How about the "South Jersey Dirty Dingleberries"?

or for a more "futbol" sounding name "Dirty United"

Knightstalker

Gro, remind me to +K you later, nothing better than ginger ale through the nose.  I vote for Dirty United.

Guys
I'm not in the know here, but didn't the deal stipulate that a developer had to be found within 120 days to do all of the retail stuff? I know the area is growing, but can it support an ambitious retail center as well, and somebody to take the leap of faith?
How much money money does Rowan have lying around... I see talk of a move to I-aa in football, but to where? All of the other sports would have to go to D1 as well. This is a very expensive undetaking...Do they look to the NEC? The school would have to find money for this as well...

Bill,
It's already been said that somebody would have to underwrite this within 120 days. Thus the great PR (see my other post on this subject). They win if they make the deal, they win if they don't because of the PR this has generated ... the only loser would be the local business owner in the 'boro should this pie in the sky actually come to fruition!

It's already been written that any MLS team who might be talked into this deal, would insist on calling themselves the "Philadelphia _ _ _ _ ". Much to the chagrin of NJ lawmakers.

Anyone familiar with Henry Rowan's business - Inductotherm Industries – might suggest the Rowan "Boilermakers" or even better the Rowan "Cossacks". It seems old Henry got in trouble with the Commerce Department back in the '80's when a subsidiary of Inductotherm – Consarc Corp – "accidently" made a $10 million deal with the former Soviet Union to supply vacuum induction furnaces for what he thought was for use in the production of commercial products. It ended up that those Soviet rascals wanted to make carbon-carbon ... a technology that can significantly improve the accuracy of nuclear warheads.

It just goes to show ... whether it be athletic fields or furnace exports, Rowan is at the cutting edge when it comes to the term "dual use".  ;D

Maybe he was the business consultant to Toshiba when they sold computerized milling machines and other machine tools to the former Soviet Union that allowd them to make submarine propellers as quiet as ours. ;D

Looks like their highest attendance for Football was against TCNJ last year, a little over 5800.  'Boro fans, can you get 10k fans to a Prof game?

Also, is the MLS stadium even feasible from Philly?  I don't know the area very well, and was wondering if it is tough to get from Philly to the 'Boro.

I live in Philly and have gone to Rowan several times - it's relatively easy - all multi-lane highways until you get to the exit for the University, then it's not far off.

Will Philly support such a team?  Not me

Here's some "light" off season fodder for the NJAC room...

Let's say the Rowan deal goes through, and they move up to D1-aa, in the NEC?...What happens to the NJAC? Does CNJ bolt for what's left of the MAC? (I know you've been dreaming of that for some time, Phil ;)
I don't see the rest of the NJAC coming close to thinking of moving up... Any thoughts out there?

Phil...here, we refer to it is "moving down" to D2 or 1-AA or 1.

Because, after all, aren't they?

Reality check.......did anyone hear/read/see Gov Corzine's State of the State address yesterday?  If any stadium, soccer, football, or otherwise, is going to be built at one of the NJ state colleges, it'd better be 100% privately financed since NJ is basically going broke.  Is the proposed stadium at Rowan being built by the MLS solely?

start voting democrats down there.  they love to build stuff and stick it to the rich!!!

It will be funded from the outside – although I'm sure some monies will need to be kicked in by the college. Of course, when you have Henry Rowan's $100,000,000 earning 4.5% over the years, you would imagine they would have a little left over for rainy days like this.

patcummings
I stand corrected. "Moving Down" would be the right euphemism.

bill
I'm certainly not on the inside, but I know TCNJ was speaking with the MAC all the way back in December.

Rowan and Montclair have both come out and stated that they wanted to increase their student bodies to 15-18,000 students. Kean's already on the way. NJCU tried to bolt the conference once already...

Right now the colleges that make up the NJAC all seem to be headed in very different directions in terms of enrollments and philosophies. These NJAC schools are vastly different from the NJAC schools they were back in the '80's. Somehow it wouldn't shock me to see the NJAC splinter in the not too distant future.

NorthJerzyFan00

what is every1's preditions for this year's season?  how will Buff St. do in the NJAC??  Are Kean and Willy P going to be contenders this year???

dragonflyer

Here's my picks for next season:

1a. Cortland St.
1b. Rowan
3. Montclair
4. Kean
5. West Conn
6. TCNJ
7. Buff State
8. Willy P

Maybe I'm a bit of a homer but I think Cortland can finally beat rowan next year and take the conference

Cortland's 2006 season will be determined by the following stretch of games. Cortland schedule taken from http://www.cortlandfootball.com

October 21 at Montclair State
October 28 vs. College of New Jersey
November 4 at Rowan
November 11 vs. Ithaca

Emotionally charged final two weeks of the season.

Heard that Phil Petite returning to Rowan football, is this true?
