QuoteSomeone should come up with a list of worst sports cliches, and those two would definitely be on it.

You're on!  Here are a few

1)   They didn't beat us.  We beat ourselves/They didn't win the game.  We lost the game:  Top of the list in honor of the conversation

2)   He/She's a player.  He came to play

3)   We're going to take them one game at a time

4)   We're going to play within ourselves

And the one that annoys me the most.

5)   Nobody believed in us.  We shocked the world:  The underdog thing is WAY overplayed.  And unless your team did something like discovering Martians while curing cancer there's a good chance a large portion of the world won't be shocked – or even interested – in your team's success.

"I want everyone to give 110%"

Why stop there? Why not 125%? why not 200%?  Whot came up with 100% and not like 105% or 101%?

rowanlb92

not sure if you would consider them all cliches, but here are some I've heard over the years.

1) Lets set the tone.

2) This our home, they can't beat us in our back yard.

3) Lets spoil thier homecoming.

4) Looks like tarzan, plays like Jane.

How about some of the great Keith Jackson's "colloquial sayings" like:

1. "Its Hunker Down time"

2. "...like a cactus rolling downhill"

3. "slower than grandma's molasses"

"To build may have to be the slow and laborious task of years. To destroy can be the thoughtless act of a single day."

Bobby Knight's "game face" rant is the best press conference of all-time. Someone needs to post a clip of that in here.

how bout--  "we just ran out of time"!!  a.k.a.  GAME OVER!!

4mer--  IMO Union may be Rowan's toughest regional challenge this year and Cortland will be there in conference!!

dragonflyer

the last 2 weeks of the season are going to be brutal for the Dragons:

Nov. 4 at Rowan (NJAC Championship)
Nov. 11 Ithaca  (Cortaca Jug)

Go down to Glassboro to a hostile crowd one week and then come back for the biggest game of the year at home with no bye week as in recent years...  :o uber-tough

Who was tougher for Rowan to beat in 05' Del Val or Union?

4merprof

Dragon,

That is a difficult schedule for Cortland, and another thing that I dislike about this year's scheudle is Rowan not playing Montclair State the last game of the regular season like they have for the past decade.  I understand that the NJAC has evolved, however, they should have keep the rivalries alone, especially in respect to scheduling.

4merprof

Reno,

Obivously you are either trying to be funny, or you don't know the outcomes of the two games.

RU beat Del Val and lost to Mt. Union.  So in my opinion, I think that the Del Val game was easier for them to win.

Anyway, looking forward...  When the Profs stay healthy this year, I don't see either Mount nor Del Val beating them.

GO PROFS!!!  2006 is the chinese year of the Beast!!!

Reno Hightower

4mer,

Is there a difference between Union and Mount Union? Was it easier for Rowan to defeat Del Val or Union (NY)

Reno:

With no disrespect to all of my good friends over on the MAC board, IMO, DelVal was an easier win for RU than Union was.  Putting aside the weather, field conditions and any other outside factors and considering that the scores of both games were similar, I just think that Union was an overall better team than DelVal.  Remember, if RU plays DelVal and/or Union again this year, it will be with Orihel and Encarnacion ... a much more explosive and considerably different team with them in there! ;)

Dragon:

The "hostile crowd" in the 'boro is going to be the least of Cortland's problems.  There is no way that they can come to Glassboro with Orihel and Encarnacion healthy and the defense playing the way it did at the end of last season and come away with a win.  Orihel threw for 246 yards in a little more than a half last year before getting hurt.  I don't know if you've noticed but these two teams don't like each other very much! 8)
