Alex Smith left the game injured after the second or third possession.  He scrambled for a first down and immediately grabbed his leg in pain.  As of the second quarter he was on crutches with his knee iced.

And yes, Dustin Bowser was carried off the field by the trainers and his teammates.

So, Cortland has lost their QB and RB in game #1.  Not a good sign.

The bigger concern is that although Ray Miles has looked good (just like last season), his offensive line is really struggling.  Miles is getting chased as soon as he gets the snap from center.  No opportunity to set up in the pocket.

Blocked punt for a TD for Cortland just before half-time.  21-7 Cortland.  Morrisville does not have the offensive fire power to rally from this deficit.  The question is can Cortland find a rhythm for their own offense in the second half?

I don't know Pat.  Honestly I didn't even want to look.  What a nightmare.

at this point you just have to feel for the kid..........whats the remaining crowd look like?

Good question.  I had to leave after the second lightning delay because I had to be at work by 11 pm...which is where I am now.   ???

I knew I would have to be on the road by 10 pm.  But who woulda thunk that would be midway through the second quarter?

I see that the final was 71-7 on the scoreboard page.  If thats not a typo, than a whole case of whoop ass must have been opened as I thought it was only 7-7 in the second qtr.

From reading the game write-up, it seems like Andrew Giuliano had his way with the Morrisville defense, making them more like swiss cheese.

Even a few years ago, he was showing flashes of this type of running and that's when he was a frosh. It'll be interesting to see if he can keep it up against some of the better defenses.

The two injury losses will really hurt if Smith and Bowser are out for any length of time. Smith had such a great start to his career and it'd be a shame if he missed the rest of his senior year. Though, in theory, he'd be more than eligible for a red shirt if he decided he wanted to come back. Bowser's already gone through so much, you hate to see the kid have to come back from an injury.

Best of luck to the Red Dragons next week against Brockport.

Got back from PA late this afternoon. Had a great weekend with my daughter, had fun tailgating and visited my Mom after the game. Doesn't get any better. Now down to the game.

The score should have been 21-0. The D was awsome. The O was a little stiff with the exception of McCoach and #6. Chalk it up to our first game. We need to improve on the O. Mike needs to take what's given to him and not try to force it. That is my opinion and I'm far from an expert.  I feel that these kids may have something special going, and we have to take it one game at a time. Keep building from each game.

We need to contain Sharp and the option this Sat. The D can do it and I'm sure the O will be improving each week. The boys are playing like a unit. Let's keep it going. Time to snuff out the Pride !!!!!!

If you want it bad enough, you'll get it done.

It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

According to some old teammates who went up to the game.....they said it did not end till almost 1am due to a second 90 min lightening delay.  Sounds like Morrisville wanted no part of this game after the delay.  I remember in in '97 our JVs played Cayuga College at Coyne Field in Syracuse and  there a stupid long lightening delay.  0-0 before the delay with like an hour delay with 3 minutes before the 1/2 .  They then  put 21 points up in a flash  and the the game eventually ended 21-7.   Lightening delays suck.

Any thought on the Brockport-Cortland game coming up?  After listening to the Brockport game on Saturday, I fear what could happen to them at the hands of Cortland. Hopefully they can pick it up.

We do need to improve on the O-Line, how can a an opposing  lineman grab our RB from behind after the FB cracks the LB.  I said it in one of my 1st posts the O-liine needs to step up this year for the team to be successful. The 1st game was the complete opposite of the scrimmage against lackawana. The defense played well but can be better, a lot of missed tackles. Jump looked pretty good, Mc Coach looked good and for a 1st time starter Scott held his own.
The thing that I don't understand is when they throw to the fullback out in the flat, why is the ball thrown behind him, against the grain if you will ?

A win is a win...lets make it 2-0 this week vs Springfield.

any word on Smith or the kid with the concussion? Any idea if they'll be back on the field this year?  Tough break... hope you boys stay healthy the rest of the season.  musta been some game though 71-7.  Bombers just figured you guys were trying to copy us with the whole rain/ lightning delay.  Bomber game got delayed 1.5 hrs, with 3 mins left to go in the 1st half.  (Halftime was 5 mins long)

Catchball....

That is just a timing thing....Its just a check down throw bc your taking what the defense gives you...

Kudos to the younger guys though who got their feet wet and made the most of there opportunity to play...Reminds me of when one of the great linebackers Matty Shultz tore his hammy and a young energetic little fire cracker named  Keith Migliarino who was second string to Matty Shultz came in and played his heart out... hahahaha

rams1102 -not sure what game you were watching,  the Wilkes score could have easily been 7-0 MSU or a Wilkes win by 3 or 7.
Based on your squawking prior to the game , I expected MSU to win big and be much better then Willy P. I saw niether during the game.

First Downs - 11 MSU  , 13 WU
Total YDS MSU 249 , WU 200
Time Of Possesion MSU 28+ Mins,  WU 31+ so stat wise the game was very even and ALL the scores were the results of big breaks:

MSU gets short field due to a bad punt and a face mask penalty, WU gets short field due to a long INT return. MSU gets short field due to big kickoff return and a really cheap defensive pass interference call. Both defenses played outstanding and I think both teams knew they were in a good , hard hitting game.

WU is still getting their offense together and the big difference was we avg. 1.2 yds per carry, cannot continue that and win in either the NJAC or MAC.

I would do a little less bragging and pay more attention to the game.
