QuoteAs we know Wesley has been known to start slow, most loses in the first week or 2 until playoff time.  The Del Val game will be a good one, nice Thursday night game for me to get to.  The rest of the month is fix and refine time and then the season gets good.

A very good point!  Went to the Packers-Redskins game on Saturday.   Joe Callahan played in the 3rd quarter as usual.  He had a quiet game of it.  Hundley, the 1st back-up played the first half and first series in the 3rd and what I think  should have been Callahan's reps.  Hall (from BYU) played really well in the 4th.  I got the honor of meeting Joe's mom when her friends saw my Reggie White Packers jersey married to a Wesley Football baseball cap.  I am sure she is extremely proud of her son.  I know I am!  The season is about on top of us!

Had a good time on the Frostburg State campus -- hadn't been there in at least a decade. Here was the final scheduled On the road segment:

Good stuff Pat! I just watched the last two clips. Am really looking forward to Kickoff tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to seeing CNU in action this season....anxious, excited, worried. So many unknowns! Eagerly waiting for the updated roster. I'm hoping to make a few road trips this year since I am not teaching this semester at CNU. I need a break!

At first glance, it would seem the most difficult part of Wesley's schedule is going to come at the back-end of the season. After an early challenge at Del Val (#20), the month of September consists of TCNJ, Willy P, and SoVa. IMO no real threat after those 3 til you get to October vs Frostburg. Frostburg-Stevenson I think will be a telling game for them early.

Yeah, I don't like dips like that during the season.  A more consistent level of competition is a far better thermometer of playoff readiness IMHO and makes Wesley less likely to hiccup.

Here's an interesting stat: Since 2006, in weeks 1-4 of the regular season, Wesley has gone 33-7 (.825). In weeks 5-10 of the regular season they are 56-3 (.949).

For weeks 1-4: two of those 7 losses were in week 1 (both Del Val actually), there have been 3 in week 3.
For weeks 5-10: Wesley has lost to Rowan (2013), Charlotte (2014) and Salisbury (2015).

As Pep always says at this time of year or when he instinctively knows the SAXONS are about to score...."Get the fight song ready!"

The band always yells back, "IT'S ALWAYS READY!"
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

I figured that it's time to start some discussion on this weeks games. On the early games I have Wesley, Frosty and the Gulls all -3.5. What's everyone's thoughts? The other games are also up for discussion.

QB play is going to be critical if Wesley wants to beat Del Val. Last year I think Wesley threw 4-5 interceptions combined... Wesley returns a bunch of playmakers on offense (plus a guy named James Okike), but its time to see how much Falkenberg has progressed. I'm also going to keep an eye on the o-line. JCU really kind of exposed it in the playoffs last year IMO.

The Frostburg game will be interesting. I like Stevenson though. As a Wesley fan, Frostburg has never really impressed me, although it seems that Frostburg has quite a bit coming back this season.

Just a few days away from a season that will be interesting to say the least. I truly do not know what to expect to see when CNU takes the field. Anticipation!

Check in if you're lurking...we'd like to make sure you're ok.  Houston is a long way from the NJAC but we don't forget our brothers in Texas!  Especially now.

Interesting game for Wesley with Del Val tomorrow.  Seems like strength against strength, Wesley O vs. Del Val D.  Del Val won last year with their D playing outstanding game.  Wesley will have to avoid turnovers to win this game.  Will be watching the O line to see if they can open up the needed holes for the new running backs.  Figure on a slightly different scheme since they do not have the bruiser Baynard.  Will keep an eye on the linebackers to see if they have improved and if the D backs are more aggressive in coverage, taking away the dink and dunk stuff that kills Wesley.  Wesley needs to start the year off with a good win.

Ditto's from me. Hope you and the family have survived Harvey. When I heard Thousand Oaks I thought of you. I pray you are well and on a side note I took TCNJ straight and spread against FDU in my pool. Dave !!!
