WU FAN

A small note for those of you who are statistical buffs.  Hollis Edwards had 2 steals last night which moved him into 1st place on the all time Webster steals list.  Ahmad Smith is now at 901 career points and has the 1,000 mark clearly in his sights with 5 or more games to go this year.  As only a junior it will be interesting to watch where he gets next season.

Other interesting tidbits from last night

Westmin wins, but no Joe James in boxscore... hope no serious injury...Westmin has a huge opportunity to turn everything around on Saturday if they could get an upset win at MacMurray... but that won't happen if Joe James isn't able to contribute...

No boxscore at all for Fontbonne and Blackburn... ridiculous...  I'm anxious to see it .. always fun to see how a close game ended.. if BC had a chance to win or if Fontbonne won it on a last possession..

MacMurray's James Williams missing from boxscore vs Eureka... he's been a huge plus off the bench for Mac.. sweet shooter... I'll wonder aloud if it has to do anything with the T's assessed to Mac recently... he's an emotional kid....
My guess is Mac had a letdown last night.... don't think Eureka would get 80+ against them if Mac was playing as tough as I've seen them recently...

Box score is up Hopefan  Looks like a rarely used player McDowell went off from the three point line.  Looks like blackburn had chance to win at end.  Good for the young kid.

I saw McDowell (St. Pius) play Lil Brother's team last year. The kid IS a big time shooter. He has spent the year cutting his teeth in the JV program and probably earned the chance. Should be a "Clue" to other freshmen. It is how it should be Done!!!

From the play by play, looks like FU almost let another big lead get away. Looks like BC had 3 attempt to win, a 2 PT miss and missed 2 FT's to tie. All in final seconds.

A win is a win. Good job Griff's!

yikes... that must have been an exciting last 19 seconds!!!!  I couldn't even identify McDowell... will have to look for him next week...Wonder why it took this long for him to get a chance?

Interesting, McDowell hits his first three when it's 14-11 FU with 7:30 in the 1st half.  Goes on to nail his next four three attempts of the half, including one at :02.  That's a good way to get yourself more pt.  And FU nearly gives back a 17 point 2nd half lead.  Did BC slap on a trap press or something down the stretch?  Lots of FU turnovers.   Wild game.

WHAT???? It's the 20th game of his freshmen year. I'd say that is a pretty quick rise. Plus, he had Dorehaur, Demissee, Welch ahead of him. Along with Degeare and Ettinger, who were probably better prepared to step right in. Having saw him in HS, I thought he would need to improve his defense a lot and the pace of the game would be a problem. Having coached the JV program at FC, you have some freshmen come in and acted insulted when they start the season on JV. You have others who embrace the chance to improve their game. Looks like McDowell was one of the latter.

Very true EC. Seems he was ready for his opportunity.

Well  Denny.. any time a kid can come in and get 22 in an atmosphere like Blackburn presents, and has sat for most of the season, I think it's a legitimate question.. not like any of the guys you mentioned have been burning the nets with consistancy...thanks for the response...

LOL!

What a big day in SLIAC hoops tomorrow... Results could play a major role in determining Final positioning in the Conference Tournament

Webster at Spalding.... Webster needed a miracle comeback (and a miracle breakdown from Spalding) to win by one at home, but they are playing much better now with Hunter Ward at the 3 spot, a solid 3 man rotation in the 4-5 spot, and the frosh guards giving Edwards and Smith a regular break on the perimeter... It's depth vs depth in this game, Webster has better bigs, all else matches well... I'm taking the 4 hour trip expecting a very good game...

If Webster wins, they are in charge of their own destiny to host... they will finish ahead of both Mac and Spalding if they win out after that..
If Spalding wins, I believe they too will be in charge of their own destiny , as they would finish ahead of Mac due to the new tiebreaker scheme even if they lose at Mac but win out after that.

Westminster at Mac... Mac will be a huge favorite whether Joe James plays or not for Westmin, but with Joe, Westmin is at least a threat...

Mac can still get to 1st place, but needs help...
if Spalding beats Webster, and Mac  beats Spalding on Monday, They would need Westmin to beat Spalding next Saturday
If Webster beats Spalding and Mac beats Spalding on Monday, Mac and Webster would be tied but Webster would have the tiebreaker... Mac would have to hope Eureka or Fontbonne would beat Webster at the end of the season.

Of course the Westmin-Mac game is also huge for Westmin... if things play out, Westmin and Greenville will finish tied for 4th... a win by Westmin over Mac would virtually lock them into the 4 spot...

Fontbonne at Greenville... a loss by Greenville would kill any chance they have for a conference tourney spot.. they MUST win...

Prin at Eureka.... can Eureka get 1 more win in this disastrous season

Blackburn at IWC... ought to be a very competitive game....

Anyone know if the Webster-Spalding game will be available online to watch?  HUGE game tomorrow.  I'm sure Spalding has a sour taste in their mouth from the last game and probably feels they gave that game to Webster.  Should be a great one!  Go Gorloks!

Denny McKinney

B-Time - No Video. And, I'm not sure you can call what the Boys will be playing in a gym! I picked the Gorlocks to win this thing early in the year. This will be a really tough get.

Bunch time and others... I'll update scores on a regular basis, every 5 to 10 minutes... better than nothing!!!  And Denny, shame on you.. you gotta love the little old gyms with posts and balcony seating... all the personality in the world, they are from our era!!....I promised Bunch I'd sit in the balcony right above him to try to prevent the Spalding students from harassing him!!!! ;D ;D
