Hey guys,

For all that are attending the Montclair State game tomorrow, while walking into the stadium you will see a few tables set up near the ticket booth. At those tables will be a Sam Mill's jersey, his helmet from Montclair State, Carolina Panthers and various pictures taken of him over the years, along with a big banner which says "Keep Pounding" Keep Pounding was a phrase made famous by Sam, the phrase "Keep Pounding" Sam referenced several times during a half time speech when the Panthers made the playoffs while he was undergoing chemotherapy.

After he passed away, the Carolina Panthers, along with the Carolinas Medical center formed a foundation to honor Sam called "the Keep Pounding Foundation" to help raise money for cancer research, conducted by the Blumenthal Cancer Center at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC).

The foundation made bracelets similar to the Live strong bracelets with the saying "Keep Pounding" and the initials SM next to it, these bracelets have been sold throughout the Carolina's in memory of Sam Mills, Montclair State has partnered up with the foundation to help sell these bracelets in honor of our fallen brother....

These bracelets we be sold at tomorrow's game and throughout the year, at the conclusion of the football season which we hope will be the Stagg Bowl (fingers crossed) we will cut a check to the foundation and we are hoping it is a big one. The saying has so many meanings behind it, it goes well beyond the Montclair State/Carolina Pipeline.

A few of the coaches, staff, former and current players were at the Morristown 5k this summer sponsored by Verizon with a booth set up for the Keep Pounding Foundation, passing out information about the fund and Sam Mills, it moved me, to see the amount of people who knew him and spoke so highly of him, I don't know if there was ever a time I was more proud to say that I was (always will be) a RedHawk (the article is beneath)

It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

West Conn loses 48-0 to SUNY-Maritime this evening.  Yah, nothing else seems easy on the schedule, could be another 0-10 season for us this year.

making the trip into njac country today to see wesley play kean.  saw that kean was picked to finish 4th in the njac this year.  what can i expect from them today?  checked out pictures of the facilities and they looked like they are top notch, plenty of seating for the visiting team.

Their QB is OK if kept in the pocket. Once he starts to scrampel then things open up for Kean. They never give up so don't let up. Their coach is an ex defensive star for Montclair. They avg score is 20 per game. If you get them down, keep them down and don't give them a second chance. They could bite you in the arz. Welcome to Jersey.

Watching a fantastic game on Kean video feed -

Wesley 28 Kean 24 - Kean driving with less than 2 minutes to play
Justin Bieber created 666 false D3 identities to give me negative karma.

Touchdown Kean!  31-28 Cougars with 1:18 to play.  Hard to think there is a better QB in the NJAC than D'Ambrisi.

Fumble recovered by Kean.  They will win 31-28.  As I said heading into the season, the Top 25 this season is probably going to see more movement than normal to start the year.  Never foresaw this, though.  Congrats to Kean.

Kean recovers a Wesley fumble - that will do it.

Kean with a huge win for their program, the NJAC, and all of Eastern Region.  Final - Kean 31 Wesley 28

Congrats to Kean.  Great for them and great for all of NJAC.  Cortland has much to prepare for.

A few years ago, I thought Coach Burrell had West Conn on the come.  He was getting some good players, and was playing playoff calibers team like Rowan in 2005 and 2006 tough.  And whenever I talked with him, he couldn't have been nicer.  For whatever reason, I think he's been having trouble attracting the talent to be competitive lately.

Sam Mills

Sam was not only a great player but one hell of a nice guy.  When I was a kid, I delivered a newspaper to his Montclair teammate and fellow linebacker Vince DeMarinis in my hometown.  They were training for the new USFL, both made the Philly Stars.  Both Sam and Vince would talk football with me, as I was getting ready to play another HS football season.  I learned  some moves from them.

I saw him at a signing in the 90's and he remembered me.  Total class.  They need to rename Sprague.  Football fields/stadiums are named after players or coaches.  The library is called Sprague, that's good enough... and he's worm food anyway, so he can't protest.  Google Harry A. Sprague or go the the MSU site and search... nothing... no bio... couldn't have been that important.  Except for being President of the school in 30's and 40's, there's nothing noteworthy on the web.

When Sam makes the Pro HOF, I will be there.  And I will ask Pat if he'll allow me the privilege of covering it for D3.
