As an RPI student from NJ (whose girlfriend attends TCNJ) - I can say to any TCNJ fans that the trip up to Troy is not a bad one and actually goes by pretty quickly (~3.5 hours, almost entirely highway).  So if you're considering making the trip up for the game, go for it!

It's always great to have a strong contingent of visiting fans and this coming weekend is no exception.  It should be a heck of a matchup; I know a lot of us up here are looking forward to taking on a new and tough team come Saturday.

Welcome! As a RPI guy, you should come to the Liberty League board... a bunch of RPI alums there, and you might get an education in something other than football!

If I weren't getting ready to go on vacation, I'd head up to Troy and catch the game.

I've been keeping an eye on the LL board the past day or two but haven't chimed in as the topics are floating around satellite radio and baseball.  :P

Yeah, it's been a slow couple of days for the boys. :)

I'll ask my source.  I know there was significant turnover with coaches like WR and RB.  But they are program guys who played at Rowan - Tyree Jackson for WR's and Pat Thompson at RB's.  I like how Pat affected Rob Richardson's running style until he got hurt.  Rob used to run straight up absorb a lot of punishment.  He also danced a little too much.  This year he was hitting that hole hard and running low.  Became much harder to tackle.

That freshman Ben Borsequot looks really good.  Nice feet, very quick, and runs hard.

is there only 1 TCNJ fan on the boards? Quiet here in the DJAC.

JT

There are a few.  mandefense is a former player.  Maybe NJAC'ers can't bothered.  Put any DIII college name + football in a search engine and d3football.com is more than likely on the first page.

You'd think with all the social networks that more students and alumni would hit PP from NJAC, but they don't.

The story goes that it's RPI's offense verses TCNJ's defense, but RPI has a pretty good defense this year too.  30 sacks in 9 games, giving up 2.6 yds/rush, and only 7 rushing TD's allowed.

If RPI can have a solid 1st half, which they haven't had lately, they can win this game. Plus, it's on the cozy confines of 86 Field.

I think the whole key to beating TCNJ is get an early lead.  They don't have a great O and they like to play with the lead.

RPI has been a second half team all year (actually more of a 2-4th quarter team)  Looking through the box scores, scoring by quarter is 1st: 40, 2nd: 78, 3rd: 63, 4th: 80 (OT: 7).  Opponents' scoring is 1st: 35, 2nd: 26, 3rd: 7, 4th: 53.  The 4th quarter opponents' scoring number is high mainly due to the Hobart game (24 points against in the 4th).

We have a habit of floundering in the 1st quarter and getting our act together in the second, then building the lead as much as possible in the second half.  It's worked pretty well this year but it could come back to bite us if we can't manage to come back from any 1st quarter deficit we get ourselves into.  I'm not sure how well we would fare if we were to spend the rest of the game after the 1st quarter trying to catch up on the scoreboard.

TCNJ has one of the best defenses in the country.  Their O isn't bad.  334 yards and 25 points per game.  FG kicker is decent too.  Mistakes on O in the red zone cost them the Kean game.  I think they'd smack the Mules around if there was a round two.

When I talked to Coach Hamilton in August I got the feeling that he felt he had some players, just wasn't sure how the offense would all fit together.  He gave me a look like he wasn't going to be the 7th ranked team (pre season coaches poll) in the NJAC when it was all done.

I was very very impressed with TCNJ's team...I would be very shocked if RPI beat them, their defense is for real, they come from all angles and roll in and out of coverages...and make plays good luck guys REP the NJAC....a West Orange boy is doing his thing down at Rowan nice nice Ben was a standout player in WO and would expect him to do the sames things down at Rowan...Should of went to Montclair :(

TCNJ fans. The drive is not bad at all. Better then the drive I took to Buffalo. Takes about 2-3 hours of easy driving up Thru-way. Hope we get a good turn out.

This TCNJ grad flew the coop and left West Orange too. How did the Mountaineers do this year? I don't get those results in the greater Houston newspapers.
