RU and RU LB,

I definitely have to agree with both of you.  This could in fact be "the" team this year that finally brings one home to the boro.

I think that if the D plays like they did last year, and we get solid production out of the O... This should be a fun year.

Can't wait for our boys to buckle their chin straps and get it on.

Good luck in '06 Profs!!!

The Kean HC firing is a complicated story.  It took me a while to piece it together.  I have several former HS players at the school so I am interested in the situation.

The real reason they fired him is that a VP at the school did not like the hiring from day one.  He is a control freak that has made it is business to get rid of the HC.

The final reason they are giving is that he turned in a false expense report.  Evidently, he and the DC shared a room at the national convention.  The HC gave half the money to the DC who put it on his credit card (about $250).  Both coaches then put in for the room as an expense.  The HC coach also did not fly directly home, but rather to CA resulting in a more expensive ticket (less than $100).  Both expenses were mistakes according to the HC but the school used this as an opportunity to fire him.  Many obstacles have been put it the way of this staff including staff restrictions, no admissions help, lack of practice time (6:00 am spring practices).  It is not known whether the DC was also fired for the expense report or if he was assisting in the firing.  I guess we will know when they announce the new HC.

...long term reservation in the NJAC cellar for a party of one named "Kean".

Just when they seemed to have turned a corner. They could have handled this a number of ways, but settled with the wrong one ... not to say the coach was without fault. Ahhh, the politics of the academic fifedom. Coach C deserved much, much better than this group of front office tools.

BTW, at the risk of my Karma, this is Kean – how much admissions help do you need?

njacguru

Phil,

You are correct... Coach C did deserve better.   As for the admissions help. ..  The admissions policy is random.  It gave the staff no way of knowing if a kid could get in if he was borderline.  I know I had kids that were told that they got in only to receive a rejection letter.  As for special admits, they have to attend meetings that are scheduled during practice time.   That doesn't make much sense.

My guess is that there probably won't be a current head coach in the country who would take this job if he does an ounce of homework.

That leaves trying to catch lightening in a bottle with hiring an assistant coach to turn this mess around as his first head coaching experience ... an assistant coach who would leave in an instant once he has one iota of success. What is it with Kean? Something eldritch seems to be going on there ....

Warren,
I don't know. They're the Albania of the NJAC!

Someone has replace Jersey City  ;D

Seriously, a minor issue... expense accounts... a few hundred bucks.  Audit all expense accounts at Kean andfire all those who fudge a little.  Kean was actually starting to build something.  I mean the guy was 60 ish, lot of football experience.  He probably would have left Kean in decent shape when he was done.

Too bad.

Hey, we resemble that remark!

If somebody higher up decides they want you gone, they will use any little thing.

I really thought that the NJAC was going to get tougher in a couple more years.  I thought Kean and WPU were headed in the right direction, WPU still is I think.  There is enough good talent coming out of HS in this state for all five football playing schools to field a very good team, with proper recruiting and coaching.  The recruiting was always the primary reason NJCU never had more than one or two good years every ten or so.  I thought the recruiting and coaching were turning the corner when the plug got pulled.

If I may break from tradition and make a football related comment... this was addressed earlier but Gro needs to add his 2 cents to the pot.

man do I hate the term "we beat ourselves"... from the Pro's to college to T-ball... it is a flat out stupid statement. And in football it's always about turnovers. For the record, defense causes all turnovers. If a guy is wide open and drops the ball, its because he was pinching a loaf thinking about getting tackled. Same goes for RB's that fumble w/o contact.

Long story short.: the team with more points at the end beats the other team. it's science.

I would agree with 'Gro and add that "They didn't win the game, we lost the game" is a very close second. What the hell does that mean. It's most obnoxiously used when a basketball team misses a lot of free-throws and then says "we lost the game, they didn't win it." Someone should come up with a list of worst sports cliches, and those two would definitely be on it.

PBR...

i agree also....and i am the one who said it!!! 4merprof wanted some smack talking so i pulled out the oldie but a goodie as i figured that would get a bunch of people blasting it alas the crickets kept chirping and it took days for people to catch it....now back to our regularly scheduled program of disecting the kean football program.... ;D

4merprof

That's what I'm talking about!!!  The board is finally alive.  As soon as I figure out why I don't have access to leaving Karma, people are definitely going to get some!!!

Now my 2 cents about the Kean situation.  It's a shame that the athletic depts. at a lot of colleges have to battle with the administration.  The bow-tie wearing admin at a lot of D3 schools can't understand why their respective colleges are "suitcase" schools that have no sense of pride, with students actually hanging around on the weekends.  Then when the school finally gets a respectable program, they pull the plug.

4merprof

Also, on a Prof note in respect to Kean, does anyone know what is going on with Raciopi up there???

JT

I heard he's gone.  I'll fly him out an email and try and see what's up.
