I don't know if anyone's aware of how "bad" TCNJ's loss to Buffalo was last weekend.  After coach Hamilton went for – and missed – a two point conversion to go up by three in the final quarter, Buffalo scored and made the two point conversion to go up by 7 with a minute left in the game. The Lions then drove, scored and kicked the extra point to tie the game with seconds left.

Question 1) Do you attempt a two point conversion when you already have the lead? Ever?

Then in the first overtime Buffalo failed to score and TCNJ took over and drove to the one yard line and had first and goal. Three running plays later it was fourth and goal from the one. TCNJ then inexplicably faked a field goal (which would have been shorter than an extra point). The play failed miserably and they went to the second OT. TCNJ scored immediately and the kicker (brimming with confidence after what happened moments earlier), missed the extra point. Buffalo scored, converted and won.

Question 2) Has anyone, anywhere seen a college team pass up a game-winning field goal attempt from the one yard line? Ever?

Lately it really bites to be a TCNJ football fan. I never thought I'd say this, but thank god for Rutgers (at least until Thursday night).

1) There are situations where a winning team should go for 2 points if they have the lead.  (Most coaches have a chart that tells them exactly when do to it.) Ex: You score a touchdown to give you a 1 point lead late in the game.  you go for 2 so a FG doesnt win it for the other team.

2) No Ive never heard of it in college or high school for that matter.  Thats crazy

I appologize for not having the Cortland game story or the WPU pregame yet.  A family emergency has taken up most of my time this week.  Everything is now OK, but between work and family I don't know if I'm coming or going this week.  Hopefully I can attack the stories tonight and tommorrow.

The school colors come from the brown eyed susan flower which used to grow around the Whitney estate (wealthy glass bottling family mid 1800's to early 00's, hense Glassboro).  The Whitney estate became the beginnings of Glassboro Normal Teachers College (1923).... fast forward, fast forward, yada yada yada... 100 million dollar donation in 1992 by Henry Rowan to start an engineering school in South Jersey.

I think the uni's have improved significantly from the 90's and early 00's.  I like the all yellow or mustard look and the all white with yellow numbers. The all brown or brown combination isn't bad, it used to be much worse.  I'm a big fan of history, so other than playing around with different shades, I don't see a color change.  Plus with rare exception Rowan's uni's are, for good or bad, distinctive.

I was only half way through with the Cortland game story... so I stopped and cranked out the WPU pregame.  I'll finish the Cortland game story when I get a chance.

good stuff JT thx for the quick history i didnt know that about rowan....i did look back and your right earlier rowan uni's were worse...the white shading on the numbers does help the brown and yellow.....maybe some new lettering style would help ....go with a big R on the helmet although the color scheme might be a little crazy looking...with your background you could design the new lettering and letterhead for the university

Rowan just updated the logo and mascot this year, so it might be a while before the next update.  The football team tweaks the uni's very couple of years.
