong.

From his videos Gwaltney seems to think he's going to the NFL.

see your point but the facts are a weeee bit off....joe has visited 1 recruit in the last 2.5 years (hint he is starting in columbus, ohio right now).  qc coach mike mcqueary is head of recruiting and the reason they are doing so well recruiting is dline coach larry johnson who robs/pilllages every state on the eastern seaboard for who they want. every recruit who comes to psu says they love lj.

You had to bring it up again. :( Those were a bad few years. There was also another sport involved. Drugs and not going to class. :( Thank God that is in the past.  :D Don't forget to do your pick-em's. ;D

Congratulations Joe, I am not sure why it is important for you to know who I am.  To be totally honest I don't recognize your name and I am sure that there have been about a 20 - 30 guys who have worn that number since you left, likely our paths have crossed if you're as big a fan of the program as you indicate- I was part of that program and saying who I am serves absolutely no purpose at this point.  Regardless, that is not what the blog is about.  What I have presented are facts and my opinion.  As part of a blog that is generally the concept - if you take exception to the nature of this - well too bad.  What I strongly urge is not to have blind loyalty, but I would suggest that to honor your committment to the program demand that the athletes who are playing are provided with the same level of committment that was there when you played.  I have pointed out issues for discussion, it is not a pissing contest.  There are many things that most people are not aware of.  I am just adding some food for thought.  Nothing wrong with some discussion is there????

I'm not too sure it's a "discussion" when you obviously have a grudge against the coach.
