Crazy idea:

Instead of 41 AQ's, lets take the AQ winners subject them to same criteria we use for Pool C selection.  The top 32 gain entry in to the tournament proper.  (In my world they would get home games, no byes or pods)

AQ's that don't make the cut are thrown in the Pool C pile.  Repeat the process,  Next 16 gain entry into the NCAA Tournament.

Select the next 32 teams using Pool C process.  Those 32 teams are paired against each other in 16 'play in' games on Tuesday or Wednesday of the first week, winners head to first round.

Drawback is it requires an 80 team field. :-\

Unless I miss read this. Sac are you saying the last nine AQ's have to stack up to Pool C's to just get in?

Hopefan a question. Due bench "T's" count in this tie-breaker system?

Absolutely....  assuming we're talking 'conduct' ... I don't think 'non-conduct' are included.. ie, a wrong uniform number in the book etc...

How far down in the tiebreaker hierarchy is this dumb technical foul rule?

hopefan

Technical fouls is No 5 on the list behind head to head and a number of comparative 'who you beat in conference' items... no 6 is strength of schedule outside of conference as determined by NCAA calc.... 7 is coin toss, but highly unlikely it would ever get by no.6

Bunchtime, having read the SLIAC Manual, you have a better chance of winning the lottery then this BOZO rule coming into play. #3 is quality of wins head to head (quality is points scored in those two games divide by 2). #4 is quality of wins all conference games.

Westminster already has it won, over GC, if all plays out. In those two games WC scored 2 more points. Throw out any coaching morals. It's college football. Blow everyone out by as many points as possible. Glad the subjective Bozo rule will not come into play. In GC's win over WC, I hope Coach Barber kept pressing to the horn. Cause if GC was up 13 with 25 seconds left and WC was not pressuring the play you can't afford to hold the ball and let the clock expire. ??? ??? ???

If I would of looked at the manual first, this would of been a non subject.

Denny.. look at the Manual again.. quality of wins has NOTHING to do with point spread, rather it is WHERE you got your win.. a road win is worth more than a home win...

NOTHING to do with point spread... While I see some merit in the T foul rule, a point spread tiebreaker would be atrocious for the very reasons Denny pointed out....

Given that currently both Spalding and Mac could finish tied with wins and losses at the same places, and Westmin and Greenville is in the same situation, the Technical Foul rule WILL come into play....

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...

Hopefan you are correct. The following line in the manual threw we off.
"The quality-of-wins index is calculated by adding the total number of points and dividing by the number of games."

I find that the only part of the technical rule that has any merit is T's for player conduct. Although it is very subjective. T's on the bench are a function of the game. I don't approve of any player on the court getting a T. Although, there are several reasons a head coach gets one. I've seen a T used to wake up a team that just didn't show up with their head in the game. To effect away the officials are calling a game. ie: The classic "Homer Job". And to protect ones players. The latter, I saw a game where some physically dirty plays were happening and not being called. The T showed the players that their coach was standing up for them. And, I'm assuming no foul language.

T's on the bench are very subjective calls. Considering the quality of the SLIAC ref's, I hate the idea of giving them anymore power. Even the rules of the game have been changed from free throws and the ball, to free throws and continued possession. Like the old saying, "They give you two before ejection. So their giving you one. You use it or lose it." Not saying that this is right. But, it makes you wonder.

I think there has to be a less subjective way to handle the tie situation. Even a coin flip is a 50/50 chance. I think there should be a date for a play in game for ties in the 4th spot. These kids have played a long season. To decide whether a team goes on, should not be left to the subjective views of one official.

This just my opinion.

Well said, Denny.  Wholeheartedly agree. What's next? A tiebreaker of which team does more community service hours. Good grief.  This rule is beyond dumb.  Good thing those Fontbonne teams with Grasle get to the T-foul tiebreaker rule.  :D

Haha Bunchtime. I was thinking more of the Coach of that team. ;D I mean really. Baseball managers can have their say on a Call. Football coaches walk on the field screaming at the top of their lungs. And, soccer you can say almost anything as long as you end it in Sir.

But, basketball officials are Hollier than Thou. ??? ???
