Regarding MAC vs IWU - other than a 2 point lead off the opening tip, this game was pretty much over at the 5 minute mark IMO . Long was held to 3 points in the first half (I think announcers said he avg 20 coming into last night).  Mac looks to be a young team, needs someone to step up to compliment Long, not much bench depth/experience.  Yet, I think MAC could be a 500+ team with some work and luck.

IWU played everyone with starters playing less than 22 minutes.  IWU took a 24 point lead into the locker room at half.  IWU tied a school record with 39 3 point attempts with 17 makes less than 19 made school record.  This could have easily been a 100+ point game for Wesleyan.  It looked to me like Coach Rose at the 9 minute remaining game time mark backed the team off 3s attempts and played the end of the bench most of the remaining time.

Sunday... eastward a couple hours to see Wash U play at Augie!

I love everything about this plan, but especially this...

I am 50/50 on this game...one of my best friends from college lives in Moline.  Only fours hours away.

Years ago, this game sold out but that was an anomaly due to the rankings right?

The Weekend is planned!!!

Thursday... a Great day wife wife, 2 sons and their families... only wish my daughter and family, who recently moved to California, could be with us...

Friday.. take my wife to a D3 doubleheader to see MacMurray play Rust and Webster play UW-Lacrosse

Saturday... travel to Grinnell (no, the wife declined my invitation to come along) to see what might be a 300 point game as they host Greenville... what happens when two system teams play each other?

then find a cheap hotel, then....

Sunday... eastward a couple hours to see Wash U play at Augie!!!!

some would go "HE'S NUTS"... maybe so, BUT I'm PUMPED!!!

Will give a writeup on Grinnell Greenville on Satuday night...

Wow. What a weekend! Sounds awesome and fun.

It is hard to imagine that the Sunday after Thanksgiving would sell out, even if they were ranked No. 1 and No. 2, but no way could I drive 8 hours without asking.

No way.

Thanks for the confirmation!

On an early Thanksgiving morning, before all the festivities start, I give thanks for D3 hoops and this site... it is the fun part of my life...there are other things more important, but the reality of the competition in D3, the pyramid of non conference, then conference, then conference tourneys, then the big dance... it just gives me that additional lift...

In a prep for Saturday's battle of the system teams, Grinnell goes down to Central last night, 143-128.  From the box score, it looks like Greenville better be ready to defend Grinnell's No. 12, Julian Marx, who went 15 for 28 from 3 point land vs Central, finishing with 51 points!!

Inquiring minds want to know....Was there a Rust sighting?  Are they real?  Any other impressions?  And the $64 dollar question--were you able to snare an actual Rust schedule?

Rust did show, and though the score is not yet posted on D3 hoops nor the MacMurray site, they indeed did beat MacMurray in a very exciting game, 87-83.  This was one of those D3 games that reiterated the thought that no matter how well or poorly the kids play, a close game is a good game.... several lead changes in the last 10 minutes, crazy shots, crazy turnovers, but fun for the fans...Rust had 2 kids who basically won the game themselves.. a 6'5" forward named Allen Potts from Chicago Tilden HS who (I personally think) would be the best player in the SLIAC... strong, smooth, pretty much unstoppable.. finished with 34 points on 12 for 20 from the field, 10 of 10 from the line... and a little guard Dominique Brown, who shot every 3 point shot totally flat footed (a "set shot"), but somehow got 13 of them off, making 7, and finishing with 25 points.... the rest of the crew, well, let's say every possession was an adventure.

Alas, no schedule... I got blank stares from the two fans I asked, and didn't find the right moment to ask the coach... besides a student manager and a young lady that seemed connected to the team, I didn't see any other Rust 'officials'.

And unfortunately, sad to say, as I look back at 3 box scores posted for Rust this season, Potts and Brown had stats that were less than stellar... guess they saved their best for the bright lights of the big city!! ;D ;D

In the other game, Webster played very well in the first half and kept the game close against UW-LaX, but LaX blew them out in the 2nd half.... Webster guard CJ Moore went down with an injury.. if he's out for any length of time, it's a loss that Webster can't afford... he's the only Webster player (along with sub Xavier Dortch) that really looks to go to the basket with consistency... the rest of the lineup seems pretty content to pass it around and throw up a shot as the shot clock winds down... AND, way too much yucking it up on the bench the last couple of minutes, down 25... If they don't care, why should I?
