Is this what the rest of DIII should be doing to compete with MUC? Or have we tread a little too close to DII? I can't really answer this, but in a perfect world, just what is the spirit of DIII when it comes to building a football program?

Mount Union was hardly the first to this concept.

Yeah I heard Catholic was loaded with DII transfers in the late 80's and early 90's  ;)

Yeah I know.  If DI schools drool over Fla talent, imagine the DIII possibilities.  I have to check and see if I won the mega.  If I did seems some funding for out-of-state recruiting and a new stadium would be in order.

Edit: Crap.  One of the two winners of 163 mil was from Dirty Jersey, but it wasn't me.  Won like $10 from a $5 wager, not quite the big win.

JT,
TCNJ and Mount Union average cost is 28k per year (for out of state students at TCNJ). From MUC's website: "The average aid award is $15,650." State school territory? Yes.

Pat,
Yeah, I guess you're right... but you have to remember that my DIII world usually begins and ends with how things are done in the NJAC. When it comes to a private school that costs less than many state schools with aid figured in – and a program which sends coaches to actively recruit Florida, you'll have to forgive me if I think the top program in DIII has an advantage before the coaches even begin to coach.

Being in Texas, I should just become an MHB fan and be done with it! ;D

Knightstalker

Being in Texas you should be out recruiting Texas players for TCNJ.   ;D

From TCNJ's roster:
81    Mark  Gardner    WR     6-1  185    So.   Flemington, NJ/Bishop Dunne (TX)

Next question?

Wouldn't want Phil to get in trouble.  Like the NCAA cares about DIII anyway, but it would be a violation of NCAA booster rules for Phil to recruit unless he was actually a member of Hamilton's staff.

Now he can call Eric and say you've got to come down to Houston, there's this kid that just turned down a full ride to the Univ of Texas but has his heart set on small NJ institution with Ivy League admit standards.  Coach Hamilton or a staff member would be the only people affiliated with TCNJ that could talk to the kid.

This is less than every NJ state school, before aid.  Yikes!  Ever since Whitman cut the crap out of funding, NJ state tuition has exploded.

JT was in the last batch of students to be part of real state funding.  He did room, board and tuition for about $6K per year, and left college debt free.  Books and booze were a liitle extra  ;)

I'm digging about what a young coach Vince Kerhes is over in the OAC as part of the reason he was out on the field.  The guy is 31. He played on championship teams, and coached in a championship program since 1999. Methinks he's been around the block a little.

1981 Trenton State Tuition: 5k
Trenton State misc. books and fees: 1k
Monies spent at the Pub, Rat, Pizza City, Mundy's Bar, The Extension Bar, Slocum's Bowl-O-Drome (and bar)... well, frequenting these establishments was like getting a second education.

If coach Ham were to come down for a visit he need only visit nearby Katy High School (#4 USA).

As for 31 yr. old Vince... how often would you be able to make a mistake while toiling in the private sector — ten years removed from college — and be able to get away with a professional misstep with the understanding that you were "young"?

Knightstalker

I just posted this on the OAC page, let the karma hits ensue.

Let me understand this, we should all excuse VK for losing his temper and storming on the field and getting his team penalized 15 yards because he is a young and basically a good guy.  But everyone would be harping on KC Keeler for the same thing ten years later and still hate him.

Also when the game ended and the coaches met to shake hands, LK kind of pulled a Belichek and did not actually look at his opponent while they shook hands, LK was looking in the opposite direction from UWW's coach.

Perception being what it is, VK appears to be an out of control hothead and LK appeared to be arrogant.  I am sure this is actually not true, but it is what I saw and perceived.

In state tuition and fees per semester at NJCU for 2007:
4077.60  Per year 8155.20
Out of State
7379.60  Per year 14759.20
Housing and meals for the year for in state and out of state
6958

Total for in state
15113.20

Total for out of state
21717.20

Tuition room and board in 92 when I started at NJCU was approximately 4200.00 for in state and 6200.00 for out of state.

Just imaging the basketball team NJCU could field if they could offer an aid package even close to what a private school could offer.

I sat down and figured it out a few years ago and I actually would have come out of college with less debt if I had attended Moravian instead of NJCU.  Big difference was the guitar professor at NJCU blew the Moravian professor out of the water.  I also thought and no one corrected me that a state school would be cheaper in the long run.  I have learned my lesson.

The only thing I hate about Mount Union is what they've prevented Rowan from attaining.  I mean just once in Salem would have been nice.

But this uber program, uber coach stuff, do no wrong, wears on us non-Raider fans. I respect all their accomplishments.  And I've met LK.  He really seems like a down-to-earth nice guy.

His team boasts some of the best trash talkers I've ever heard, maybe even better that TCNJ, and their not perfect.  Thank God they're human like all their opponents.

Knightstalker

I have to admit, I kind of like going to the OAC page and spinning up the "MUC can do no wrong people".

Hmmm... best trash talking Rowan opponents (that JT's been in ear shot of):

1) Mount Union
2) TCNJ/Kean tie
3) Montclair
4) Cortland

And Rowan slings it as well as any opponent.  Guess its just part of the game now. Kean has made solid inroads in the talking department, particularly Wr. Durrell Dukes. After what I heard in 2007, they move into a tie with TCNJ.
