I was surprised as everyone else when Poorman let fly that last pass for a score. However, it follows a similar pattern for out of hand Mount games. During the early regular season the firsts typically get pulled after their first second half score. As season goes on it moves a little later (2nd series, etc..). When it went to 4th I expected another score and then pull em - the pass was a surprise however.

Having said that - you wanna blast away cause they passed when the game was over then fine. But Frostburgs HC and team were not playing like it was over. Calling time outs to extend drives late with the backups in. Bobcats got a 4th qtr TD with their starters on Mounts reserves, and then one really late with both reserve units in...and used 2 TO on the drive. If the game is over - its over for both teams so blast the Bobcats for "continuing to try???" ???

Liked your last post. That's the type I'm used to reading from you. And I always read your "stuff".
I know you aren't usually hostile or in a seemingly bad mood. Gee, I still think you're "swell".
Thanks big guy (or little guy or even medium guy, whichever fits since I don't really know you).
I'll keep reading your views and opinions.
Almost forgot - Go Purple Raiders.

Dlip thanks you! +k. Sometimes he is off base.

Mount Union showing class by running up the score as usual.  I don't know of any other team that would throw a bomb after being ahead by forever.  Really impressive. Not.  You don't have to do that to show how good you are.

St. Thomas did it to St. John Fisher in 2011.  They were running trick plays late in the 4th, fake punt, and airing it out...all when the game was in hand.  Their fans were fun too.

St. Thomas ran 10 plays in the fourth quarter of that game, all with the backup quarterback. There are no fake punts in the fourth quarter of that game -- unless they fake punted on third down, perhaps. On fourth down, they only punted or kicked a field goal.

It was a fake field goal up 35-10 in the 4th.  A million apologies for saying punt.

The combination of score and situation you cite doesn't seem to exist in this fourth quarter:
http://www.d3football.com/seasons/2011/boxscores/20111203_6fw3.xml?view=plays#qtr4

Is this a fake field goal? It was the first drive of the third quarter.

3rd and 2 at FISHER14   Dakota Tracy pass incomplete.
4th and 2 at FISHER14   Ricky Margarit rush for loss of 2 yards to the FISHER16 (Zach Dolan).
9 plays, 41 yards, 03:48 elapsed

Refer to my most recent post in the E8 updates since for whatever reason you feel as though i'm making things up.  Love when you play board police though.

I will say I can't recall the timing of third or 4th.  It's just getting away from the original point of St. Thomas doing more than they probably needed to with a game at hand.

Is board police a more or less advanced position than policing what an opponent does on the 1st drive of the 3rd quarter, in an attempt to get a 1st down and run more time off the clock (Brockport might tell you about how that is pretty valuable).

Comes with the territory. I think you've been around long enough to see me fact-check before. If you want to call someone out, there's probably factual stuff you could use instead of six-year-old recollections that anyone can easily check.

Yes, it was an egregious and irredeemable error that totally demeaned the entire point I was making.  I watched the game Pat.  I remember a few instances of them doing what was perceived as a bit much considering the circumstances of said game.  A similar claim was just made against Mount Union and I was relating.  A trick play, airing it out with a minute to go in the game and the other team already sitting comfortably in monkey stomp territory, things like that.

The original statement I was making isn't without merit.  I didn't fabricate hard feelings out of left field.

Poorman hadnt played a meaningful down all year, the late pass was good practice for him. Mount has to worry about doing what's in their best interest before worrying about the other team.

MRMIKESMITH

Let me chime in on the discussion regarding Frostburg. Frostburg displayed the same "antics" they did during the matchup against Mount as they did during the Regents Cup game. With that said, could not care less what they do before the game to hype themselves up, just as long as it isn't egregious. Now regarding this past weeks game, Mount has the right to do whatever they want during the game, if that's scoring 70, 40, or 100 so be it. Frostburg success this season was stopping the rush and getting pressure with only 4 rushers, when they couldn't do that against a well coach Mount team, the talented receivers that Mount  embarrassed them. I say kudos to Mount O-Line. I think Mount has a great offense with a solid defense. As we have mentioned on this board, Frostburg offense was always "meh" nothing great, but balanced when able to run. It took them 2 OTs to score 14 against us.

Wesley and Callahan did a similar thing to Hobart in 2014. They were up 34-13 and passed for a TD with 3 mins left.  Could have just run out clock or kicked, but they kept passing.

For what it's worth, MTU scored their last points at 13:10 in the fourth quarter.  They were up 63-24 at the time so the Coach in me says they didn't have to throw a 57 yard pass with their starters up 39 points in the 4th quarter.  If I am the opposing coach, I'm fine with backups in, running the base offense.

It's harder now days for Spread Teams to go vanilla and run the clock out.  Everything is based off reads, and what the defense gives you.  But you can coach your kids to take the foot of the pedal and make sure you are substituting liberally.  It's also the playoffs and the rosters are limited and with Fulford on the bench (coach's decision) then there are less players to sub in.
