Interesting...

Seeing the demographics of Wesley's attendance would answer a lot of questions I have. It's such a dominant program, I wonder if those attending are mostly students/parents and family/alumni/locals.

CNU gets some nice attendance, and I have the same questions that I have for Wesley.

The New Jersey schools don't surprise me. I spent the first twenty-some odd years of my life in Jersey, and I never really thought there was much support for the D3 programs.

My biggest question is, why is Salisbury's attendance is so low? And maybe the new stadium/field/complex can rectify that - since they are a good program.

It is actually straight across the board from what I see.  I think it is a good mixture of all three.  I have a buddy that just started to show up at the games one day.  He was a season ticket holder for the Delaware Blue Hens and quit on them to go to Wesley games instead.  He felt it was cheaper and he got a better game to watch.  Some of the other "locals" once had a son or nephew that played for Wesley years ago and they continue to go to the games.  I started out as a local when I was still in the USAF here at Dover.  My wife and I would walk past the football field on our walks and I couldn't figure out why I wasn't going to the games. I was hooked from the start.

I wish we had more support/attendance from the locals personally.  Wesley continues to be a relative unknown here in Dover.  When I explain that Wesley is elite, I get that blank stare......

Do people ask you if they would beat a good high school team?  That's my favorite question from people asking me about the caliber of D3 football.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

I love that one. Get that all the time down here in Alabama where every h.s. kid is on his way to Alabama or Auburn. I just laugh and say if your kid wasn't some version of all county/region, he probably isn't good enough to play in DIII without a big jump forward over his next couple years. Since only a few kids per team make all-county, they don't usually believe me. I also point out that DIII teams have 18/19/20/21 year olds playing special teams versus the local h.s. with 15-18 year olds. How do they think that will work out?

I definitely get the cheaper aspect, but the CAA is no joke.  That's really good football.  I got to see a W&M playoff game a handful of years ago and was really impressed at the level of play happening there and in particular the enormous difference between top 25-ish FCS and the tippy top of D3...sometimes we in D3 get a little chesty about how good the very top teams in our division are.  The top of D3 gets destroyed by those teams, without question.  Like, not even close.

I like that question too. The problem around here (in the 757) is that we have some really top high school teams and their fans think they could even beat some D1 schools. And the USA South had some really bad football teams. I would have loved to have taken a loaded Phoebus or Hampton High team against some of the lower tiers of USA South...just to prove the point that D3 is NOT High School Part 2.

I haven't had that question aired to me yet.  All I need to do is mention that Varsity Jacket Johnny can't match up to a D3 player who happened to bulk up in the weight room all spring and summer while sharpening his on-field skills instead of schmoozing Charlize Cheerleader.  Add to that a Junior or Senior that has dedicated his life to the sport for the past 12+ years.  You cannot touch that kind of experience.  It would have to take a really good high school team to compete with a D3 team at even the lower levels.

Thanks Wally

I lived in Newark Delaware for 10 years, and my wife is a Delaware grad...I liked them a lot, and used to go to many games, until Mr. Keeler came to town...
I still watched (AK after Keeler) but would only go to home playoff games...and you're right...as much as I love D3,  99.5% of the time, the grade of athlete is much higher...

Crabbing season?

I live in Orange County CA and after having seen a great Mater Dei or Long Beach Poly team I have played the comparison game with LINFIELD in my head - briefly.

Those great H.S. teams had 1-2 D1 linemen and some future NFL speed. My conclusion was LINFIELD would shut down their strengths while throwing stuff a 19 year old player in high school wouldn't see coming.

Montclair this weekend in Montclair! Looking for a clean game. This team will be dangerous if and when they can put it all together. Wesley leads this weeks D3 poll in terms of "most overrated" at 23% of the vote. UWW is second with 20%. Not that it means anything, but I think Wesley always winds up right where they need to be at the end of the year (contending with the best). This year will be no exception.

Next week's game against Salisbury will answer a lot of questions.
