Just a couple of loose ends...

Pat, I post our game stories on the d3scoreboard site as well, don't worry. I think I'll just put my additional comments on this board and leave the game stories on the scoreboard area.

Hopefan, it was Mac Attack that had the info on Westminster, not me. Just wanted to give credit where credit is due.

I'm starting to think any win against Fontbonne, even if it's by 1 at the buzzer (and there's been several of those already) is a very nice feather in any team's cap. They are not a team I'd want to have to face in a single elimination format.

I'm planning on going to Lincoln Tuesday, but I will not be at Webster or Westminster this weekend. It shouldn't hurt us too much. The game at Fontbonne earlier this season was the 1st Eureka road win in any sport I have attended in a year and a half on the job.

Wow.  Just when I was feeling good about everyone on the board, other than Sager, MacAttack had to go blow it.  When it comes to picking you 1-2 this week, here is my reasoning.

v. Greenville:  Unless I know GC is going to get smoked, I have to pick them.  My boys would be a little upset if I didn't because I know they are all out there reading this right now. (Hello Fellas!)  Plus, I feel after watching us play, we are going to be a tough draw for anyone.  The boys work well together and it's hard for any SLIAC team to come in to Greenville and get a win.  Ask FCNews about trips to Greenville from a Fontbonne perspective.  Not only do we have a great home-court advantage, we have a great crowd.  And with your comments, you have ticked me off and forced me to call on "The Jungle" for this weekends game.

v. Fontbonne:  You know, I like FCNews.  He's a good guy.  As much as the Greenville/Fontbonne fight with each other on the court, I still respect the program.  I also know that Fontbonne isn't going to go away quietly.   I do remember you barely beating LCC.  Fontbonne had a couple tough losses at the buzzer and they are going to come on strong.  Coach McKinney always gets the boys playing hard after break.

It goes to show the type of fan you are by knocking other fans.  I know you are going to post back it was all in fun, but it was a low blow.  Just expect the same on Friday with the Panthers of Greenville take the Highlanders hostile and get a win.

Now this is fun!!!! In the not to distant past, this board became bulletin buard material in some locker rooms. Hey, everybodies entitled to their opinions. Just remember it's hard to take things back once there printed. GC is the one place (since the BC Crazies are quiet) where you can walk into a hostile enviroment. And, now Pride will be whipping that place into a frenzy.

FU is off this tuesday nite. Then travels to Elsah, IL. for what better be a short visit. Then we get Mac at home on Saturday (their third game in five days). The kids from FU will give you a full fourty minute effort.

Webster v. Westminister - One of the pre-season picks will have two losses. Then they both see Eureka this weekend.

Mac Attack

Tongue in check, pride, tongue in cheek. If we can't have fun with each other, then there's not much left. Guess that's one of the problems we have in this country - an oversensitive, read between the lines segment that's always looking for something to be offended about. I'm the last person that would purposely offend anyone, and I'm certainly sorry if my attempt at humor was off target.

I expect GC to play hard and play well. They whipped MC last season in Greenville and I would expect MC to be the underdog Friday night - just as they were against Webster and Westminster. It should be great game and that's what it's all about. Same for Saturday at Fontbonne. It will be uphill for the Highlanders all season long.

Mac Attack

I'm done guys. Not worth it any more. I've enjoyed this board a lot the last two years - but not any more. Hope all of you have a great season and best wishes in the playoffs.

Boy, talk about doing a 180.  I was sensitive to the fact that you were making fun of our scheduling but was over looking it.  But, now you just want to leave it all behind?  Come on.  My goodness.  Now you are running away after stating...

I was over it after I posted and wasn't being crude about it.  I was also having a little fun.  Mac Attack, are you seriously going to run away right during the biggest season in Mac ball in years?

We must all comiserate with poor Yjak  -  he goes all the way down to Randolph Macon this past weekend to see his alma mater play, and they get swept!!!  Hope their ladies did better so he could see one of his teams win!!!!

Mac Attack  -  not sure what set you off, but step back, count to ten, take a nap,  and think about it.  This is likely the only place you can find to discuss SLIAC hoops with anyone who really cares - why deny yourself that because of a couple silly "my team is better than yours because" remarks.  You threw out a tease, and it didn't go over well - no big deal - this is your year to shine with Mac doing so well; why quit on it???

uh oh  see that Mac, no posts in this room for 18 hours  -  you've crushed the spirit!!!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Greenville at Maryville tonight - first because Greenville was fun to watch last year - lots of 6'1" to 6'3" players who have good quicks and can shoot, and second, I haven't seen Maryville since mid December and I'm anxious to see the progress they've made.  Will be interesting to see how the 3 frosh guards and Teddy McGrath (if in uniform) do against Greenville's more experienced guards.  This game presents an opportunity for Maryville's bigger guys to shine -Steinke, Holland, the big frosh - Greenville doesn't match that size, but can MU take advantage?

Final from St. Louis, Mo.
Greenville 61, Maryville 58 F

I listened to the game via SaintCast. (Thanks Maryville Uni. for that.)  From what I gathered through listening and phone calls, Greenville had a 17 pt. lead in the 2nd frame and Maryville chipped back through TO's from Greenville.  Tie ball game with 19 secs left and MU w/ the ball.  A MU turnover lead to a steal & break-away by Bryson Taylor lead to a basket with 1.8 secs left.  Taylor was fouled on the shot and hit the FT.  MU tossed a prayer and missed.

Hopefan was at the game and can give more details.  That's the info that I have.

Set's up a super match-up on Friday night at the JUNGLE.  MacMurray (4-0) v. Greenville (4-0) [Pending Mac Win v. Principia Tonight]

GO GREENVILLE!  YEAH!

You got it right Panther  - both teams played poorly - after Greenville really had it going for awhile, they literally tried to give the game back to Maryville.  I was VERY disappointed when MU got the ball out of bounds with 25 seconds left  in a tie game, and no time out taken to set things up for a last shot  -  none of the kids on the floor except Aaron Steinke  had been in that situation before  -  instead they plunged ahead, turn it over for the last second layup.   Greenville had so much more quickness than MU  -  but turnovers and missed layups let MU comeback  -  As I've said, Gville's inside game is just about nil - don't know how they'll overcome that unless they take much better care of the ball.  They are very quick to the basket!!!!

Back from Virginia and checked the scoreboard to see that Westminster beat Webster 61-60 (at Westminster). Looks like we will have some real close ones throughout conference play, as witnnessed also by Greenville's 3 point win at Maryville.

Yes, it was sad to see my alma mater, Randolph-Macon lose to Guilford and Emory & Henry. For the midwesterners not familiar with the schools and conferences in that area, the 3 schools named play in the ODAC (Old Domninion Athletic Conference) which produced last year's national champ, Virginia Wesleyan. Virginia Wesleyan played the same two schools as Randolph-Macon over the weekend and won both games. Guilford has a 6' 10" junior (Ben Strong) who is outstanding, and Emory & Henry plays "the system" -- and does it very well. There were a couple of times in the game that Emory & Henry had nearly 30 point leads, but the final margin was only 8 points. The problem with "the system" as I see it, is that if you aren't hitting your shots you don't have much of a chance against a good team. But on Sunday E & H was setting the nets on fire.

Enough about the ODAC games, since most of you probably don't care. But for hopefan, I did speak to E & H coach Johnson and he remembers you.

Mac Attack  -  big writeup on Steve Hettinga in the Multiregional Area - Survival Pool room - by an old MIAA buddy of mine.

Yjak - Coach Johnson and I   -  long ago.....

Eureka beats Lincoln Christian by 4  -  I really am baffled now  -  maybe the 20+ point win by Maryville over LCC was the anomoly and LCC is MUCH better than I thought, or maybe everybody just stin...  naaaa I'm not gonna say that.

And heck, Mac only beats Prin by 11   -  not much distance separating the undefeateds from the winless in our conference.   BUT, unless the lower levels start pulling out some wins, the top 4 are going to start running away from the rest with only Webster being able to catch the that pack.

This weekend is Big for Mac + Eureka - both with two tough road games  -  conference leader all alone could well be winner of Mac -Gville Friday night.  On the other hand, there could easily be a 4 way tie for first by the end of Saturday  -  every game is big.

Eureka gets a taste of the SLIAC this weekend @WU and @WC. That's a tough two game stretch. Mac plays at GC friday nite, then has to turn around and travel to FU. The landscape may look a lot different come Monday.

FU welcomes two new members for this semester. PG Zach Dill (Bernie, Mo.) transfers in from Lindenwood and C Terrance Lovett (U City, Mo.) who joys the team after a successful first semester in the classroom. Terrance is 6'6 and has a big wing span. He is still a little rough around the edges but plays good defense and is a load on the boards. These two will help shore up FU's bench.
