Montclair wins 14-6.  NJAC Champions!

Congrats MSU!

Ditto from me.  Do the NJAC proud and give em hell in the playoffs!

Ex D3 Athlete

Congrats to Montclair State Red Hawks for their victory today winning the NJAC Championship over my Kean Cougars!  :'(
I was proud of the turnout by the Kean faithful that seemed to outnumber the Red Hawk fans today @ Sprauge field!  :o
Hopefully Kean can still get into the NCAA playoffs and help Monclair represent the NJAC with PRIDE!!!  ;)

Congratulations Montclair State, You're Going To The Dance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had some time to reflect on the game yesterday, so here we go :

The Red Hawk "D" was awsome. It's been one of the best D's I have seen. I mentioned before the game that if we kept Chunn at 80-110 yards we would have a good chance to beat Kean. The "D" held Chun to 57 yards !!! An overall great defensive performance. I'm going to try to say this nicely, the "O" is not very good. I put the blame on Coach G. and O'Conner. We have talented running backs, Bliss and Jimenez but up the middle left and up the middle right does not work. When Bliss and Jimenez went outside we had success. I see some improvenent in Fisher but nothing to speak of. The play calling just sucks. Sorry, but it's true. To give credit where it is due O'conner called for a QB draw when we were on the Kean 2 yard line and I think that faked everyone out. We had 2 first downs in the first half and 7 overall. Give gredit to the Kean D, but give me a break. Let's see how the brackets turn out and get ready for next week. The Offensive coaching staff has to get it together, we have enough talent on "O" to make a nice run in the PlayOffs so let's Get-R-Done !!!!!!!!!!!!!
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

How Bout Them Red Hawks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats to all the players and coaches, wow that was one hell of a game. Defensive battle for four quarters, I think this game was determined on two maybe three plays. I also think Fischer played within himself and managed the game properly, he didn't try to win the game and if his first read wasn't open he threw the ball away, did not try to force anything, It was a battle for field position he knew that. What can I see about Agresta's defense that hasn't been said all year, Chunn is explosive, but the defensive "fits" were perfect yesterday. These kids believe they can win and remind me of my squad in 2003, now, it's time to get back to work and show the region what MSU and NJAC Football is all about!!

Congrats to Kean on one hell of a season, this is a tribute to the job Garett and Miglorino have done!!

Congrats to Montclair. They managed to get it done after opening with the Wilkes loss and pulling out the TCNJ game with three 40+ yards field goals.

As for my alma mater... getting out-gained by Rowan by over 500 yards and managing 55 yards of total "O" while racking up 91 yards of penalties – is certainly a low point in the Eric Hamilton era. It's been a hard fall since 2007. Whether it's personnel, or coaching or a combination of the two with injuries thrown in for good measure – finding a defense has to be a priority now. The Lions now have had the two worst years in program history defensively. In the past, though out-manned and out-gunned at the skill positions, TCNJ always had a decent defense. Not any more.

OK,  looks like Maine-Maritime at Montclair next Staurday t 12:00 pm, let go Red Hawks.

I'll give you guys a run down of Maine Maritime.

Offense: It is lead by the Boyd Player of the year in Fullback Jim Bower who is a senior. He is a big back who runs low to the ground and churns out yards. Not fast, but has enough speed to break a run on you. Their best player in my opinion is the QB Angell who is very athletics and throws a decent deep ball for a option team. He runs the option real well as he has been in the system for 3 years now as a starter. He can stretch teams sideline to sideline and makes good cuts upfield. The other back to look out for is a kid named Bourassa. Does most of his damage on the outside on pitches. The reason Maine is tough to stop is because they make you prepare to stop the Triple option because they are so good at it, but are a great team at running veer plays with the fullback and counters with the halfbacks. They are a great cut blocking team and have one linemen who was all league at guard. Receivers have some good height, so they do like to go deep with a fake option to them from time to time.

Defesne: Weakest point of team, but the strength of the unit is with the LB. They have two first team all division kids in Fergulo who is the Mike and Strongside backer whose name escapes me right now. Teams have showed they can pass and run against this team with some teams putting up huge numbers against them. Not the greatest athletic bunch in the secondary but they hold their own in the conference. Some stats can be misleading since the teams has built such huge leads in some games, they either lose focus or put in the second team.

Overall: I saw them play against Bridgewater earlier this year in their only loss 40-14. They are notorious for losing to horrible teams at the beginning of the year, but by the end of the year they are usually hitting on all cylinders and tough to beat. Bridgewater was a good team, and Maine had trouble holding on to the ball for most of the afternoon with four fumbles. Bridgewater was able to pound the ball on them most of the afternoon and wear Maine down. From what I heard that is Montclair's strenght on Offense, or what the coaches prefer to call. Overall Montclair is the better team but it will be closer then most expect.

How about the 40 (embellished) personal fouls between both teams?  Just like last year.  Although the all out brawl at the end of the game was new.

If MSU loses to MM, then the NJAC really sucks, and we just haven't realized it yet.  Otherwise, have fun in Alliance MSU fans.  Try the pregame all-you-can-eat brunch in the building about a 1/4 mile behind the stadium... it rocks.  Just ask a Mount Union fan where the brunch is... totally worth it.  Arrive early and stay in Canton (MSU will probably stay in Canton) find out where the football team is staying and then ask the hotel for the team rate.  Go to the Pro HOF on Friday if you arrive .

Call the SID office if you are traveling on your own and ask where the team is staying.  Also get your Mount tix from the SID... might be able to pay on the MSU website.  So you can sit with friendlies.

So I guess I'm eating my words on that pre-game prediction I threw out Friday, but congrats to MSU on the NJAC championship.

Didn't hear about much, only got the NJAC POTW release with the final score. What ended up giving? Kean's D seemed like it came to play, but I guess Montclair's unit left a smaller margin of error.

ALSO

Before conference selections come out, I'm curious to hear your guys' thoughts on front-runners for NJAC Player of the Year Awards.

You've gotta love what Jake Graci (Brockport) has done with the football when he's found receivers. But the mountain of picks -- combined with the Golden Eagles' 4-6 record -- has got to be a disadvantage. Wins, losses and everything else aside, I'm pretty sure we can concede post-season daps for his teammate (LB Nate Bull) as the conference's top defensive performer.

I like Rowan's Wilczynski for offense. I'm torn between him and Jared Chunn of Kean (who's actually a really nice dude, bt-dubs). Even after Week 6 I'd have put my cash-money on Chris James, but no Vegas line could have called that late-season skid -- or the ridiculous amount of injuries.

Edge to Chunn, since he's the most potent threat on the team with the better record. But I'd have to think that principles and the implications of selecting a back-to-back winner might scuff his chances. Watching FW operate that offense -- without, mind you, a healthy Ryan Leafey -- was pretty impressive though, I'll admit easily.

Eddie Weiser is a lock for the defensive rookie performer, and I'd have to say James Kinloch for Rowan is the favorite on the other side.

Specialist is up in the air though. If I had to guess, I'd say that Kean's utility kicker (sorry dude, drawing a blank on your name) has to be the front-runner. Zucconi's the country's second-best punter, but he's missed a few field goals down the stretch. Billy Daniels (there it is) has kicked a ton of field goals and seems to be just as reliable on punts.

Thoughts?

Probably a hopeless request, but let's keep it positive. That joke of a finish to the TCNJ/Rowan game but as negative a damper on my weekend as a cold sore on a 16-year-old's high school prom picture.

I told my wife this past Friday, I have a feeling we will beat Kean and go to the dance. I figured we would be seeded 4th which ment if we win the first round off to Alliance. I told Lorraine I'm going to Alliance if all goes well. She thought I was out of my mind (Lorraine is not a big football fan). Thanks for all of the info, if we beat Main Maritime it looks like a Western Pa business road trip that week. Cancel the business road trip idea, Thanksgiving just snuck up on me. ;D

Kean will represent the NJAC in the ECAC Bowl Championship game against Ursinus College. All I can say to my fellow Cougars is play hard & end the season on a high note with a win @ home in the ECAC Southeast Bowl Championship!
