JT,

Thanks for the Silva article.  That is absolutely fantastic for him, as well as the exposure for the Prof program, and I wish him the best of luck.

It would be great if you could posts updates on his progress with the Jets on Rowanfootball.com.

Any word on the status of Wright and if he is getting any looks as well?

If the LL has an unwritten rule like that it is pretty stoopit in my opinion.  Hobart, Union and RPI all need to play the NJAC schools or Cortland and Brockport.  What is the LL trying to become, the NESCAC west?

Yea they do in a lot of ways.

After commenting on the (9) game schedule and listening to everyones posts I feel that there are a few scenarios :

1. A school will do whatever it can to get a 10 game schedule and not run from anyone. Example MSU and Rowan. MSU is not as good the past few years and some other schools like Salisbury and Springfield will take a shot. The Springfeld game is the second half of a home and home from 3 years ago. Our D is always good, but took a hit this year, and we will see. Rowan is a good example of a well run program that really keeps on ticking. They have no fear of anyone.

2. A school with a 7 team conference and a AQ. They figure if their program is good why risk a regional loss in Region and prepare for the highest seed in the playoffs. Bring on the weak sisters whether 10 or 9 games.

3. A school with a 7 team conference and a AQ. They figure their program is good long term and will play anyone who will come their way.

4. Independents or less then 7 team conferences know they can be out with 2 losses and play accordingly. Brockport feared nobody, but as they weakened a little, could not afford losing to Rowan and can you blame them.

I'm from the old school : "Play the best teams you can and your program will be good in the long run and your recruiting must be consistant. You may have a few bumps in the beginning, but that is expected."

MSU got a little crazy a few years ago, but Coach G. got them back on the right foot. The past 2 years were a little tough, a few bumps, but I think we are on the right path now. You can never look past MSU, ask Salisbury. WE just need to play strong for 60 minutes, not 45 0r 50.

Let's see what happens in 2006.

Cortland picked up Morrisville as their 10th game, otherwise they also would have had only 9 games just like last year.

It seems to me that theres always one team out there looking for an extra game.  Ithaca has always found a way to get that 10th game with a non-league team.  Other schools should try to find similar schools.

Schools Ithaca has played for the 10th game:

AIC
Mansfield
Mercyhurst

Montclair
TCNJ

Huntington

Wilkes
Lycoming

Would a PAC team like Mansfield play Rowan?  I know the NE-10 (AIC, S. Conn) have not had a lot of room on their schedules but Im getting the impression that Rowans administration is not trying hard enough to find that 10th game.  Maybe its just not in the budget I dont know.

I would expect that SUNY-Cortland would try to help SUNY-Morrisville.

Jonny,
I did an unscientific study and found that the LL wink and secret handshake did not apply to other sports when it comes to avoiding those nasty state schools. I stopped counting at 24 games against everyone from Keene and Westfield to Montclair, Paterson and a few SUNY's thrown in for good measure. Obviously the baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, lax teams, etc. didn't get the LL memo.

It seems a bit much when you consider what it must take for RPI to run their D1 hockey programs.

Besides, I believe that TCNJ has more difficult entrance requirements than anybody on the RPI football schedule – so the transference of state school coodies would be minimal. September 9th has TCNJ playing at LaSalle in a rediculous and meaningless game – while RPI plays Endicott in a "can't miss" matchup of non-state schools.

Dang, it's too bad Rowan, Montclair and TCNJ have to go to the lengths they do to schedule those 10th games.

Phil its mostly Hobart and Union behind the public school thing and it has nothing to do with entrance requirements (see Cal Berkely) and more to do with emphasis on sports at each school.  Your point regarding RPI hockey is duly noted.

Union has played TCNJ.

Re: 9 game schedules
If only teams could pull in enough revenue from an extra home game in year X to fund that extra road trip the following season. If only I had bought that extra hot dog.

Re: NESCAC west
More like "Little Ivy"... the hockey team, and the school,  suffers from ivy league envy.

Gro, take away hockey scholorships and you could have a game in Hawaii.

I'd love to take a peek at the athletic budget. Football is probably #2... but not if you look at it at dollars per individual (total players + coaches).

Phil Silva .........

Great news about Silva signing with the Jets. ;D

He's a quality young man and a credit to the Prof program.

Good luck, Phil.  The Prof Nation is proud of you ;)

JT

I fired out an email to him.  I'll try to call him next week.  He's a project but one of the reason's he's there is that he picked up the offense faster than the other two free agents the Jets were considering.

I'm not a Pro scout but I've seen enough Pro talent.  Silva has pro ability.  From observation I thought he was faster than Sakeen. Good hands and good leaping ability.  If he's hungry and if the Jets are willing to teach, he's got a shot.

Wouldn't that be something.... a four/five year guy from Rowan in the NFL.  I've got Jet season tickets, hopefully he gets invited to camp.  This year, I might actually go to preseason games.

I was making some sales calls today and was driving by the Montclair area so I decided to check out the campus. It is looking pretty nice, so I decied to take a lok at Sam Mills Field. They have been talking about replacing the Turf for 3 years. I looked like something was going on so I decided to park in the RR Station and take a snoop around. They are instaling Field Turf. I actually walked on it. It is about half done and the installers said it should be complete the end of next week.

Hey Phil : The hump is gone !!!!!!!!!!! ;D

No wonder it has been raining so much.

About time something positive has been done for the Football Program. ;)
