I attended the Brockport/Lycoming game on Saturday and just thought I'd share observations for those interested. Their offense looked pretty good and they have good size across the offensive line that dominated a smaller Lycoming front. They had a 19-play drive in the first half but only came away with a field goal. They put the game away with two impressive drives to open the second half. The quarterback is a three-year starter and executed the the offense well. Both running backs are solid as are the receivers.

The defense shut down an offense that was missing its starting quarterback. Lyco could not run the ball at all. That allowed them to pressure the quarterback with a variety of blitzes. They stepped up and stuffed Lyco both times they were in Eagle territory in the first half.

Their biggest weakness was the punt game. The punter dropped a snap out of the end zone for the Warriors only points. He also had a punt of minus-five yards (there was no wind .)

At any rate, I think they could be a dark horse in the NJAC, but I guess this week's game vs. Buff State will be interesting.

Veteran, experienced Buff St. offense exploited a young, inexperienced Cortland defense .........bigtime. Get a kid who can throw in D3 play and you're going to be a team to watch!!  Buffs have that and at least one talented runner, plus an outstanding skipper. J. Boyes in his second term has quickly put the Bengals back on the map. Had them on the rise in his first go-round ...... then had health issues and took a break. Interestingly, he was nearly the Cortland hire in '86 when D. Kayser got the nod instead and quickly revived the Red Dragons' program. Boyes was CState's second choice. Wound up at the budding BS program and soon brought it to respectability. And now ......Bengals are baaaack!!

JDEX..... The BENGALS are truely back!!!! I was at the game Saturday and the scary thing is that the final score really should have been 49-24. Replay on campus yesterday showed CSU Humphreys entire forearm on the ground when he rolled on top of  his defender and popped back up for his 78 yarder in the 2nd half vs. my beloved BENGALS!

Coupled with the fact that ...
1st year player, Ryan Carney - 12 catches  242 yards and 2 t.d's, was named to the D3Football.com national team of the week. He is actually a basketball recruit, having played hoops that past 2 seasons at Jamestown C.C.. He hasn't played football since the fall of 2009 (Olean H.s.).

and he wasn't even the BUFFALO STATE Athelete of the week!!!!!!!

That honor went to Q.B. Casey Kacz  - 30 of 42 for a school record 579 yards and 5 t.d.'s.

So far Boyes hard work "looks" like it's beginning to pay off (started last year). Big test at Eunice Shriver Stadium next week vs. Brockport! A 2-0 start would be great before they travel cross country to play the D3 Defending National Champs Wisconsin - Whitewater in their banner raising Home opener!!!  Methinks that the NJAC is glad the BENGALS moved to the E8! ;)

...and with Salisbury & Fisher on your schedule methinks you wish you stayed in the NJAC too! Especially after the collective egg Cortland, TCNJ, Montclair & Kean laid in their season openers!  ;D

You think wrong my friend! Head Coach/Ahthletic director - Jerry Boyes knew what he was getting into when he left the NJAC. We all coach D3 for an opportunity to win the "Chip". Tougher competition, better quality of wins... hopefully it all helps get 1 into the postseason. Where that coveted "Chip" lies at the end.

After the way Buff State dispatched NJAC pre-season favorite Cortland last Saturday, fear of Salisbury or Fisher is the farthest thing from the BENGAL faithful. Heck next week the BENGALS will prepare to fly to Wisconsin - Whitewater to face the Defending D3 Champ in their home opener. And you want us to worry about Salisbury? I doubt it!!

We will worry about Salisbury on Sept 29th. And whatever happens will happen. Boyes has Buff State believing that any opponent is beatable. You can't just talk about it though! After all thats why they play the game!   Methinks!!

Gotta go. Bill is getting ready to speak! :D

Not a bad post, but you forgot about B-Port this week. One game at a time. ;)

Nope. I could never forget our next opponent but the response was to BENGALS schedule/opposition for 2012. Just responding to that. I'll be at our arch-rivals field this Sat! ;)

dlippiel

Dlip is really pulling for Rowan and Kean today. To dlip, Kean has the bigger challenge ahead of them and he is hoping they can keep it respectable.

It's hard to figure some of these D2 teams. I do not think Rowan would schedule a game that they didn't think they had a chance plus beating De-Val they should come away with a win. If they do, they will be a force in the NJAC this year. Gez I can't believe I'm saying this. Gotta go to confession. ;D I honestly think that Kean is not as good as last year. The loss of their QB was huge. I will be a long day, but should build character. Then everyone starts fresh in the NJAC.

Tell me about Salve. Montclair is in a real state of confusion. The "O" coordinator is killing us and has been for years. Now the talent level is not as high as previous years. No room for screw-ups. Everyone knows what we are doing on "O" and have been for years. Now we have a mobile QB (I like the kid) and hope he just tells them to F off and audible when it dictates. I thought you guys would have beat them. What happened. I know we should win by (10) and start playing well, but at the same time it could be a long day. ::) Good luck to Union.

To fans of D-3 football everywhere.  I am honored to have been asked to spread the word regarding a new cancer fund that has been established to help Tom Pattison, UW-W sports broadcaster and founder of www.warhawkfootball.com    I and my family know, all to well, how a cancer diagnosis can be devastating to a families daily lives and finances. Please, consider making even the smallest donation to Tom.

The following is an open letter by Retired UW-W Coach Bob Berezowitz:

Team Tom Cancer Fund Drive established

Once a Warhawk, always a Warhawk are the often spoken words by Tom Pattison, longtime "voice" of the Warhawks. Over the many years of broadcasting UW-Whitewater football, basketball and baseball games on KOOL 106.5 (and prior to that (940 WFAW), Tom has "bled purple" during each one of his broadcasts.

Unfortunately, on May 28, 2012 Tom was diagnosed with advanced stage 2 colon cancer. He underwent colorectal cancer surgery in Fort Atkinson and in the process has developed astronomical hospital and medical bills.

Tom has already gone through the first phase of radiation treatment at the UW Cancer Clinic along with chemotherapy with phase two starting later this month.

Tom has given his heart and soul to Warhawk athletics over his 25 years of living here in southern Wisconsin. He served six years as the president of the UW-Whitewater Quarterback Club and still serves on the club's board of directors.

In 2003 Tom founded Warhawkfootball.com where Warhawk fans, players, former players and parents have been able to view up-to-date Warhawk football news and information 365 days a year. Nearly 1.5 million visitors have clicked onto the Website over the years.

The Website that has been funded entirely by Tom has been a popular "voice" for Warhawk football fans not only locally but around the world.

Well now Tom needs your assistance in his battle with cancer.

With the help and leadership of UW-Whitewater Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Paul Plinke and former Warhawk football coach Bob Berezowitz and KOOL 106.5 Radio a team has been set up to lead a campaign to raise funds for Tom.

The "Team Tom Cancer Fund" has been established through Commercial Bank in Whitewater and is now accepting donations.

Donations may be sent to: Team Tom Cancer Fund, c/o Commercial Bank, 200 South Freemont St. Whitewater, WI 53190

The fund raising drive will also include Tom Pattison Day at Perkins Stadium on Oct. 6, 2012. More details will be announced shortly.

"I have known Tom for many years while coaching and now in retirement," Berezowitz said. "There is not another person who has given more of himself to help promote UW-Whitewater football. He is always writing articles for both past and present players that are published on his Website.

It is now our turn to say "thank you" for his efforts by considering making a donation to the to assist Tom in his time of need.

Go Warhawks,
Bob Berezowitz

I think that it is definitely a rebuilding year for the Red Hawks. Last week we won the battle of the time of possession and total yards. Gave me hope. Not so this week. As a die hard fan we will go undefeated in the NJAC, most likely not, but a chance. I'll be there next week when we play M-Ville. Boy do we need a monkey stomp. Will we do it? ::)

Let's  Go  Mighty  Red  Hawks  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

NJAC a combined 5-10 (OOC) to start the season.  Doesn't bode well already for a second team to the NCAA.  Some worthy opponents for sure but some not.  Good start by Brockport.  I think Cortland has to run the table and after our poor showing at Buff St., I am not so confident that will happen.  At least we will have had two weeks to get rid of the stink and should be able to get past W.Conn and Mville.  Go Red Dragons.

redhawks

It seems like a down year in the NJAC. Brockport looks to be a team that has finally put it together. Their game vs TCNJ this week will show which team is for real. Rowan losing to a D2 school is not a huge hit. Their game vs WPU this week should be a tough game for both. WPU does play a favorable schedule. I still think Kean is a top team in the league. Their 0-2 start is not a huge suprise. They will be in it in the end. Only hope for a 1 seed would be Brockport running the table. Cortland gets West Conn and Morrisvlle so we won't know for a few weeks how good they really are.

Onto MSU. I don't think the Hawks can run the NJAC table. Their offense can't do much unless it has talented players. Not to offend this years players. With a step down in talent the offense you would think would change to make up for that talent gap but we all know that hasn't happened and will never happen. Teams change their offenses all the time to fit their players but MSU has been lucky in getting great players over the years but I think that has come down a level with the emergence of the Kean program and how Del Val and Wesley raid NJ for players. Hawks have a MUST win vs Morrisville this week. If they somehow lose this one they could finish around 3-7 because their season would be tough to go on with. I see them winning 24-14 and finishing around 5-5 this year. They will split Cortland and Willy P(both are away which will be tough), split Rowan and TCNJ and split Brockport and Kean.

Ex D3 Athlete

Kean Cougars will be looking for REDEMPTION this Sat against The College of Brockport!
We will be @ home & this is our NJAC opener so I expect us to play with URGENCY!
I'm sure TCoB will have a chip on their shoulders as well so hopefully we had a great week of practice!

Goooooo Cougars!!!!!  :D

phil

Kean should be able to run up and down the field and pass all over Brockport at home this weekend ... especially since Brockport is playing at home against TCNJ this Saturday. Next weekend, when Brockport actually shows up to play at Kean, might be another story.

Rowan up 24-0 mid. 2nd qtr.. close to 125 yrds. rushing to this point! 8-)
