IC peaked at the right time......Yesterday!  Most of their success was Cortland's inability to keep the IC offense off the field with time consuming drives.   the Cortland OC should have his head checked.  I now feel the pain of the Fisher guys.  Can't give IC any extra chances because they will eventually burn you.

How so?

Your 9-1 and going to the NCAA's...

We're 6-4 and will be lucky to get an ECAC bid...

Dont really see the comparison...

Play calling my man.  You guys have had issues with the scheme.  Yesterday we averaged like 8 yards a carry, but insisted on throwing the ball the minute we reached the redzone.  Cortland threw 4 picks in the endzone from well within the 20.  Its a one game gripe and I know there will be lots to learn from the film on that embarassment.

To be fair, by the last two, you guys really HAD to throw the ball. You were down 23 at that point and needed to try and conserve clock.

MSU's Defense is the real deal, when the offense has 4/5 turnovers though it is hard to keep points off the board, plus one of the TD's yesterday was on an int return. Two mins left to go in the game MSU had no timeouts it was a simple iso up the middle, I have never seen anyone shoot the gap like Cornell did yesterday taking on the fullback and making the tackle for a loss giving our O one more chance to win. Our offense at times is very explosive and our Defense has been the rock all year, all we can do is hope Pat is right and we are taking a road trip up to Ithaca...

Is everyone so sure Montclair or Rowan cant still sneak in?

I think Montclair gets in.  They just smoked Rowan 2 weeks ago, so the NCAA won't put Rowan in ahead of Montclair.  The East should be very balanced, with the exception of MUC if they are inserted.  I'd much prefer to see the #2 OAC team, or W&J or Muhlenberg come up.  That would be a helluva fun bracket to follow.

Thanks for the update on your d...wasn't sure...

Gotta say though, that offense is going to need to do better than the 17 or fewer they put up 7 times this season...IC averaged 43 points a game at home this season. I am sure your defense is as nasty as you say, but IC is going to put up points. I'm going to go with 31-15 IC

I also think IC will be fired up for the game. First home playoff game since 1994 will be big for the program...

I'm not really sold on an offense held to 17 points or less seven times in a season, especially given that IC is dropping 43 and 35 points a game on people with their backups playing. I don't know if Montclair has the firepower to stick with IC, especially up in Butterfield.

Anyone got thoughts?

I've seen them both play and I agree with your assessment.  IC is the best team I've seen all season, Montclair and Rowan included.  Honestly I think Kean or Rowan would give IC more trouble because they can win a shootout, even though I think Montclair is a little better than both.  Montclair's defense is really strong, but they won't hold IC below 24 points.  I can see Montclair falling behind by 14 and having to play catchup, and then the game getting out of hand.

Agree to disagree  :-\

Fair enough...like someone said, it's tough to gauge teams that only play in conference games. All I've seen of NJAC defenses was yesterday, and I wasn't all that impressed.

There's a lot of questions for IC's offense: Who's under center for IC? Who's he going to be handing off to? Does Montclair have anyone fast enough to run down Crandall? Will IC be tight in their first home playoff game since 1994?

Again, part of the question is: How good does Montclair's defense have to be? Their offense has only scored over 17 points three times:

1) 45 against a Buff State team that allows 34 a game
2) 38 against a W. Conn team that allows 30 a game
3) 30 against a Rowan team allowing 18 a game

Hopefully for them, the Rowan game is the blueprint. IC's defense has allowed 21 PPG and is kind of a feast or famine type deal. But with a RB averaging less than 4 YPC and a QB with 8 TD and 7 INT, I just don't see the offense. Montclair I think, would like to keep this thing around 24-17. IC's gotten in some shootouts (Hartwick, Alfred) and come out on top. Again, not trying to sell the Hawks short, just MHO

IC has the fire power to beat Montclair.  Montclair has the strongest Defense in the NJAC andl, if I were IC, I wouldn't have been very impressed by Cortland's Defense yesterday either.  That being said.  Montclair's D is better but they don't have the offense to match IC.

IC should beware though that what they saw in Cortland yesterday was not the Cortland that we have seen all year.  No excuse...just many of us are puzzled about what we saw on the coaching end of things.  Given yesterday, I would see why one would question the strength of NJAC.  Yes there are disadvantages to a 10 team conference but those of you who are considering the NJAC a weak sister to the LL or E8 are premature in their assessment.

Defensively, Cortland has some flaws that a good offense can exploit and IC did that perfectly.  Offensively, Cortland is much better than was shown yesterday.  I am not saying that  Cortland should have won that game or would win a rematch...just that yesterday was an offensive anomaly.
