Sorry...I meant to post yesterday, but ran out of time.

Eureka 73, Lincoln Christian 69

Lincoln really played well. Eureka really didn't play that poorly at all. The EC defensive pressure could have been a little better in the 1st half as LCC buried 4 out of 5 treys. I was expecting Everett to be a unapologetic gunner, but most of his shots came within the offense and he didn't try to force anything. He ended up with 14. Eureka played the final 19 minutes without A.J. Richard, which hurt EC some, but several guys came off the bench to contribute.

Interesting music before and between games. I don't think I had heard any of those songs ever before. It was kind of refreshing.

Hopefan, don't be baffled. Any SLIAC team should feel good about getting out of Lincoln with a road win this year. I don't care if it's by one point and I don't care if they lose every road game by 30 points, the Preachers will be a tough out if they keep playing like that.

Things don't get any easier for the Red Devils this weekend with games at Webster and Westminster. EC actually plays Mac and Greenville at home next week. That's the other 4 top 5 teams in the standings in a row if you're scoring at home.

Incidently, at the Greenville Maryville game, I took the time to meet Greenville's Brad Mutton - I'm a former upstate New Yorker, and had noticed that Brad had come to Greenville from Brockport, NY - when I coached @ RPI, we played @ Brockport in only the second year of the NCAA D3 tournament back in 1974 - well before Brad's time!!!!   Anyway, it was nice chatting with Brad  -  a good kid who seems very happy at Greenville and happy to be a part of the team.

uh oh   -  I hope I'm not the only one out here -

I just noticed, as many good games as there are this weekend, next Tuesday is a HUGE night in determining the first half pecking order.  The top 6 teams play each other that night:
Mac  @ EC
WC @ FU
GC @ WU

after that night, we'll really know whether we have a couple of runaways, or a logjam.

At this stage, I really think we have a 6 team race for four spots  -  I've now ruled out Blackburn and Maryville with LCC and Prin.

Wow, already pulling the Saints our of the race four games in? Interesting!  I'm hoping for a good showing from the Jungle here at Greenville on Friday night.  If you are planning on attending and you are a Panther supporter, wear your orange.  MacAttack, I'll be wearing my purple and gold of the STLCOP Eutectics...  Oops, I mean my black and orange of Greenville.  I hope to see you there wearing your Red & Blue.

Here is your game notes on the Greenville / MacMurray Series.  Just an FYI...

It seems that I had a similar post to Mac's last rant all ready to post and I decided that the sensitivity on the board is amazing and it would fall on deaf ears.  Mac, if you do read this come back at least to give scores from the games.  I am along way from the SLIAC and the conference page is too slow to update.

This page is one of the slowest to turn on the hole website.  Stop with the eliteist attitudes and "SLIAC Chat" might grow.

Hopefan,

Just so you know,  I refuse to wear orange because I cannot stand hope.  I wish Glen would change his tie.  It's had the same stains on it for the last 10 years.   Go Calvin....but only when they play Hope.

I'm sure you remember Brockport State's Dan Panaggio. He was the star of that team. He'd been a high school legend back when I was a kid growing up in upstate NY. He's now coaching the Los Angeles franchise in the new NBA developmental league after serving as an assistant at Marquette, at Indiana, and with the Portland Trailblazers. He used to helm the Quad Cities Thunder and was one of the most successful head coaches in the now-defunct CBA, as was his old man Mauro Panaggio.

I noticed that you bowed out of the '75 tourney after losing to Brockport State, and in the following year's tournament you lost to Plattsburgh State. Isn't it hard to believe now that there once was an era in which the SUNYAC was dominant in D3? Maybe baggy shorts proved to be kryptonite for that league. :D

Oh Sager  -  such memories - I did all the scouting for us  - came back from seeing Brockport telling head coach Bill Kalbaugh (his son Billy was the point guard for Bob Lanier at Bonaventure when they were unbeaten and went far in the NCAAs)  that the only way to play with Brockport was to run our already disciplined offense that much MORE disciplined -   we were absolutely stunning them for about 15 minutes - I can remember the score being about 17-6   then Brockport got on a roll and just routed us in the 2nd half.   They had BOTH Panaggios in the backcourt and size at center and power forward that just dwarfed us.  Pop Mauro Panaggio was the coach.  We had a great win over Albany State the next night.

The next year we had the same kids back -and I thought for sure we would beat Plattsburgh - we hosted, but couldn't do it at RPI because we only seated about 500  - took it across the street to Troy High which seated 2000.  Shoot, we choked, lost to Plattsburgh, then lost again the next night to RIT whom we had beaten twice in the regular season.  It was about then that the business world started looking alot better.

Greg  -  thanks very much for the thought.

Wise Mr Owl  -  as you are a Calvin fan, are you aware that the BIG game is tomorrow  -  on TV at Ozzies at Westport in St Louis @ 2:00 - or if you have Direct TV, it's on the College Sports Network  -  I'm not sure whether I'll DVR it in favor of a SLIAC game or just watch it at 2:00.

Having met most of the posters, hard to define anyone in this group as eliteist - I think that most appreciate the SLIAC for what it is - very competitivewithin the conference.

AND my final words -   DON't make the mistake I almost made  -  if you're seeing the a men's SLIAC game tonight, check the starting time!!!  At most SLIAC games tonite, the men play @ 8:00, the women play early - the rest of confernce play, the men play evening games early and the ladies get the 8:00 start.   ::)

Agreed.  AT Greenville, the Women are at 6:00pm leading up to the grudge match between MacAttack's Highanders and my Panthers.  Will MacAttack show?  Only time will tell!

Long time reader first time poster.  I am a fan of the Blue JAys from Westminster.  Figured Id chime in.  Looks like we lost one poster from Mac thats too bad. Anyway I just figured everyone else is from STL or further east on here so why not get someone for Westminster.  They have a couple of important games this weekend (as if every one werent important).  That said a win over Eureka would be big but a loss to LCC at home might be bigger on the negative side.  I wont be able to make the games due to the inclimate weather but I will try to give any stats or anything I can find out about the game!  Good luck to the SLIAC this weekend.

Where are you Pride? The score board says GC 88 MC 86

FU wins 69-52 the Griffins go 5-25 from 3's and 14-26 from the line or the score would have been bigger.
