Ready for some football?  Glad to be back.  Cortland scrimmaged Rochester yesterday.  Never know what to make of this as Rochester plays us with only 1 week of camp under their belts.  Cortland was dominant but you would expect them to be.  I don't know what Rochester gets out of scrimmaging that early.  They weren't good so I don't know how good Cortland is.  I did observe that the QB play was pretty solid.  Chris Rose will start but two pretty solid back-ups.  RBs....we are deep.  Autera, Miles, Green the top 3 with some good young backs under them.  Defensively, new kid at safety looked really good.  don't have names as the roster isn't out yet.  some young kids really flying to the ball.  Dline looks pretty solid.  I think the keys will be OL health as we aren't deep, QB play and secondary.  this could be a pretty good team but can't judge from this scrimmage.  Good luck all.

Yeah the UofR is pretty clueless when it comes to football...

With MSU we will find out early how the season will be. Lebanon Valley and Salve Regina were picked pretty high in their preseason polls. Besides the o-line being a question mark, the WR position I think is even a bigger concern. On the Defense, the secondary looks to be very young. The front 7 should be fine. Special teams is going to be interesting in seeing how they replace both the kicker, punter and snapper.

Kean 8-2        Losses at Mary Hardin Baylor and Rowan
Cortland 9-1   Losses at Kean
Montclair 7-3   Losses at Salve Regina, Cortland and Kean
Rowan 7-3      Losses Del Val, Montclair and Cortland
TCNJ 6-4        Losses Cortland, Montclair and Kean (these are played 3 in a row, very tough) and Rowan
Brockport 5-5
Willy P 5-5
Morrisville 3-7
West Conn 0-9

Dark Horse is TCNJ. Out of the 4 losses I predict only MSU is on the road so they could surpirse and easily end up 9-1. I think Brockport could turn the league upside down if its defense plays as good as its offense.

So Kean gets the automatic with Cortland getting an at large bid. No #1 seed coming out of the NJAC this year.

Gotta disagree a little. Everyone kows that I'm a big time Montclair Homer and I have not been happy with our "O" coordinater for years. The most predictable offensive team in D3 Football. That being said I feel we can win our OC games. Yes I am nervous with Leb Val but we should prevail. We are due to win one in Cortland. Two years ago we dominated the 1st half then played not to lose. >:( Typical. I still can't get last years loss to Kean out of my system. That being said, running the table could be a possibility provided we play 110-60 and "Keep Pounding". It's time for everyone to step it up on and off the field (Coaches and Players). We will all know more on Saturday night.

LET'S  GO  MIGHTY  RED  HAWKS  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cortland loses '11 leading receiver and scorer J. Babin for considerable part of '12 season. Suffers broken collarbone in scrimmage with Rochester.

As previous poster states, RDragons dominate. UR fails to score against rebuilding CState guard. Meanwhile, RDragons post many points. C. Rose handles qb role well backed by T. Augliano. RB J. Autera healthy again and '11 leader D. Myles returns as does B. Greene. Vet receivers M Humphrey and K. McInnis ease Babin's loss. Scoring twice on lengthy plays was RB newcomer M. Deiana, former UConn walk-on. Plenty of other fresh faces showed promise.

If the Deiana kid is the former Somers High rb, then Cortland scored another great back.  He was tough to stop in his HS days.

One and the same ....... scored on 70 yard screen pass and kickoff return

Deiana was quite impressive.  He's a 5'8" keg of dynamite.  I understand that he may be the strongest kid on the team.

The Babin injury is a big loss but Cortland should have the best running attack in the NJAC with Autera returning and the transfer from UCONN along with the other 2 backs who saw plenty of time last year. I still see Cortland as a top 3 team competing for the conference title.

Overall I think this year is a very wide open race.

I think we will see every team tested in Week 1 with the MAC-NJAC challenge along with Cortland at Buff State who I think will be an improved team over last year's finish.

I think Cortland is going to be really good. I was thinking 8-2 worst case prior to the Babin injury, and even then, I think 7-3 would be bottoming out. I think the NJAC is too tough for them to run the table, but 9-1 is quite possible, if they get solid QB play (or are able to minimize the need for it through the running game and defense)

Great story on Cortland LB John Stephens saving a little girl's life by being a bone marrow donor:

Plans are in the works to have the girl and her family meet John in October - probably the Oct. 13 weekend when the Red Dragons host Brockport.
