Walla Walla...very brave to come on here.
Please note applause to smite ratio.

No injuries to the purple people but, please, feel free to wear each other out.

Dad:   Mount is good.  Really good.  But I have 3 concerns with this team that when/if they lose, I assume this will be the reason.

1.  D-line is athletic but under sized as most Mount lines are.  They've dominated bad to average teams.  What happens when they see the size/strength of a WIAC caliber O-line?  Recent history doesn't bode well.

2.  Ditto for the running game.  This team is more run heavy than most,  hit can they do it against a really good D-line?  Don't know yet because they haven't played against one this season.

3.  Second point leads me to my biggest concern.    Can Scott complete enough passes in crunch time when needed?
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

To beat them, make one of the above items turn into the difference or play clean.  Limit stupid penalties,  especially on offense that would kill a frive, and make plays when they present them.  Opportunities will be there, just not enough of them to squander.

I don't worry so much about 1 and 2. They have enough weapons around the run game - and enough run game weapons - to get yards. #3 is my concern. I have seen Scott make a great throw, follwed by a few stinkers, or escape and scramble (making you scratch your head and wonder 'how in the he!! did he get out of that' and then miss a wide open guy or toss an INT. For me Scott is the great unknown.

I see Hopkins fell for a simple running back motion out of the backfield/wheel pattern.

Man that has to sting the DC for Hopkins.

Wesley's #88 has to be one of the best, if not the best, receiver(s) in the country.

Not saying he isn't but he is #2 in terms of stats for his team. On the other hand #88 from Linfield (in the video) looks really good. ;)

Wesley does have a real stable full of playmakers on offense, and a whole bunch of those guys - Callahan, Shade, Baynard, George - were all major contributors in the crazy 2013 comeback almost-win at Mount (Baynard had three touchdowns, Shade had two touchdowns, George had 74 receiving yards).  That has to count for something, right?  All of the dudes handling the ball for Wesley on Saturday have dented the Mount defense before, even if it was a different defense in 2013 than it is today.  Those guys should remember what it was like to actually compete with Mount Union, once upon a time.

Of course...the same was true last year, they got absolutely torched, and I'm having a really hard time getting past that.  But if Wesley has any shot at all on Saturday, it has to be at least in part because they're taking along a whole bunch of guys who a) have been to Alliance twice for playoff games and b) remember that 2013 game and c) have convinced themselves that the 2014 game was a fluke that got away from them (I don't necessarily think that's what actually happened - I think Mount just plain beat the heck out of them - but that's what Wesley has to convince themselves) and they're capable of competing like they did in 2013.  By all accounts the 2015 Mount defense is light-years better than the 2013 Mount defense, so I don't think they can count on coming back from a 31-0 hole.  Maybe, just maybe, one of those dudes listed above will make a play or two early and remind themselves that they can play on that field.

Dlip believes that offense is flat out impressive! When Callhan jumped the pile palming the ball and didn't fumble...holy ****!

Thanks dlip.  Have always enjoyed your pleasant attitude as well.

I don't think Wesley can do it - if you asked me to name the score, I'm picking something like Mount 52, Wesley 14 - in part because of how ugly it got last year and in part because I think this year's Mount team is even better than last year, while I'm not sure this year's Wesley team (especially the defense) is any better than last year.  But Wesley does have the guys on offense to make this interesting, if the guys who showed up for the 2013 game show up instead of the guys who showed up for the 2014 game and, MORE IMPORTANTLY, if the Wesley OL doesn't get killed by the Mount DL (bigger problem).  Shade, Okike, Baynard, George...those guys are good enough to win against the Mount secondary and LB's.  But will the OL be able to give Callahan enough time to find them?  Will they be able to get Baynard going on the ground at all?

Coach, thanks again.  I agree with this.  Can the O line get in the way long enough to let something positive happen.  In 2013 it was ugly early and then Callahan moved around and totally exposed a weak secondary.  Can it happen again?  Of course it can.  Will it, we will find out Saturday.  I am more in the 70/30 range now for going to the game.  Just getting a feeling that it won't be a wasted trip.  Well, it never is a wasted trip to chat with the many Mount fans that I have met over the years, that is always a pleasure, but I just think that the game may be better than most think.  If not, then the 6 hour ride back home will be a long one like last year.

2009 24 - 7
2011 28 - 21
2013 62 - 59
2014 70 - 21

4 results of Wesley/Mount games.  One blowout, 2 very competitive games, and the first one where Wesley got as far as they were going to get and the first time at Mount.  So, if you throw out last years game it looks like Wesley can compete with Mount.  Question is, Was last years game a fluke? or can we expect more of the same.  HMMMM?

PA_wesleyfan

As I stated before. If Wesley can get by the first quarter without things going off the rail l think they can compete. If Wesley  goes 5 wide Callahan will get the ball out quickly. Coach Knapp could choose to open things up with those wideout screens to see if Mount can match speed Shade,Okikie and Kemp and if Baynard and Callahan  can get serious tough yards early that will help for sure. I know that's  a lot of ifs but Wesley has the weapons.
