Dave,
With the $200,000 that was raised to run a $15,000/year program for one season, they should re-name the facility "Wrestler's Field at Sam Mills Stadium"!

Phil,

I gave you a positive karma point on the comment. Well stated.

Did you hear I got busted for a 28.00 ticket.

Hope all is well with you and your family.  Happy Fathers Day !!!
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

phil

Dave,
Same to you – happy Pop's Day!

As for the $28.00 ticket ... I'm not surprised. You stopped in a commuter lot during the work week. They probably had the ticket written faster than you can say "Jerome Trawick once proudly pranced at Panzer"!

Knightstalker

They probably have the tickets pre-printed and just fill in the plate number, date and time.

Happy fathers day to all the Al Bundy's of the world.

Here's an interesting job post at Kean:

DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS
Head Football Coach (Assistant Director II)
-INTERNAL SEARCH ONLY

Kean University is seeking a Head Football Coach reporting to the Director of Athletics. The Coach has the primary responsibility for all aspects of a Division III football program in the highly competitive New Jersey Athletic Conference. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
This is a twelve month full-time position.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred. Candidate must demonstrate successful college football coaching experience, college football recruiting, and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Computer experience a plus.

Application: Please send letter of application, resume, and three letters of recommendation to: Mr. Glenn Hedden, Director of Athletics, HW 216. The closing date for applications is June 25, 2006 (early applications encouraged). Official transcripts for all degrees and three current letters of recommendation are required prior to the starting date of employment.
This search is limited to all current Kean University employees and to current student employees, graduate student employees, Academic Specialists, and Adjunct Faculty.

The search is only open to current Kean employees. Unless the tennis coach pulls an upset, this is a sure-fire way of handing the program over to Dan Garrett. But then again, this is Kean we're talkin' about. Perhaps if the women's softball coach has some free time...

As I'm sure you probably know, most schools have to post jobs internally before they are opened to the outside world....

By the way, maybe we'll see you on Friday night in Madison this year  :)
It looks like there is a chance that FDU might get lights done in time...

Boy, has the field changed since you were here last (I think!)

They can say it is limited to Kean employees but the job is actually open to any state employee with the qualifications, but bill is right, they have to post internally first.  State rules.

I know, but considering the amount of time which has passed without any word from Kean that they've axed the football coach in the first place ... and the fact that we're heading into July without one – would lead you to believe nobody has done much to expedite this process in the first place.

Bill,
A TCNJ game 10 minutes from the house – you know I'll be there! And yes, the last time I was at the FDU field it was radically different than now!

Do the NJAC state schools in NJ head coaches all get paid the same??

I don't have first hand knowledge of this exactly, but I'm pretty sure that the coaches in the NJAC do not receive the same salary. I think it's up to each school individually.

The Kean situation is a strange one.  From a good source...  A VP at the school never liked Coach C.  Evidently Coach C did not attend one of the VP's photography openings (he fancies himself a photographer) because it was 4:00 on a tuesday in the fall.  Then at the end of the season coach started an award dinner and named an award after the AD and another after the school president and neglected to name one after the VP.   The DC trains the VP in the weight room and made it clear that he wasn't planning on waiting for Coach C to retire.  So when Coach C handed in an expense report that had a $250 charge for a room that he alledgely did not stay in they turned it into Travelgate.   Considering Garrett was seen at the Kean Gala (a $150 a seat extravaganza thrown by the Kean powers-that-be) you can expect them to open the doors (more so) to any prospective football players in the future.

Regarding my last posting... I did not think anything this absurd went on at  a state University but then the same source sent me this email regarding tuition (dated june 7th):

INCREASE IN TUITION AND FEES FOR SUMMER SESSION II 2006

At its May 22 meeting, the Kean University Board of Trustees approved an increase in tuition and fees of 9.9 percent for Summer Session II which
begins on July 5.  This decision was made based on the advisement and
recommendation of University Administration. Proposed reductions in aid
to higher-education institutions and the uncertainty in funding levels
caused by ongoing state budget negotiations necessitated that the
University plan for and provide additional revenue to support the
educational and general operations for the Summer Session II 2006 program.

Students who registered prior to March 30 and have already been billed
for Summer Session II will receive a bill for the balance. Bills for
students registering after March 30 will include the tuition and fee
increase.

Should you have any questions regarding your tuition bill, please
contact the Office of Student Accounting at 908-737-3240.

So basically you could have registered and paid for a class, then get a bill a month later saying "we are sorry but our costs have gone up please send more money".  Also if the board voted on May 22nd then how did they bill people the higher amount as of march 30th?  Kean is certainly living up to its reputation of being a bit shady.

I thought this year was the first year of the "home and home" series between Rowan  and Widener.

I looked at Widener's schedule, and I don't see Rowan...

Did something happen?

It might be the NJAC's move to block schedule in 2006.  In order to improve the conference's ability to get non-conference games, each NJAC club is playing their full non-conference schedule in the first few weeks of the season.  Easier to get games earlier in the season rather than later is the reasoning.

In the past, NJAC clubs would fill open spots in any week available.  It looks like Widener historically plays MAC opponents in the first couple weeks of a season.  My guess is that Rowan and Widener were looking towards an Oct or Nov matchup.  After Sept. the NJAC only plays conference games now.  Thus nullifying a Rowan vs. Widener game for the near future.

In fact, block scheduling impacted the big end of season game against Montclair.  The Profs now play them at the end of October.

Widener would have to have its 10th game open up in September in order to play Rowan in the regular season.
