Cortland 32, Kean 28. RDragons come from behind in final period. Kean td on game's final play

SJF Laying the Wood down! Cortland / Kean getting nutty in the 4th.  I thought it was 17-10 in the 4th....put the computer down for a few minutes and come back to hear that Kean scored on the final play of the game making it 32-28.  Must of missed a lot in the interim.

Montclair - 16          Brockport - 14

The Red Hawks came away with a "W". The game was not pretty for the "O". The "D" did their usual good job.  Fisher hurt his ankle in the beginning of the 2nd half. Palmer replaced Fisher and did OK, but you could see the hand-off's with Bliss were not sharp and most of the 2nd half was 3 and out. Down 14-13 with 2:30 left we moved the ball dow to where Capozzo kicked a 38 yard field goal with :16 left for the win. The running back #3 was a killer. Even when we stopped him he moved forward for 3-4 yards. They also ran a 3-5 yard screen and pick very well. Bliss was pretty much shut down for the 2nd half. Palmer gives us a running dimension and we will see the health of Fisher for next week.
Was the game prretty, the answer is no, do we need to get our offensive you know what together, the answer is yes and did we get a "W" the answer is yes. Let's now get ready for Willy P.

Kean is one amazing offense.  Thomas D’Ambrisi (redshirt freshman transfer from Monmouth) throws a great ball and runs well.  Big, fast receivers who run nasty crossing routes.  There is a lot to like with the Cougars, and I expect they will be among the top NJAC teams at season's end.

The Cortland offense was explosive today.  The receivers had numerous drops in the first half, but in the second half they stepped it up.  Big day for Eric Hajnos with an 81 yard TD reception.  Jeffrey Lang had his best receiving day as a Red Dragon too, with 5 catches for 104 yards and a TD.

The Cortland defense is still struggling against the pass.  Dukes had 14 catches for 155 yards and could not be stopped.

I agree with Dan.  Kean is a team to be reckoned with.  The QB is really good and Dukes is an outstanding receiver.  We held Chunn in check but that is a triple threat that will give teams fits.

Cortland wins their third road game to start the season.  They have yet to click on all cylinders.  Our secondary is our achilles heal.  I thought our run defense was pretty solid yesterday.

Offensively, we can score points; no question about it.  Miles stepped up big in the fourth quarter after 3 poor quarters of QB play.  He ended up with good numbers but I thought for awhile we might get to see Pitcher at QB as Miles seemed out of synch.  Lang had a huge game and Anthony Giuliano turned in his second strong game in a row.  The blocked punt was huge.   It will be nice to play at home finally.

I never would have believed it.  Kean isn't missing Roque at all, and D'Ambrisi has 4 seasons to play.  Expect plenty of records to fall in Union, NJ.

I think there is some strong QB play in this league and D'Ambrisi is probably going to be something special.  Dan, you saw the Pitcher kid play in high school as did I.  I think he has alot of potential as well and I thought, for a while, we might get to see him on Sat.  but then Miles stepped up big as a senior should.  I thought Miles lack of mobility hurt him on Sat.  Pitcher would bring a little different dimension to our QB game as he is more mobile with a strong arm.  but...I don't get paid to make those decisions.

Cland,

I thought we could see Pitcher in the 4th quarter too, but that is a lot to throw on his shoulders all at once.  Miles stepped up and threw some good balls in the first half too, but his receivers were dropping easy catches.  If a few of those balls are caught, maybe Cortland isn't playing from behind after 3 quarters.

Don't forget the opening play-action bomb.  That was a touchdown which should have been caught.  Great call, great execution, nice pass.

In my opinion through 3 quarters Miles was playing fine against a tough defense.  He made 2 mistakes.  I'm not going to blame him for being crushed from behind and losing the football.  If I am the coach, I have no problem playing Miles in quarter 4.  But Pitcher might have been a perfect fit, as he could have scrambled away from the very aggressive rush Kean was employing.  That was the only reason I thought we might see a temporary switch.

I see that Buff State is still winless but would not take them lightly.  Buff State was always a fun game with big hits and big plays.  In '98 they were ranked and we were not, but that did not stop us from dropping a 5 spot on them in the huge blowout upset.

rams1102:

Congratulations to your Red Hawks on their win over B-Port.  The score seems like it was quite a "bird fight".  ;D
