There's a bass fishing team at a SLIAC school, in fact:

Do bass fishing teams have cheerleaders?

It looks as though the Greenville team is co-ed, but I did not see any references to cheerleaders.

Know this is the men's board, but since the SLIAC women's board rarely is visited thought I'd place this here too. Principia just announces that they will not field a women's basketball team this year. Nothing like waiting this late after conference schedule is posted to make that announcement.

Had heard that might happen.. what a mess... darned shame... though I do feel bad for the 4 or 5 ladies returning from last year who were looking forward to playing... and each SLIAC team loses 2 games... will be tough to find replacement opponents....

Was it too small a roster to safely play, or something else?  I suppose they can be forgiven for cancelling so late IF they were expecting players who just didn't show up in the fall term.  Otherwise, a bush-league move, causing great inconvenience to everyone on their schedule.

Best guess too small of a roster... they played with 6 most of last season, the coach did not return, and no replacement has been listed... in theory, students must belong to the church (Christian Science), so recruiting is extremely limited.... men's team has the same problem, dressing 7,8, 9 at the most, but they currently have 3 or 4 talented players and are usually competitive vs SLIAC competition.  The ladies were not very good, and their one real athlete from last year graduated.

I worked a couple of their games when they played at North Central for the Tip Off Tournament last year. Facing The System in Game 1 before going up against a then-ranked Bethel team went about as well as you'd expect those two games to go, though not quite to the level of the legendary Hope vs College of Faith game that I will one day tell my grandchildren about and when they say I'm full of it, show them the picture I took of the scoreboard to prove that I wasn't delusional announcing that game.

Was going to comment about how I felt bad for the school having to cancel, but having read through this thread and seeing the shenanigans that were pulled, maybe I don't feel so bad anymore...

I would note that the Prin ladies did pull off a stunning upset last season when they beat Spalding in February...  Spalding finished 11-7 in conference to make the conference tourney, and 17-9 overall.  Spalding was hurting with injuries at the time, but that loss nearly knocked them out of the conference tourney.  Prin was pretty bad last year, but that was one those 6 or 7 players will always remember.

Yes.  They are mermaids, and look like Darryl Hannah. :o ;D

Close, although the Darryl Hannah resemblance escapes me.

You obviously focused in on the wrong team. :D

[Alas, I can't come up with a Darryl Hannah team of mermaids (I have NO photoshop  skills.)]

Attention... Eureka College posters.... are any of you looking for a new job?   Well, apply for the EC SID position!!!   It remains open on their Department Staff listing, and that opening results in painful consequences for ardent D3hoops fans, as they are one of the very few D3 schools in the country who have yet to post their schedule... yes, D3hoops has a partial schedule posted, but it is still short 3 games vs non D3 competition...  Come on Eureka, get that schedule up.. SOMEBODY at the school must know how to get it done.

Speaking of not working... congrats to YJacklok, who recently followed hopefan's footsteps into the blissful status of retirement!!! All the more time to follow D3hoops.com!!!

I'd actually love to apply for it, but it'd be a pretty long commute for me.

heck, if Eureka College was in Eureka Missouri rather than Eureka Illinois, I'd Consider coming out of retirement and be your Assistant!!   In a touch of irony, back a number of years ago, There was a poster, ECSID who I had a great relation with.. we'd communicate right after games to pass on scores and insights, then he abruptly disappeared.. I often worried he put too much out there and got in trouble... he was a good kid.

I remember ECSID. SIDs who post on d3boards.com are rare birds, so I take notice when one of them posts with even intermittent frequency.

My guess is that there are some schools that would look askance at their SID posting here.

Darn... 426 D3 schools by my count... only 10 of them have yet to post their schedule.. and Eureka is one of the 10!!!  How are those crazy fans that sit under the basket gonna know when to show up??!!

Amazing when one looks hard enough, the things one can find... so I'm looking at Spalding's new roster.. and I'm making no suggestion of anything not on the level... but two names who had played as freshmen during the 2014-15 season, then disappeared from the 2015-16 roster, have reappeared on this year's roster.. James Abrams and Chris Leon both back this year... both are 6'6", both saw real minutes as freshmen 2 years ago...  This certainly solidifies Spalding around the basket, and they have good perimeter players coming back already... they'll be tough...

Question... where were Leon and Abrams last year... Redshirted?    (That comment is for laughs, right?)

Then another interesting tidbit came up as I was looking up Spalding's incoming frosh...Googling Frosh Troy Black, I found TWO big Announcement articles.. one that he was attending Spalding, another that he was attending Transylvania.  Given that he is on Spalding's roster, and not on Transy's, I would assume that he first announced Transy, then was swept off his feet by Spalding.... wonder if that helps Transy-Spalding relationship?  They do play each other this season...

Not uncommon in Division III for athletes to feel like playing one year and not the next... or be academically ineligible one year and not the next. Heck, maybe they didn't like the atmosphere then and now have acclimated and feel more comfortable. Lots of factors.

Spalding though, has a bit of SLIAC history regarding surprising sitouts, reappearances... as in the year two seniors sat out their 4th year, when Spalding was still ineligible for Conference Tourney and NCAA appearances, so they could come back their 5th year when Spalding had full D3 status... that one didn't bother me, but really rubbed some people wrong....
