While many of us (including me) focus n the ppg and rpg stats, I also like to think that the best point guards in the league are critical to the success of teams... here are the guys I think of as point guards, their assists per game, their assists to turnover ratio...

Blackburn   Jake Maestranzi      4.8 APG    2.9 A/T

Eureka    Shea Feehan               2.8 APG    1.6 A/T    of course, he's a big scorer too

Fontbonne  Dallas Haywood        2.6 APG    1.5 A/T

Greenville   Johari Dix                 4.6 APG      3.4 A/T                Greenville Assist numbers Skewed by System
                   Daniel Saeli              4.2 APG     1.8 A/T

Iowa Wesleyan  Michael Soukup   4.2 APG     3.2 A/T

MacMurray    Dalton Nibbe            1.9 APG     0.9 A/T

Principia      Micah Paulson             4.5 APG     1.2 A/T

Spalding     Rylan Rowe                  2.1 APG     0.8 A/T

Webster      Adam Etter                 2.0 APG      1.5 A/T             Etter and Odjo pretty much split time
                   Jon Odjo                     2.0 APG       3.0 A/T

Westminster  Carter Wands           2.9 APG      2.2 A/T

So right now, I'd say the best combo of APG and A/T  belong to Jake Maestranzi ( a true point guard), Johari Dix (Assists are skewed, but a great A/T ratio) and Michael Soukup ( though not sure we can call him a true point guard)

Dear Santa... please send me 3 or 4 SLIAC fans who would write on this board once in a while with original ideas that I could discuss, or thoughts on what I write, to add to this board.... over 500 views per day, and rarely if ever a comment that starts "hopefan, I think your'e right" or "hopefan, You're way off base on this one", or "hopefan, we really appreciate the effort you put into getting something about the SLIAC out to the rest of the D3 world".   Well readers (singling out players and coaches), you know there is one person out here who appreciates the time and effort you guys put into the game...AND whether I write a positive, or a negative, it's not just BS.. it's what this Basketball fan sees and believes....

Speaking of seeing, I will have seen all 10 SLIAC teams after Saturday's Eureka game at Webster... weather forecasts say things could get nasty in Northern Illinois on Saturday.... hope Eureka can get down to St. Louis safely..... After results are in from Saturday games, all teams will have 4 conference games played with no more conference activity until January... a good time to analyze what's happened so far in league play, and speculate what could develop in January and February.  I still see 7 teams fighting for 4 spots, with Iowa Wesleyan having a tremendous impact on things as well as playing for a spot in the national USCAA tourney.

Only a SLIAC guy would consider Eureka to be Northern Illinois! ;)  Most would consider it Central, though to some CCIW folks it is probably considered Southern Illinois! :o

Greg probably thinks anything south of Joliet is Southern Illinois! ;D

As a native of Peoria, I'd say the 'boundaries' are more (though the interstates didn't then exist):

Northern = north of (or within a few miles of) I-80
Southern = south of I-70 (though some towns north of it may also be included, e.g., Carlinville, while especially in the east,
central extends a number of miles south of !-70)
Central = most everything in between Northern and Southern.

At least when I was growing up, the boundaries were much more cultural than geographical.  Southern was DEEP south (more Mississippi than midwest), Northern was urban/industrial oriented, and Central was as much Iowa/Indiana as Illinois.

[Congrats on getting someone to talk with you on this thread!  Someday I may even talk SLIAC bball here! :o]

No, actually my perception of the Chicagolander consensus regarding northern, central, and southern Illinois is that it roughly parallels your I-80 and I-70 boundaries.

I will say this, though: The vocal twang starts around Kankakee, and from that point southward Chicagolanders are well aware that they're in foreign territory.

While I personally love Chicago, MANY downstaters, the term for central, southern, and even northern Illinois much west of Rockford, (including a few of my relatives) have NEVER been to Chicago, and consider it foreign territory.  In SE Michigan, if you want a big city experience other than Detroit (which for the 'tourist' definitely does NOT deserve its negative reputation), the most obvious choices are Chicago and Toronto.  Prior to the security crackdowns after 9-11, I'd say Toronto was the clear favorite.  Now it is probably about a tie.

Gregory Sager

Well, most people in the suburbs of Chicago consider the city to be foreign territory, too -- although it doesn't stop them from telling people that they're from "Chicago", much to the annoyance of those of us who actually live there.

Since we're talking funny geographic perceptions - I ran across an article today about a HS basketball player in California.  It noted that she's received interest from "two colleges on the east coast" one of them was in Massachusetts, a mere five blocks from the ocean.  The other was Aurora University... in Illinois.

Yeah, I've encountered that sort of thinking from my friends who hail from California, Oregon, or Washington. I usually say to them, "Look, I realize that Chicago is two time zones, several mountain ranges, a vast plain, and two thousand miles to the east of you ... but it's not as though the 800 miles between the Windy City and the salt water on the opposite side of the continent is nothing more than a hop, skip, and a jump, either.

Just a note that the Eureka Men's game has been postponed this Saturday and moved to January 9th.  Not sure the reasoning....

Thanks Former Devil... interesting (or amusing)  thing here is that I noticed the scheduling change several days ago on SLIAC.org  and called Webster, who told me it was an error, the game was still Saturday, the 17th.... the change had not been communicated through proper channels at that particular moment... obviously that happened after I talked to Webster....

I'll bet that it's because of the impending snowstorm.
