hey rams, sounds like a nice win for montclaire.  i figured you would shut them down, recall i said they might get 14.  seems like the concern would be the 3 ints.  sets up a nice game on saturday.  2 of the top d's likely to keep the score low.  will be interesting to see if montclaire can score more than 10, which i think they will at least need in order to win.  talk to you during the week with some fun banter.

If I remember correctly, I think you stated, could we score (15). We got (16) but should have had more. As I said earlier we need to find the killer instinct. We tend not to score many points in the second half. Both teams "D" is real good and a big edge to Wesley in the scoring department. If you do not play hard for (4) quarters against Wesley you will be doomed to lose. Can we pull off a "W" yes, but we must be perfect. Time will tell. ;)
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

Alfred gets pretty good support on the road. While parents form the nucleus of the AU crowd (and AU parents are the best!), there's also a good following of "locals" and alumni. Alfred is likely to have a good crowd at Cortland, which is an easy trip compared to Springfield, St. Lawrence, RPI, etal.

Pep was pleased with the crowd at Merrill Field Saturday, considering the increase in ticket prices (NCAA) for both students (usually free) and general admission. Pep noticed the Cortland-Endicott game drew a crowd of only 822 and wondered whether that was unusual for an NCAA Playoff. Not really. Of the 16 playoff games on Saturday, here are the games listed in order by attendance (Pep could not locate attendance for 2 games):

Bethel at Wartburg 3100
Trine at DePauw     2400
Christopher Newport at Mary Hardin-Baylor  2115
SUNY Maritime at Alfred  2008
St. Lawrence at Mt. Union 1973
Benedictine at St. Thomas  1620
Montclair State at Hampden-Sydney 1554
Salisbury at Delaware Valley  1500
Franklin at Whitewater  1468
Wittenberg at Ohio Northern 1380
St. Norbert at North Central 1100
Muhlenberg at Wesley   918
W&L at Thomas More  863
Endicott at Cortland   822

Coe at Wheaton n/a
Cal Lutheran at Linfield n/a

Not a great take at the gate for the NCAA.

The numbers may not be large, but the fans attending are real football fans and not pretty people looking to be at an event.

Mr. Ypsi

I have no knowledge of H-SU attendance, but will almost guarantee that the numbers at UMU, Wheaton, and Linfield would have been at or very near the top of the list if they had been reported.

I am shocked!!! HSC seemed packed, they had a huge tailgate, the field was surrounded, their side was packed including the upstairs VIP, plus they had a hill that was packed with people...

Don't know the layout, but IF the hill was outside the perimeter, those people wouldn't be counted in attendance.

Pep would say Alfred's crowd was more than 2008 but NCAA regulations dictate that official attendance list ONLY those who paid for tickets. Pep knows for a fact there were likely more than 200 passes issued for media, event staff, concession stand workers, security, pep band and cheerleaders. There were likely many more watching from the hillside and Miller Performing Arts Center. Not sure whether admission was relaxed after halftime.

SUNY-Maritime fans (two busloads made the trip) chose to sit in the homestands (in the sun) for the first half and most moved to the visitor side for the second half when the sun finally shone there.

Hampden-Sydney's Everett Stadium, according to this website, has a capacity of 1850.

As for Army football, Pep would love to see a game sometime in Michie Stadium. Given the Saxons' bye week and an Army home game coincide, Pep will likely get Kaz00 to introduce him to Army football.

Today's stars, tomorrow's heroes!!!

Pep...what are the odds of you all mustering enough bodies for the trip to Cortland?  Been reading your posts and comments about the band for sometime now and thrilled we might have a shot at hearing them!  I for one, appreciate the sound of live music at games...just adds a wonderful feeling to the game.  Happen to love music in general with a daughter who just graduated as a Music Education major.  Nothing thrilled me more than going to my son's High School football games and having her playing in the pep band.  As close to nirvana as you can get in my book! Hoping you can make it happen!

Pep knows for sure that Pep and Kaz00 will be there so that gives "the band" a kazoo, a drum and a couple of loud mouths. With the Thanksgiving break, the "regulars" who comprise the band will be in Pennsylvania (eating homemade pumpkin pie), in Massachusetts (near where the Pilgrims got it started), and various other parts unknown embarking on the season's traditions.

Last year, the pep band traveled to all the games but this year after making the long trips to St. Lawrence and Springfield, missed the Hartwick, RPI and Utica games. Pep and 'z00 may have coaxed a trumpet player alum to drive up for the game Saturday from Long Island, picking up a tuba player en route. Meanwhile, Pep is hoping to pick up a few "ringers" to fill in.

While Pep has always emphasized that the band is there to support our Saxons and not for our own "performance," it has developed a decent repertoire including Blitzkrieg Bop, Bang the Drum All Day, Crunch Time, Cleveland Rocks, Gonna Fly Now (Rocky theme), Land of 1000 Dances, 25 or 6 to 4, Smoke on the Water, Evil Ways (Santana), plus cheers such as "Go A-U!" "Eat 'em up!" "St. Thomas," and "Back in Black" but the mainstay is "On Saxon Warriors," the AU fight song, which the band plays, sings then plays again each time AU scores.

And while on that note, Pep heard from a Saxon fan who told of a young SUNY-Maritime fan complaining Saturday that "that band isn't very good. They keep playing that same song over and over and I've never heard it before."

On Saxon Warriors!

My daughter, who plays a pretty wicked trombone, will be there but don't think her brother would be thrilled if she played for the AU pep band!  Would be kind of cool though....have you actually ever had a contributing musician join you from the opposing stands?  Just curious!

Just to make it clear.  I know all about the history of Army Football and Notre Dame Football.  I just really don't care.

I guess we can end the conversation there.

This is what you should have led with.

I grew up going to Army football and lacrosse games at Michie. While the team has declined some, I'm not sure there is a more special place to see a football game in fall. The view from the upper deck at Michie down to the Hudson with the leaves turning colors is unmatched. Throw in the full dress review on the parade grounds, and the cadets marching up the hill into the stadium, plus some killer tailgating, well, it doesn't get much better than that.

Definately worth an afternoon in the fall, especially if you're within driving distance. Do yourself a favor and give yourself some time to walk around the campus.
