It is a horse headed, goblinish creature with wings, and cloven feet.  It legen dates back quite some times.  Even the local Native Americans believed parts of the Pine Barrens were filled with negative energy.    All things aside.....Go Cortland, beat MUC!

Small but Slow

Greetings from the OAC board!  I enjoyed reading about the PC name changes in your conference and other east coast schools.  Several Mid-American Conference schools went through the same thing a few years back; Miami of Oh. went from the Redskins to the Redhawks and Eastern Michigan became the Eagles after years of being the Hurons.  I got quite a chuckle from the comment about offended Orange men.

Back to business, what can Mount fans expect from the Red Dragons Saturday?  From what I see from the statistical breakdown of your team, the offense is physical and defense is bend but not break.  You come from a tough conference that should have had three teams represent it in the playoffs.  Teams from the NJAC have generally performed well in the playoffs and Mount fans look forward to the game Saturday.

In the newer version of Charlie and the Choc factory, weren't the Oompa Loompas different.  Their orange skin must have been to offensive to the new casting director.

Ridiculous, and wasn't the Jersey Devil like the Loch Ness monster in that state?  Like an official  state folk legend.

He's totally real.  Just watch the movie "The Last Broadcast."  On second thought, don't watch that movie.

As far as my thoughts on the game...I would be an idiot if I didn't consider Mount Union to be the clear favorite.  However I have a feeling this game could be closer than a lot of people are anticipating.  There is no reason Cortland cannot give Mount Union as much of a game as Ithaca did last year, or Fisher did the year prior.  Fisher in particular had a chance to win in the second half.

Cortland is as physical a team as I have seen all season.  They also have one of the best running backs they've ever recruited in Giuliano, a huge veteran OL, and two wide receivers who create match-up problems for most everyone.  And I've yet to see an opposing LB who could stay with our TE in 2008.

Here's what I think it comes down to...Cortland needs to cause some turnovers to have a fighting chance, and they need to keep the play in front of them.  If Kmic keeps breaking into the secondary in open space, forget it.  If the WR's start burning our DB's and the safeties make rotation mistakes, it's over.  We have to play a near perfect game to have a chance.

Offensively, Miles is going to get his clock cleaned a few times and he needs to approach the game fully expecting it.  Mount Union will pressure him.  If he blinks, it's over.  But if he gets off the turf and keeps throwing bullets to Guaragno, Hajnos, and Lang, he definitely has the talent to hurt Mount Union.  Ray is not the most adept scrambler so I expect him to be under a lot of pressure.  Kehres has seen the tapes.  However Mount has to be careful not to be too aggressive with tight m2m and bump-and-run coverages.  If our big OL buys time for Ray, Guaragno and Hajnos will get behind the secondary.

It should be fun.  Let's hope for a great game for Cortland and all of Eastern Region.  May both teams' players have a safe Saturday, and may the best team win.

Dan,

Cortland has a shot. They are a good team.  I was shocked that they lost to Ithaca, not that Ithaca is a bad club.  The defense has to wrap on Kmic and close cutback lanes.  Nate bounces like a pinball.  If they can slow down Kmic and get Mount in more 3rd and longs, I think it could be close.  Turnovers might decide it.

Small but Slow

Dan,  Thanks for the honest evaluation of your team.  Mount Union is beatable, it just takes the right team with the right plan, and hasn't happened often over the past 15 years.  Best wishes for a great game Saturday.  Safe travel to and from Alliance!

Good Luck To Cortland And Represent The NJAC With Pride. You Can Do It !!!

Jerry Boyes returns to head coaching box at Buffalo St. after eight year layoff. Twas Boyes who brought the Bengals to eastern prominence. Will wear dual hats as coach and AD.
Boyes qb'd Ithaca to the heights, then got a crack at NFL as Cleveland DB. Was a late cut. Was seriously considered to coach Cortland St. Didn't work out and he accepted Buff St coaching post and quickly turned the program around. Had serious health issues leading to coaching exit. He's back! A good guy

Wow.....how quick till they are back to the days of the old Buff State?

Just wanted to say Good Luck to Cortland this weekend.  Ithaca (sorry to mention the name to the C-Staters) did a great job last year putting up a respectable fight in Alliance.  I expect the same from a well deserving Cortland team and maybe they are the beast from the east that can pull off the win.  Good Luck guys!!!

Cortland,

By watching some live stats you guys were right in there going into the 3rd. I'm sure you guys played your hearts out and put up a good fight. You represented the NJAC well !!! Look foward to seeing you guys at Montclair next year.

Great game by Cortland today.  Only team to lead in a game against MUC this season--and you drew first blood--Congrats on a great season.  Hope to see you guys play again sometime real soon.  Hope the QB is not hurt too bad.  It was great to meet some of the fans at the game--Dan and the back-up QB's dad (didn't catch the name)
