Everyone be prepared for yet another soaked weekend in the east. Looks like Dorian will turn and head north. Arrival time.....about game time Saturday. Let's hope it keeps turning out to sea.
It seems most years there's always one weekend where a tropical storm/hurricane meshes with the weather on game day. I think you guys got washed one weekend last year. I recall the 08 season where Wesley was supposed to open at CNU but that got washed out due to a hurricane too.

Wesley will be further north that first weekend thankfully against Franklin Pierce.

Hoping this hurricane doesn't get too close and they shut the campus down and thus the game is cancelled. Right now we are in the cone and expecting 90mph winds on Friday. That's enough to close campus by Wednesday night and evacuate Thursday. Yep. That wiped out our game against Frostburg last year even though it was an away game. When campus is closed all activities are cancelled. Stay tuned.
Hope you guys get it in! NC is a good opponent, and I definitely recommend the return trip to Naperville next year.

Here's a way too early (and way too short) analysis of Wesley's opening matchup against Franklin Pierce. Franklin Pierce is D2 this year, transitioning from sprint football. They dont have an updated roster online yet... and I can't imagine the Wesley coaches have a ton of reliable film to go off of (if any). So that aspect of the game will be interesting. It may take some time for the teams to feel each other out, but I expect Wesley to come out on top. They return a ton of skill players on offense. Defense will be interesting. I think they return a lot of pieces as well. Obviously you lose Cappadonna Miller and Dequay Harris-Winbush in the secondary, and Vincent Ebron on the D-line, but other than that, the unit remains intact.

Everyone will be watching that QB situation for Wesley. Marrocco and Mullin would seem to be the frontrunners for the job based on seniority. Wagenhoffer, a sophomore, and freshman Drew Fry, could be relevant also. Whoever is under center, they will have to be able to get the ball to their skill guys, who are just as good as any other year... or so it seems.

Heard some about the Wesley-Albright scrimmage as well. The final was 27-20 Wesley, but my source told me if it were a real game it'd be your typical monkey stomp in favor of Wesley. Always hard to tell with scrimmages... Not too clear on how the QBs did.

UMHB opens against Albright in week 2. Last year we put 90+ on them. We'll see how it goes this year. We lost a lot on offense, so we'll see. I don't expect a huge difference, but it will be nice to see new faces do things.

Better be careful. Keep putting 90+ on teams might find you in jeopardy of being St. Thomasized.  ;)

Good thing our game is on Friday night in Pennsylvania.

Things have changed since my post. Looks like it will head off the coast after touching NC slightly. We will get rain and wind Thursday and Friday. Game time should be good on Saturday.

I see where CNU is one of only 29 D3 teams with a grass field. Something we don't see in the CCIW.
With Dorian in the vicinity it stands to reason the field will get a thorough drenching Thurs and/or Fri.
Hopefully, it is well covered/protected least it be quickly turned into a quagmire Sat.

For any CNU and other fans who might be interested, there is a nice game preview on the NCC Football web page. Just bring up the North Central College Football schedule and click on Preview.
Lots of stuff on the Cardinals and also some CNU players mentioned. 2 Deeps for both teams.

The field usually holds up pretty well. And since this is the first game to be played on it, it should be good to go. We are "only" expecting 3-5" of rain. I sat in a game once during a tropical depression when it literally rained 10" during the 3 hour game . Players were standing on the sidelines (with a track) in water past their ankles. I sat in the stands the entire time. I was soaked to say the least. We won!!!!  ;D ;D

Safe travels to your guys tonight. Also, thanks for the preview info. I will check it out at some point today at work while I look out the window and watch the rain!

Very nice Preview. I like the format. I sent it to the Sr. Director of Athletic Communications who is a good fiend of mine. He loves that stuff. Pass along to whomever at NCC that it is top notch!

Wow, and like that, the season is upon us!  Really looking forward to a fresh start!  Wesley's first game Saturday against DII newcomer Franklin Pierce should be an interesting one.  Wesley is quite the unknown this year.  A new QB and a lot of new faces out there on the field.

p.s.  Although Joe Callahan was released by the Ravens, Matt Gono is in his second year with the Falcons.....

Good luck to all the D3 schools (moreso the NJAC squads 8-) especially with the NC games).  I'm really glad I found this board with other die hard fans, it has become a valued refuge for me.

The Profs finally posted their Widener game notes. The depth chart looks great, not too many surprises with the starters. A few surprises in the back-ups. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to watch the game in person.
Go Rowan! Brown & Gold!

Red Hawks 12

Best of luck to all the schools, stay safe, play hard!! Let's Go Red Hawks, looking for big things from Ja'Quill Birch, returning QB, nice size kid, seller arm, very bright, 3.8 GPA kid, pure leader.

Well that game was interesting...Saw a lot of good things offensively, some defensively. However, there is plenty and I mean plenty of improvement for Salisbury on both sides, especially defensively. I'm sure these things will be sure up when the coaches meet. I'm not a fan of the two QB play either, never goes well, you can't serve two masters, one would love you while the other will despise you and create turmoil. Hopefully they pick one tomorrow and let the team know who is the guy going forward. This game should have been much worst than it was. Overall, I'm happy with the win, I like the calls offensively and the aggressiveness to be balance, but defensively we have to have more of a killer mentality, considering the number of starers returning and at key positions.

GAME DAY!!! Wesley flying blind into New Hampshire today. No film against a newly formed team in a division above them.... and a new QB. Should be a decent test early on.

First take on the Wesley QBs: They both played pretty well today. Difficult to see any separation HOWEVER, I thought Mullin had the better arm. Marrocco's throws were a bit loopy. Lacked zip. You also saw Mullin force a few throws. He tried to hit the TE Hess in double coverage in the 2nd quarter, and there were a couple more examples.

Special teams had a few miscues, especially on punt return.

Just got done watching the Wesley game.  69-0.....  Yeah, we aren't going to get that really good first look until next week against Del Val.  That said, I really liked what I saw.  It is obvious that Coach Knapp hasn't finalized the QB situation.  Marrocco looked shaky at the start while Mullen looked more comfortable from the get-go.  That said Marrocco ended up with 4 TD's in the end, so not too shabby.  I truly think both will succeed.  No stupid passes by either which is a good thing.   The defense was just all over the place only allowing a whopping 26 yards of total offense.  I can't recall the last time Wesley allowed that little.  It's been a while.  E.J. Lee was cutting up the grid before getting pulled averaging over 6 yards a run in the first half.   Peele is the go-to receiver at the moment.   I am definitely seeing depth in this year's team which I haven't seen in quite a while.  Next week will be the litmus test of just how good this team is going to be this year.  A playoff game in September.  Not too common these days.
