tough loss, but not a very good game on offense.  Need to have better idea of what may work.  No change in game plan.  Defense played the best they have all year and O comes up empty.  2 chances for the East, 2 tier teams to make a statement and Wesley and Hopkins come up empty.  John Carroll is not that good, but D is really good.  Wesley had chances, but took no gambles and ended up with a loss.  Shame.

Johns Hopkins is a south region team, but yes...both squandered opportunities.

Tough loss for Wesley, this was a winnable game today....you really missed Callahan this year  as offense played with desperation in OT.....incredible 47 yard FG to keep hope alive.......defense played great all game except for that last OT TD....nice run since the 1-2 start to the season

It was really considering another loss would have cut the season short.

The few opportunities Wesley has they missed. Dropped passes and a missed field goal. I think the offense, especially the o line, got exposed. JCUs defense is the best Wesley has played all year, but not championship caliber IMO.

The defense played really well up til the end and took advantage of an average JCU offense.

One day later and still not happy with the outcome, but in the end this is a top 16 football team that was a blocked field goal away from beating the team that beat Mount and moving on to face UWW.  The O line needs to improve and seems to be the biggest issue each year when they reach the top level of D3.  Falkenberg will improve and they have a nice running back ready to go and will still be loaded at receiver.  There are enough returning D starters to continue to be a top team in the NJAC and the nation.  Will they ever get to the top level and reach the Stagg, who knows, but the teams have been pretty darn good lately and they have not made it yet.  The nice thing about it is that each year I know I will be going to see some pretty good football games and watching a very good team play each week.  Congrats to another fine year and looking forward to how next year plays out.

With all due respect to Alfred, I'd give the Lambert to the Wolverines. They obviously missed Callahan but came on hot late and probably were the best team in the East at season's end b/c of it. Would have loved to have seen them play Hobart.

Congrats to Wesley. With this being a "down" year by many standards for the program, they still did pretty well considering where they started. The result still hurts though... not only a missed field goal, but a dropped pass would have also been the winner at JCU. It is the first time Wesley has failed to reach the quarterfinals since 2008. That year was also the last year Wesley failed to win at least 10 games.

I was also looking forward to beating the UWW guys to a KABOOM! You know that was coming to the NJAC board if Wesley had snuck out with a W.  ;D

We will miss guys like Bryce Shade and Jamar Baynard on offense, but this year I really felt that there wasn't an individual on offense that had that "it" factor that could take over a game when thing were going south. Wesley has usually had at least 1 or 2 guys that could do that every year. Callahan, the Shade-Okike-Kemp combo last year, Koudossou, McSweeny, Krout, etc etc. I would say Baynard, but his effectiveness was limited by the offensive line, and the loss of James Okike took away a large receiving threat this year allowing more teams to focus on containing Kemp and Shade.

Congrats to Wesley fans. A slow start, but quickly fixed.

Thanks! I had almost forgotten about Koudossu and the WRMU play-by-play guy "Callhan somehow finds Koudossou....again". It was even better when he added "we should really cover that guy".

Notice on the play of the week for John Carroll, that there was an illegal lineman down field.

Nice catch. They didn't call a hold on the previous play (an 11-yard gain on a screen) either, but that's playoff football. No complaining, Wesley had it's chances.

I mentioned this in an earlier post that they are really going to have to do something about watching the O-lineman on RPO plays. Lineman are down field all the time now. It really screws up the linebackers reads.

It's tough to tell on this play because the interior lineman appear to be blocking run but the receivers appear to be running routes.

Moving the ball past the first down marker after it had been spotted on what should have been 4th and short was bad though.

As was mentioned before, the winning TD pass had an illegal pick that should have been called.

You're not counting the tight end, are you? Because it looked like all linemen are within 5 yards of the LOS when the ball was thrown (and I believe the player in question is wearing #15)

#68 for JCU is clearly 4 yards downfield when the ball is thrown.  Usually refs will give you 2 yards forward, but this was a penalty.
