I am going to disagree with my buddy hopefan on the Fritsch technical. Interesting how two people can be sitting right next to each other, see the same thing, and interpret it so differently. I saw it as totally deliberate, a frustrated reaction by Fritsch for whatever reason. And while it wasn't anything like throwing a punch, I instantly reacted thinking the refs should call a technical. Now in fairness to hopefan, the play took place in the 2nd half on the FU end of the floor (we were on the Eureka end of the floor) and hopefan was sitting to my right, so he was a wee bit closer than I was and thus might have had a wee bit better view of it.  :) In any case, Kudos to Coach Wilde for sitting Fritsch the rest of the game.

Neither one of us can see that far!!!! ;D ;D ;D

That's why they have refs on the floor.

Now wait, i'm sure we can see better than them!!!

Bad joke time.....

Fan offers his glasses to ref, ref replies "they (the glasses) don't work for you, why would they work for me?"

True story. I witnessed it in a women's college game.

GC Panther 01

Pizza and ice cream with grandma and grandpa trumped the game  but WIU leads GC 48-20 at the half.   better at half than the start as WIU opened up on a 15-1 run in the first 5 mins

GC Panther 01

95-48 is the final from Macomb,IL.    Jones with 15 and Giertz with 8...thats about it

2 BIG games tonight, unfortunately at the geographic ends of the SLIAC and too far from St Louis to get to, get home, and still wake up for work tomorrow.... will spend some serious time on the internet tonight!

Webster at Spalding....   Spalding came through with a huge win at Westmin on Saturday and now clearly has the target on their back as the no 1 team in the conference.  They clearly have the best player in the conference (McAfee), the strongest big man in the conference (Brasher - if he plays), and the best depth in the conference... but here is an interesting point... in the 3 years that spalding has been in the SLIAC standings, though not yet eligible of the conference tourney, Webster and Chris Bunch are 5-1 against Spalding... they have kept scores low and beaten them close... Perhaps the wiley coyote knows how to take care of this roadrunner again this year....

Westminster at Eureka.... this game is listed as being video'd on the internet... I'm hoping...  Westmin has looked better than Eureka did the other night vs Fontbonne... still, if Eureka keeps pusing the ball down low to Lessen and Thornton, how will westmin stop them?

other games are Prin at Fontbonne, and Mac at BC...  I think I'll earn some good boy points and show up at home for supper tonight....

BOOOOOO !!!!
Well, live stats will still be fun.....

The live stats didn't do this one justice.  A very hard-fought game by both teams and a statement home win for EC.  Westminster is a very good defensive team and Prophet and Lee are tough off the dribble.  This was back and forth throughout the second half--the difference was the post play of Fritsch/Lessen/Thornton.  DT gave some very good minutes and West. did not have the bodies to guard our bigs.  EC was also able to handle the ball pressure despite the loss of Kindred (don't know details, but could be gone for the season) and Dunlap (was in street clothes).

The last 1:30 was wild, both teams wanted it badly, but EC finally found a way to pull out a tough victory, something they aren't always able to do.  This team is dangerous because of the ability to play high/low with Lessen back healthy and the clear improvement and contributions of Thornton and the strength of our guards.   EC looks to finally be clicking on all cylinders.  Greenville will provide a good road test on Saturday, but they look to be declining.  The games left @Westminster, Spalding, and Mac are the big ones, but EC is right there with a good chance for a top seed in the postseason.

off to Greenville for Eureka at Greenville today... will be interesting to confirm status of Jordan Kindred and Dan Anderson....   Big losses for the SLIAC if neither are returning...

Couldn't discuss thursday games yesterday... must win for Eureka, the last minute must have been incredible up and down the court hoops....  Very interesting line in Fontbonne box, Gentry gets 26 minutes, 1 shot attempt (made), 6 assists, no turnovers, that is what he needs to do against better competition too,  Big thumbs up...

Maybe Gentry and the coach had a heart-to-heart talk.

Looks like Anderson is back for GC.  Looking forward to a write-up on this one.  Another nice, if close, victory for EC.

Just a fun game to watch at Greenville... horrible drive back to the other Eureka, (Mo)...poured rain the whole way, at least it wasn't ice.  Game came down to Eureka with a 4 point lead but turns the ball over with 22 seconds... Greenville gets a 3 from the corner from Jordan Smith and fouls Ryan Nailor with 14 seconds left.... Eureka still in the 1 and 1 and Nailor misses...  Mumphard comes up to the top of the key, dribbles right for a 15 foot jumper at about 2 seconds, off the back of the rim.. Anthony Metsler, very athletic has a clear run at the basket for a tip, is WAY up, and the tip goes off the back of the rim and out at the buzzer.... a heartbreaker for Greenville, Eureka has things going their way in tight endings 3 in a row...

Both teams played well... seemed like EC made big hoops every time they needed to... Lessen had 13 in the first half, really dominated first part of game.. a real key was Ryan Nailor making 3 3's in a row at end of first half, got EC a 6 point lead at half.....Riviera shot well too....Fritsch cold in second half..and DT another solid game off the bench.... I went up to DT prior to the game to congratulate him on his game vs Fontbonne... He gave me the biggest smile and thankyou I could imagine...Kindred did not play third in a row but again I was told he was working out the issues and would be back.... the Eureka bench is really short....  Anderson back for Greenville and looked good.. but they missed Marquel Jones who is out with a sprained knee, expected to miss another week...Greenville so deep, got scoring from 6 guys off the bench.. Tyler Mitchell really sparked them with tough nosed play vs Lessen and Thornton... tough game for Simon Martin, but Metsler and Albertson looked good....

Huge week next week
Tuesday (happy birthday hopefan) is a little light, but everyone will root for Greenville to upset Spalding, I'll go see Webster at Westmin
Thursday Fontbonne at Webster, Westmin at Greenville, but I can't wait to see Spalding at Mac
Saturday fontbonne at Gville, but I'm going to see Spalding at Eureka, then Iowa Wesleyan at Mac on the way home!!
