I think it might be a little pre-mature to dismiss Lyco. Granted, I haven't seen Rowan live yet, but Lyco has been upping their game over the past three years.  The HC is no slouch. He's been bringing in good players.

The game plan for Rowan may have been too conservative.  The two RB's that ran wild last year were knocked out early in the game to injury. Rowan stayed too conservative and had no offense until they were forced to throw.

I think it is too early to discount the outcome.  I think both teams are top 30 at this point.

Cortland - Not bad getting the rust off.
Rowan - A quote from dlip - what the f--k !!!
Ithaca - Shows you what I know, they just get past B-Port.
Del Val - A quote from dlip - what the f--k !!!
dlip - Whats the read on Salve. What can we expect next week?

rams I would look this week from some analysis from Frank since he was there and called the game but dlip listened to it and came away with a few thoughts on Salve.

They are a good football team, not a very good football team, not a bad football team, not an upstart football team but a good football team (at least from the game today and their six previous wins). This team's core comes from it's defense. It has multiple looks/sets/formations (dlip thinks he heard Frank say something like 12 or 13 different formations) and can confuse QB's with these formations. Union (who dlip still is assessing in his head from today's game) can bring it on O in the air. They did so today, at times, breaking down the Salve D with some pinpoint passing and excellent catching. On the flip side they will force picks, how many? It is hard to tell because Drew does throw picks against most teams. Today he threw 2. Their D held Union to 33% on third down conversions (4 of 12) and 0% (0 of 3) on fourth down tries. They held Union to 121 yards on the ground as well (Union is very young in the backfield though). They had only one sack but Union's line is pretty decent. The only time the defense seemed out of sync today was when they went to a prevent at the end of the game and Union tore right through them. As far as offensively Salve did not seem all that great to dlip, this is their weakness. They are strong on the ground with Richie Edwards rushing for ****ing 230 yards today. QB Jimmy Connelly was 15-25 throwing for 209 yards. Yet they seem somewhat one dimensional with a focus on the run. To dlip their offensive numbers weren't all that bad but one must consider Union's weakness this year (at least as of right now to dlip) is their D. dlip has no idea what has happened to this Union defense recently :'(. Overall Salve won the time of possession and really scored points in a hurry in the fourth quarter. dlip will say it again, he thinks they are a good team and deserving of a lot of credit for their W today. Good luck rams.

Thanks for your up-date and +K. I figured the "D" was good and it seams like their "O" got a little better. Time to see if we are worthy of our Pre-Season #12 ranking.

I remember when we opened-up at Wilkes and got wacked. Then we proceeded to run the table. Later in the year I got to see the hall of fame, ate the best breakfast buffet, and got to witness the sacrafical alter in Alliance. You guys had a tougjh loss, but not in conference. It will still be an interesting year. Will you come to Sam Mills Field next week?

I am sure it's a matter of time before Buff State returns to the top level program it once was. Jerry Boyes did it once, I'll bet he can do it again.

Xreddragon.....truer words have never been spoken. With 7:57 left in the 3rd quarter and the Bengals going up 12 to 7 ...... visions of Boyes championship teams of yesteryear danced in our heads, back at 1300 Elmwood ave.

The Bengal faithful are encouraged to say the least! Outgaining the Red Dragons by 46 ( 296-250) adds more encouragement to the Bengal faithful. To hold CSU to 81 yards on the ground (100 less than their 181 per game in 2010) gives me reason to check the mileage from Buffalo to St. Johns Fisher for next weeks out of conference battle in Rochester.

Congrats to Cortland!
The Bengals definitely showed up to play and are a much improved team over the last two seasons for sure.  Congrats on a well played game.

Very happy that the Cortland D didn't give up a TD with the lone TD for the Bengals coming off a defensive linemans dream.  Pitcher drops to pass, get's hit and the ball pops up right into the hands of, I think one of the defensive ends for Buffalo, who takes it in from like the 20 or 25 yd line.  Other than that, the defense seemed to buckle down when they needed to although they were on the field an awful lot particularly in the first half.  The offense was just not getting it done.

Offensively it was Autera running the ball with the exception of a couple of carries for another RB and several carries by Pitcher himself.  I know Autera is our stud but also hope we introduce more threats out of the backfield other than him and Pitcher.

After a very hot and humid game, having next week off for CState will hopefully allow them to recuperate and be well prepared for Kean the following week.

Back in my time we basically lined up in the "I" and ran the ball down peoples throats.  Times have changed with the arrival of the spread schemes.  Anyway....best of luck to the Buff State guys and lets get to Kean week.
Taste It!

I think this can work out very well for us.  Buff St. Was a very good early test.  We face some adversity and answered the bell.  Bengals were blitzing almost every play and in the first half we didn't make them pay for it.  Finally we scored on a screen and in the second half I thought the OL did a much better job.  Two weeks now to look at this game and address problem areas.  They say teams improve the most between weeks 1 and 2.  Well we have between weeks 1 and 3 to work it out.

Its tempting.  The weekends are when I work on my internet businesses, but I do need see more football than I did last year.... two games.

There were quite a few positives this past Saturday.  I think if the Profs become a little less conservative it will serve them better the rest of the season.  Rowan tried to just run it down Lyco's throat, and it wasn't working.  I knew Lyco was going to be better, and I knew Rowan lost a lot of vets.  There was this kid from Wayne Valley HS, A RB named Matt Dortch, a former 1st team All-State, he played well.  Listed as freshman even though he graduated HS in 2008.

Defense played well.  We need a better passing game.  If it comes they'll be alright.

OK, here we go. We're ranked #11 in the D3 Poll. Time will tell. We will be good this year but we neen to to go 110-60 and learn the killer team instinct. In my opinion we have not learned this for as long as I have watched. The word is "Team". Everyone must have it, from the players to the coaches. 99% doesn't do it, only a 100% commitment gives you a chance for the brass ring. I feel Fisher and the "O" steps it up and the "D" will take care of business. Salve is now a team that thinks they can come to Sam Mills Field and win. Time to take care of business and keep rolling.

LET'S  GO  MIGHTY  RED  HAWKS, 110-60 AND "KEEP POUNDING."

Truer words were never spoken.  As long as Fischer doesn't get rattled and the O line does thier job. I see a W for us. See ya at the game on Saturday. I'll be up in the lot near the Red Hawk deck.

Best of luck to Cortland also XRED! Not sure how the playoffs work in football (im a basketball guy at heart and I know the SUNYAC/NCAA HOOPS  system front to back....back to front), but if possible... hopefully the 2 will meet once more this season! ;)

MSU Pride

Can't wait to see MSU this Sat, I think they have all the potential to make some serious noise, with all of the returning vets plus the addition of some talented youngsters, certainly going to be fun to watch it come together...

Side note, stand out linebacker John Lennox he played Football at Montclair State from 00-04 was on the 2003 NJAC champion team, he was the one who jumped over the center and blocked the field goal against Allegheny in the playoffs. Turned professional in boxing a year and a half ago, is currently 7-0 in the heavy weight division has his 8th fight September 14, 2011 at the Robert Tree Hotel in Newark against the 2009 US Amateur Heavy weight champ Joey Dawejko who is I believe 7-0 professional as well.

Come show your support!!! should be one hell of a fight

Even though we finished winless last year, and only have 4 wins the last 3 years I'm looking forward to Western Connecticut football this year.  I'm not expecting much against NJAC teams, but we should be able to take care of SUNY-Maritime this evening, if we don't could be another long year.

MSU Pride

Hey guys,

For all that are attending the Montclair State game tomorrow, while walking into the stadium you will see a few tables set up near the ticket booth. At those tables will be a Sam Mill's jersey, his helmet from Montclair State, Carolina Panthers and various pictures taken of him over the years, along with a big banner which says "Keep Pounding" Keep Pounding was a phrase made famous by Sam, the phrase "Keep Pounding" Sam referenced several times during a half time speech when the Panthers made the playoffs while he was undergoing chemotherapy.

After he passed away, the Carolina Panthers, along with the Carolinas Medical center formed a foundation to honor Sam called "the Keep Pounding Foundation" to help raise money for cancer research, conducted by the Blumenthal Cancer Center at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC).

The foundation made bracelets similar to the Live strong bracelets with the saying "Keep Pounding" and the initials SM next to it, these bracelets have been sold throughout the Carolina's in memory of Sam Mills, Montclair State has partnered up with the foundation to help sell these bracelets in honor of our fallen brother....

These bracelets we be sold at tomorrow's game and throughout the year, at the conclusion of the football season which we hope will be the Stagg Bowl (fingers crossed) we will cut a check to the foundation and we are hoping it is a big one. The saying has so many meanings behind it, it goes well beyond the Montclair State/Carolina Pipeline.

A few of the coaches, staff, former and current players were at the Morristown 5k this summer sponsored by Verizon with a booth set up for the Keep Pounding Foundation, passing out information about the fund and Sam Mills, it moved me, to see the amount of people who knew him and spoke so highly of him, I don't know if there was ever a time I was more proud to say that I was (always will be) a RedHawk (the article is beneath)

If there is anyone who would like a bracelet please message me and I will certainly get one to you....

Go RedHawks
