True, but if Cortland has just one loss when they play Ithaca, that'll mean they already won the NJAC and have the playoff spot wrapped up.  In that scenario the teams are playing for bracket positioning instead of postseason survival, along with all the other treasures associated with a Cortaca win.

dragonflyer

Usually, regardless of both teams' records, Cortaca is usually a nail-biter. That said, if Cortland and Ithaca both come in jockeying for playoff positioning, we could be in for a war...

Cortland right now, needs to focus on getting healthy and getting ready for Rowan on the 15th. Worry about Ithaca in November, win the NJAC games first...

When is the Phil "lovefest" going to end.  If all of you Phil admirers who missed him so much would read his posts ......... you'll see that he asks for most of what he gets.

He constantly berates RU because there is nothing good to say about his Lions.  He stirs the pot and then cries foul when somebody reacts to what he says.  He appears to know what sophmoric vitriol is and I say "look in the mirror, Phil."  Now, I know that he will say that he is only reacting to what others post but I think we have a chicken or the egg scenario playing out here.

For example, he still won't let the 4merProf prediction go.  OK, so RU didn't win by 49 pts....... so what, they still won.  Let the coaches worry about RU's future.  They don't need your help, Phil.  You're like a dog with a bone.

Phil would be much better served to worry about the future of TCNJ...... if they have one.  They appear to returning to the old days when they had about a 20-1 ratio of girls to guys.  If that continues, the football team would be interesting to watch with a bunch of Sallys, Marys and Ethels on the D-line.

His fan club should send him a box of Kleenex.

RU Fan:

Kindly note that there's not much of a "lovefest" honoring Phil's soreheaded detractors. Ought we also send you some Kleenex?

PBR...

pls rufan take your mustard and brown colored glasses off. phil posts are actually objective posts and informative. you on the other hand cant remove yourself from r.u. eurphoria....phil is a welcome addition to post on any board at anytime and isnt there to just flame like yourself.

Hey Phil,

You made an interesting appearance. Talk about a tough week, 3 days in Up State NY, 1200 miles on the Durango, finially wind up in Binghamton Friday night. Go to Cortland and watch my jeckel and hyde Red Hawks take one on the chin, drive home Sat after the game, have tickets to see my Rams on Sunday and they figured out a way to look worse then the Red Hawks, Priceless. ;D Thank God for the Yankees!!!

I think we set a NCAA record for 3 and outs in Cortland. Let's see if we can pay back Kean this Saturday.
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

Gordon,

         You are right.

Dragon,

Couldn't agree with you more, and this bye week should go along way toward healing up alot of injuries.  They need everyone healthy for Rowan.

I've never seen somebody get so apoplectic over a win!!! I've been having fun with you guys for at least a week now and I can imagine you're pretty much pounding the keyboard in frustration at this point! Lighten up. How many different ways can I come right out and say Rowan has a better football team this year?

If the cost of having the finest public institution in all of DIII is an average football team – I say so be it since this IS DIII after all. TCNJ finshed 2nd in the NJAC the last two years and beat Rowan one of those years – so I wouldn't sound the death knell for the program just yet.

Of course, if your definition of success is limited to what transpires on the gridiron ... good for you and the boys in brown! Now go get a national championship for a change. Meanwhile TCNJ will just have to be happy to limp along and win 70-75% of the rest of the championships the NJAC offers.

PS, the dictionary.com words for this post are apoplectic and knell.

JT
Did you hear anything about Encarnacion's injury?

Dave
If Montclair can get the job done against TCNJ the Rowan game should still be a meaningful one – and no matter what happens the rest of the way for the Red Hawks you can't take away what they did against Salisbury!

Warren
I forgot to tell you what happened to the young man who was supposed to attend LVC along with my God-daughter ... he was offered a recording contract with Epic Records!!! His family has hired a lawyer to get a contract together.

JT

Phil,

Hopefully I'll get an answer to my email concerning UE.  If I find out anything, I'll let people know.

I am happy with the sports and academic balance at Rowan, but let's face it I don't cheer for the Engineering Dept.  I'm an alumnus, give my football and I am content.  ;D

As long as Hamilton is around, he'll figure out a way to stay competative even if he's gotta use girls.

Gordon:

Even with a win over IC, I cannot see Cortland getting a Pool C bid with 2 losses.  There are simply too many highly regarded teams in the other 3 Regions which will probably be sitting with only 1 loss.  I consider every game from this point out to be a must win.  That's what makes the Buff St loss so frustrating.  If we had taken care of business, I think we could've gotten in with a Rowan-IC split.

YellowHat:

You might remember last season I posted some D3 team ratings based on a iterative computer algorithm I run.  I've been looking at Cortland and Ithaca's ratings closer now that the teams have played half a season.  To put things in perspective, Cortland has its highest rated team in 7 years!  But guess what...so does Ithaca!

So while I think Cortland is darn good this season, IC is still a step ahead.  Cortland looks strong enough to be a playoff team, while IC looks strong enough to challenge Rowan for the region...possible even do more than that.  I'd put IC as a 7-10 point favorite over Cortland at this point, but there is plenty of season to play.  It's not perfect but it's a fun way of looking at things.

BTW Rowan has one of its highest rated teams this season too.  If there was ever a year for Eastern Region to break through in the playoffs, this is it.

Gordon:

Before you correct me  ;) I do realize IF we beat Rowan, and take care of business with William Paterson and Western Conn, we'll be in the NCAA playoffs regardless of the IC game.  So yeah, technically they aren't all must-wins.  Just the Rowan game...gosh that's comforting!

Dan:

Ha.  I hear ya.

The algorithm idea is an interesting one.  How many teams do you monitor through it?

With 7 Pool Cs, I think there's a good chance at least one team with two loses will get in.

And unfortunately, if the East-West pairing continues in the semifinals, I'm not sure Rowan or IC can beat Linfield.

ACMob

I don't see the East -West Pairing again this year unless the ranking system of top seeds is the rule.  Will the NCAA pay for another cross country trip if it happens??  Open to converation.

To clarify an earlier post--  #9 DVC  #11 Ithaca IMHO shouldn't it be reverse order, or is the MAC that much stronger than the E8. :-\

theoriginalupstate

#433
I would think that because IC has at least beat a top 20 team (4-1 SJF).  Considering who DVC has beaten (teams with 3-2, 1-3, 2-2, 1-3 and 1-4 records) the SJF victory would give IC an edge.....but its really close though and they are separated by 14 pts...

ACMob

Upstate--  I agree that IC should be higher than DVC.  14 votes seems like a tie in the polls.  All conferences still have alot of unfinished business and upsets will happen.

DVC did beat SJF in the playoffs last year and it looks like the Bombers will roll Lycoming with the way things are going at the moment-- another out-of-conference loss for the MAC!!.   :-X
